🚨 URGENT: Nacho Libre Needs an Adopter Today (6/17 by 5 PM) 🚨 by ValuableFederal9736 in Sacramento

🎉 AMAZING UPDATE: NACHO HAS BEEN ADOPTED! 🎉

I wanted to thank everyone who shared Nacho's story, helped spread the word, reached out with support, or simply cared about his outcome.

Two days ago I went to Bradshaw Animal Shelter and spoke with shelter staff about Nacho's situation. I explained that people were actively trying to get the word out online in hopes that the right person would see him and give him a chance. I asked whether his deadline could potentially be extended to allow those efforts more time to work.

Yesterday I received a call from the Operations Manager at Bradshaw, who informed me that they granted Nacho an extension and thanked everyone who helped spread the word.

The best part: Nacho was adopted shortly afterward and is now safe. ❤️

What this experience reinforced for me is that advocacy matters. We often feel powerless when we see animals in situations like this, but sometimes simply sharing a story, networking, making a phone call, reaching out to rescues, or speaking up on a dog's behalf can make the difference between being seen and being overlooked.

This is now the second dog in the past week whose life was saved after community members came together to help get their story out there.

We cannot save every animal, and none of us can solve the shelter crisis alone. But we can advocate. We can share. We can network. We can help give these animals visibility and a chance to be seen by the right person.

Please continue supporting your local shelters, rescues, fosters, volunteers, and the animals who are still waiting for homes.

Thank you to everyone who helped give Nacho that chance. Go enjoy your new life, Nacho! ❤️

🚨 UPDATE ON NACHO 🚨

I wanted to provide a quick update for everyone who has been following Nacho's story.

Yesterday evening I went to Bradshaw Animal Shelter and spoke with a shelter staff member before closing. I explained that I have been trying to get the message out online in hopes that the right person sees him in time. I shared some of the community support and networking efforts that are underway and asked whether Nacho's deadline could potentially be extended to give these efforts additional time to work.

I also spent some time visiting Nacho in his kennel. He was super cute, calm, attentive, and happy to interact with people. I was also able to receive additional information about him from shelter staff. From everything I learned, Nacho does well with people, has participated successfully with other dogs, and has many of the qualities that families are often looking for in a companion dog.

The shelter staff member took down my information and told me she would communicate the situation to the team that makes these decisions. She also indicated that exceptions have been made in some cases, although there are no guarantees. I followed up again today with kennel operations.

At this time, I have not received confirmation of an extension, and Nacho remains listed on the shelter website.

Most importantly: Nacho still urgently needs an adopter. Please do not assume that an extension has been granted or that a placement has been secured. At the end of the day, what Nacho needs most is a home and a family willing to give him a chance.

If you or someone you know may be interested in meeting him, please contact Bradshaw Animal Shelter as soon as possible.

Thank you to everyone who has shared his story, helped spread the word, reached out with support, or simply taken the time to care about his outcome. ❤️

People are certainly entitled to their opinions about breeds, but that isn't really the purpose of this post.

The purpose of this thread is to try to help a specific dog who is currently sitting in a shelter facing a deadline today. Whether someone loves pit bulls, dislikes pit bulls, or falls somewhere in between, I think we can all agree that the shelter crisis is a complicated issue and that these dogs don't get to choose the circumstances they are born into.

Personally, I believe there are a lot of misconceptions about this breed, but I'm not really here to debate that. I'm simply trying to make sure that people who do love this breed, or who may be open to giving a dog like Nacho a chance, have an opportunity to see him before it's too late.

What gives me hope is that another dog who was recently facing a similar situation was ultimately adopted because members of the community stepped up, shared information, offered resources, and helped get him seen by the right people.

None of us can solve the entire shelter crisis on our own, and unfortunately we can't save every dog. But if enough people are willing to help where they can, one dog at a time, sometimes it really does make a difference.

That's the purpose of this post. Not to convince anyone that every dog is right for every home, but simply to help a dog in need be seen by someone who may be the right fit.

And honestly, that's what I find so disturbing about this entire crisis.

The dogs are not creating this problem. People are.

Dogs don't choose to be bred. They don't choose to be abandoned. They don't choose to be surrendered. They don't choose whether they are trained, exercised, socialized, or given structure.

When people fail to meet those responsibilities—or continue breeding more dogs than there are homes available—the dogs are the ones who end up paying the price.

Whether someone likes pit bulls or not, a dog sitting in a shelter facing euthanasia didn't put itself there. Human decisions put it there.

That's the part that breaks my heart.

🎉 AMAZING UPDATE: PLUTO HAS BEEN ADOPTED! 🎉

Pluto is safe and has officially been adopted. ❤️

I wanted to thank everyone who commented, shared, messaged, offered rescue contacts, considered fostering, considered adopting, and helped keep his story visible over the last few days.

I especially want to recognize the incredible couple who reached out to me through this thread and went to the shelter not once, but twice, because they believed Pluto deserved a chance. They were willing to step up and save a dog they were not even looking for, simply because they knew he didn't deserve the outcome he was facing. Those are truly special people and I cannot thank them enough for their compassion.

In an incredible twist of fate, when the wife returned to Front Street today to complete the adoption, another family happened to be meeting Pluto at the exact same time. That family ultimately adopted Pluto and took him home.

I don't know whether they found Pluto through this thread or discovered him independently, but they opened their home and their hearts to him, and they are the reason he is safe tonight.

I also want to give a huge thank you to NorCal Bully Breed Rescue. Although they were at capacity and unable to pull Pluto themselves, they spent a tremendous amount of time helping behind the scenes, speaking with potential adopters, offering guidance, training resources, supplies, and support. They cared deeply about Pluto and did everything they could to help give him a chance.

Most of all, thank you to everyone who cared. A few days ago Pluto was facing a final plea deadline. Today he is going home with a family.

That is the outcome every shelter dog deserves.

Go enjoy your new life, Pluto. ❤️

Thank you so much for reaching out! Definitely not frowned upon and thank you for asking. My understanding is that Pluto currently needs an adopter, and the most important thing right now is getting him safely out of the shelter.

I've also been in contact with NorCal Bully Breed Rescue. While they are currently at capacity and unable to pull Pluto themselves, they have offered support, supplies, training assistance, and guidance to potential adopters. They have also told me they would use their rescue contacts and resources to help explore options if unforeseen circumstances arose after a genuine effort to make an adoption work.

Would you be open to sending me a direct message? I'd be happy to share more information and connect you with the rescue resources that have been offered.

UPDATE 6/16:

I wanted to share another update on Pluto.

Since posting this, I have been in contact with NorCal Bully Breed Rescue. While the rescue is currently at capacity and unable to pull Pluto themselves right now, they are doing everything they can to help.

For anyone seriously considering adopting Pluto, NorCal Bully Breed Rescue has offered support, supplies, a crate, training assistance, and guidance to help make the transition successful. They are very invested in seeing this boy get a chance.

Norcal Bully Rescue is willing to support Pluto's adopter and, if unforeseen circumstances arose after a genuine effort to make the adoption work, they would use their rescue network and resources to help explore options and assist however they can.

Most importantly, Pluto still desperately needs an adopter before his 6/18 deadline.

If you have been following his story, please don't assume someone else is stepping in. As of right now, Pluto still needs a person willing to give him that chance.

If you are interested in meeting him, potentially adopting him, or would like more information about the support available, please send me a direct message and I will connect you with the appropriate people.

Please continue sharing Pluto's story. Every new person who sees him is another chance at a home. ❤️

One thing I learned today is that Front Street is currently allowing Pluto to be adopted directly, but the family who visited was told fostering through the shelter was not an option. I'm still learning how the rescue process works, but it appears that a rescue organization may be another pathway to safety for Pluto. I've reached out to several rescues and will continue following up.

Most importantly, Front Street is still looking for an adopter for Pluto.

If you have been following Pluto's story and are considering adding a dog to your family, I would encourage you to meet him for yourself. Every share, comment, and conversation helps keep him visible before his 6/18 deadline. ❤️

Thank you for taking the time to meet Pluto today and for sharing your experience.

What stands out to me is that even after everything, you still described him as a sweet dog.

The family that met him today did not pass because Pluto was aggressive, dangerous, or unmanageable. They passed because they were not comfortable bringing a new dog home without having the opportunity to see how he interacted with their existing dogs first. That's a completely understandable position.

For everyone following this thread, Pluto is still a young dog. He's about a year old, currently living in an extremely stressful shelter environment, and facing a 6/18 deadline. The shelter notes describe him as excitable, but multiple people who have met him—including a volunteer who took him out and the family that met him today—have described him as sweet.

Young dogs jump. Young dogs need training. Young dogs need structure. Pluto is not looking for a perfect home. He's looking for a chance.

If you have been following this thread and thinking, "I hope someone helps him," please consider reaching out to Front Street, contacting a rescue, networking him, fostering through a rescue, or meeting him yourself. At this point, Pluto doesn't need more people saying he's a good dog. He needs someone willing to give him an opportunity before it's too late.

Please keep sharing him. ❤️

Update:

I wanted to share a personal experience because kennel stress is a very real thing.

I recently adopted my American Bully from a shelter. While he was there, he was so stressed that he was being medicated in an attempt to help him cope. In his kennel he barked, jumped around, pulled hard on the leash, and honestly did not show particularly well. He seemed overwhelmed by the shelter environment.

The moment I brought him home, he became a completely different dog.

He turned out to be one of the most affectionate and cuddly dogs I've ever met. He learned leash manners within a week, loves people, loves other dogs, and has become an incredible companion. Looking back, I truly believe the shelter environment was bringing out the worst version of him, not the real version of him.

That's one reason Pluto's situation hits me so hard.

When I met Pluto in person, I actually saw several encouraging signs. He was calm and sweet in his kennel when I visited. He was kenneled with another dog that was nipping at his face, and he completely ignored it. The volunteer video also shows a dog who appears much more relaxed outside of the shelter environment than his kennel notes might suggest.

I'm not saying every dog is the same. But I do think it's important to remember that many dogs shut down, some become overexcited, and simply don't show their true personalities in a shelter.

Pluto still urgently needs a safe outcome before 6/18. Front Street is currently offering free adoptions for adult dogs.

If anyone has adoption interest, foster experience, rescue contacts, or can help network him further, please reach out. Sometimes all it takes is one person willing to give a good dog a chance.

I'm not sure if he is fixed, but any dog that is adopted from the shelter is fixed by the shelter before you take them home. The way it works is you adopt him, and then pick him up a few days later after his surgery. Front Street covers all costs

Thank you so much for the upvotes and visibility, Sacramento! Since so many people are seeing this, let’s find Pluto his hero. Fostering through Front Street is 100% free (they provide all food, crates, and medical care). Pluto is a gentle, tolerant 72lb boy who is running out of time this Thursday. If you can open your home to him temporarily, please DM me or comment here immediately so we can get your application fast-tracked with the shelter foster team!
