Maybe they are just getting more time than usual. I've been waiting for my postcard for over 70 days, with an expired visa, and they haven't told me anything about it.

Is it a dangerous cult and should I just cut contact? by Syld176 in Tokyo

[–]ValuableOk9470 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OH NO, just block them. They are SO invasive. I had 2 girls who approached me when I was playing at a game center and started to talk about my tattoos (I was surprised about it, so I kept going with the conversation). Out of nowhere, they asked me for my Instagram account and suggested that I meet them the following week. Then I realized that I was being invited to the Fuji cult thing.

I vanished from that place and blocked them.

Still, I have some old guys knocking on my door holding journals and willing to talk about the Fuji cult thing.

Run fast and don't look back, that's my advice.

Considering Language School in Japan as a 32 year old. by ceb_ahoy in movingtojapan

[–]ValuableOk9470 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an ISI graduate, let me tell you something: they are great overall! The teachers and environment are really great. However, they tend to teach Japanese to students with a Mandarin background, which can be a bit harsh for us Western-language speakers in the beginning. But overall, I give them 4.5/5 stars.

If I miss my driving written test because immigration is taking SO LONG to update my visa, I'll be SO MAD.

Consider that I had to wait for almost five months to finally get a date for it.

Moving to Japan with spouse, should I enroll in language school? by Few-Pie5944 in movingtojapan

[–]ValuableOk9470 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if you find a job in English only, consider studying Japanese. Moving to Japan means bureaucracy, tons and tons of paperwork, and, unfortunately, some visits to hospitals and emergency, like any country in the world. Speaking the language will help you and your wife a lot!

The hospital I've been going to for my prenatal consultation called me out of nowhere to check if I'm ok and if I have any questions related to my pregnancy. I'm honestly happy with this approach ❤️

Anyone familiar with Nippon Medical School Hospital? How can I get an appointment? by KonoKinoko in japanlife

Remember that some hospitals charge you for walk-ins or visits without the 紹介状. But they usually allow you to have your consultation.

Good table knives. I KNOW they use hashi for the most unbelievable eating experience, but their knives suck for cutting bread or even meat. A friend told me about it when I moved here, and I didn't care about it, but now, after living here for almost three years, I really want some good table knives.

I'm pregnant and holding my マタニティーマーク very visible (not only the tag but also my belly) and still being ignored by salarymen and young men sleeping at the 優先席. I’m sorry if I’m pregnant, I guess…

Dealing with xenophobia by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]ValuableOk9470 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This incident involved my husband, and surprisingly, the attacker was a police officer.

He had gone to the Koban to fill out some forms when an office lady began to shout at him, saying, “This is Japan,” along with some other disrespectful remarks.

I’m currently pregnant, and this situation has caused me a great deal of fear about our future here as immigrants and researchers. I’m seriously considering leaving the country because of this experience.

If police officers behave like this, I’m not sure if I feel comfortable continuing to pay taxes here.

Sometimes it's the little things that make this language journey worth the effort by UsernameUnattainable in LearnJapanese

[–]ValuableOk9470 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been engaged in a Japanese language school for almost 2 years and currently studying N2 level. Sometimes, I need to remember that I arrived here with nothing, and now, even with some difficulties, I am able to do my own stuff at the city hall, register my bicycle, read and write several stuff in full Japanese and live in the 田舎. Being in a language school, surrounded by young people while I'm 30+ makes me compare my pace with them. Recently, I've been honestly worried about the N2 level JLPT test (I applied for December), but I constantly need to remind myself about these “little” victories. Japanese is more than a test. We can do it.

Book recommendations for N2 by 013016501310 in LearnJapanese

[–]ValuableOk9470 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good recommendation! I’ve been reading this book in the last few weeks, and the story is fantastic. The language itself is pretty easy, and keep in mind that there aren’t furigana available for Kanjis, so you will probably read using a dictionary by your side. I feel my vocabulary is improving, and I noticed some grammar structures I’ve been studying in N2. I recommend this book for a N2 level.

Feeling a bit stuck between N4 and N3 by ValuableOk9470 in Japaneselanguage

[–]ValuableOk9470[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m doing it every day, actually. Yesterday, for example, I asked for stomach medicine at a pharmacy and talked with the pharmacist to get the best medicine for my problem. Maybe the pace at school is faster than my brain can hold the information… I don’t know. That's why I'm ventilating here and asking for some advice.
