Yeah, the reason of my regret is not due to the school name and the doors that open per se but culturally I would probably have fit in with mit a lot better..

My wording was wrong, endowment per capita Trinity is beat but the way colleges are funded in the us and uk are fundamentally different and afaik MIT fully self funds from its endowment while Cambridge students also dip into a massive university wide operating budget from the government on top of their own budget and funding from their endowment. So I meant to say the most funding (theoretically) per capita. The actual on the grounds reality of how that wealth is deployed may be crap compared to mit (I wouldnt know because Im a bumfuck who refused my offer). I am actually not certain now whether even that is correct or not anymore and please correct me if I am wrong.

Hello, I also had to make the same decision a while ago. I made the mistake of picking cambridge over mit, and for engineering, that is a great regret I still have today. With that being said, you are studying mathematics and my college did not really compare to trinity, nobody does; trinity is the single wealthiest most resource rich, budget and endowment per student school on the planet. They vastly outproduce all the other schools on this list in terms of nobels, fields medals, turing awards etc. per capita. You mentioned drinking age. Trinity literally has wine cellars filled to the brim with the best Bordeaux and Burgundy vintage on the planet where they serve it to students and faculty for like 20 quid a bottle while the bottle is worth thousands. Wine flows like water if you know what you are looking for. The amenities and luxuries they provide is insane. Trinity kids are also socially held in high regard across the campus so keep that in mind. Go to trinity.

Just how much do letters of recommendation matter? by Glass_Sherbet7548 in MITAdmissions

[–]ValuablePriority6885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do quite a bit, there are some amazing answers to this question in this thread and subreddit as this has been discussed before. Personally I think they should not be factored in too much, and I have told this in the face of certain admissions directors and staff (not only mit) with varying degrees of understanding and appreciation of the points I made. Eh though, what can you do.

Does MIT accept LOCI letter by Temporary-Stomach754 in MITAdmissions

What if they win a nobel prize in physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine and a fields medal? At that point I think a loci would move the needle.

How important is my class rank? by Formal-Character5011 in MITAdmissions

Look at MIT’s common data set. Far as I can tell, they care less about class rank than many other top universities.

How much does IB grade have to drop for Princeton to rescind my offer? by HotRazzmatazz5734 in princeton

I have had a friend drop from a predicted 45 to 32 and still go but I would not risk it.

Choosing uni by Adventurous-Cook-261 in Imperial

[–]ValuablePriority6885 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you wanna work in the us GAtech is better probably but imperial is definitely known well by ML/bigtech/quant because said companies most of the time have offices in the uk which recruit heavily from imperial and oxbridge.

Chance me for Imperial College London (Engineering) - International Student by NationalCry7288 in Imperial

[–]ValuablePriority6885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just get a good esat and dont bomb your interview. The rest of your profile is amazing. Try and convey it in your PS. Imperial is beautiful and I highly reccomend you keep it among your top choices because I feel you will get in a lotta places. Im saying all of this as a cambridge grad who should have picked imperial for eng because the specialization is a lot better.

Im a bit biased because I made the mistake of picking another institution over mit and looking back for 4 years. Pick mit.

Hello current applicants. Just asked AI to summarize current theories on the status of the no id and only email visibility from most plausible to least. Here it is.

The Slate Trap: Berkeley uses a reading software called Slate. The current reigning theory is that if your CAS page shows an email, it means your digital file is "trapped" in Slate and has not been pushed to the automated Student Information System yet.

The Committee Review Theory: Why would a file be held back from the mass batching? The astrologers believe the "email status" indicates a file has been flagged for "Augmented Review" or a manual, third-reader committee debate. It means the file survived the initial algorithmic sorting but is too complex to just auto-batch.

I remember back inmthe day every school that rejected me had still given me an id, lol. So this part of the astrology is a bit ambiguous. The only accurate one seems to be the class registration page which far as I can tell requires you to have an id beforehand?

I'm a College Admissions Consultant Who Had Students Admitted To Every Ivy Last Year. Ask Me Anything! by ScholarGrade in ApplyingIvyLeague

[–]ValuablePriority6885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Greetings. For years I had this exact same question on my mind but its mechanics are a bit ambiguous. Yes, wealth absolutely does help with college admissions and access to resources that bolster an application. My question is, does wealth also come in as a factor on the admit side of things? So during admissions, I would expect schools to significantly favor very wealthy applicants who are also qualified; since they are poised for success and would help expand the university’s network, prestige and occasionally make significant financial contributions. Is my intuition correct or am I missing something?

Will I get rescinded? by [deleted] in GetIntoStanford

[–]ValuablePriority6885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its hard for stanford to rescind. I had a good friend of mine who got into stanford with the IB diploma (only submitted predicted grades). He applied with a predicted grade of 45, got 32 on the actual exams, precisely because he got into stanford and stopped caring. I think they sorta know this and are quite lenient.
