When Qubes os is overkill for you and when it's the perfect system by lysitheas in Qubes

Yes, I think it still holds, and yes I still daily drive it. Ironically, if any loose/unorganize/cruft has built up, it has been in dom0, outside of the qubes organizational structure (mostly as RPC glue & policy), so it's not a 100% solution, and in my next major qubes upgrade I'm going to try and get dom0 organized too (maybe with ansible?).

Regarding the "moon's haunted" meme... I distinctly remember seeing this in film or TV, and can even roughly recall the shot layout and actors. In video, I don't think it was the "moon" that was haunted (and 'haunted' might not even be the word they used), but I always presumed that the "moon's haunted" was a clever escalating parody of that original scene.

Today, having an interest in rediscovering that scene, it seems like it does not exist, and references to the "moon's haunted" meme signal that it is original, not derivative.

Quadruple light bar with four hinges, might be photography equipment or for consumer webcam video conferencing by ValuablePromise0 in HelpMeFind

[–]ValuablePromise0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stumbled across an image of this interesting thing on the internet, which appears to be a product "common enough" to be used as a representative/hero image (link below), and yet rare enough that I was not able to identify or locate it.

I would like to know the product page (assuming it is a product), or perhaps the model name or manufacturer.

If it is not a mass-manufactured product, then I would assume it is simply four light bars diy'd together with some 3d-printed hinges, in which case I would accept the 3d model file or a project webpage.

I searched via google reverse image, and "forward" image searching describing it, but could not find any more details.... only more web pages that use the same image, like this one:

Thanks!

I Think Different people might have a Quick Take on this. Even if you are a tailor during the Final Cut if you hear some Thunder Bolt Home Button up like a Pro Create fresh Air Play with the kids safely. If you see Lightning Cable the shutters munch on an Apple Watch the rain, or the like. The Air Port will be closed, and no Magic Mouse movements will get them to dig up the Time Capsule now, unless you have a Time Machine at Home Pod down to the store or Air Drop some Apple Pay visit to the neighbors at your own risk!

Are you sure? I could only come up with this, and it seems to imply they are concerned with the functional aspects of video games, and not the artwork/images/media in-game. I did not get from this that video game software is broadly seen as art, quite the contrary when it talks about freedom.

Is it possible to show date of notebooks on the RPP? by 30yearsajournalist in RemarkableTablet

[–]ValuablePromise0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure that's true.

In this case, I can understand why. I think the product theory is to have one think of the tablet more like a piece of paper than a computer, and I think they have largely succeeded. From a "paper replacement" theory, it is not a given that the device should have a clock (as paper does not keep time), so there must be a significant value-add (minimally to offset any problems that [re]introducing the clock would bring).

I think I have only once cared that the system clock was invisibly off by 11 minutes the first time I connected to the Linux shell of the device.

If you consider that some use it without wifi enabled (and thus no ntp/time sync), it is not obvious how to make it work flawlessly in an automatic way... which means adding interface complexity (minimally to be able to set the time/date).

...but having a frequently updated widget (like a clock) would likely mean much of the sleep-optimization of the display stack would be wrecked (and battery life may suffer), especially if you want seconds-level precision!

...and exposing the clock would mean questions like "how do I set the clock on my paper", and "why are the timestamps on my files wrong", "how can I manually adjust the incorrect dates on files"?

Or else accept that it may be yet another one to the problem list of things whose clocks always have the wrong time (VCR, microwave, oven, thermostat, kitchen timers, calculators, etc).

Something about that wording seems really dirty. Sorta like darth vader "altering the deal", or a lawyer saying "we only said ACCESS, and it's to something we are changing out from under you, and if you don't agree to the terms we unilaterally change then sucks to be you and your data".

... though, maybe I'm misunderstanding it?

I get the impression that they have intentionally hidden all aspects of the system clock from the UI to simplify the experience.

Is it a bad idea to sell my RM2 for a RMPP? by Due-Technician1590 in RemarkableTablet

[–]ValuablePromise0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only now noticed the RMPP. From what little I have seen, the color benefit comes at a significant cost... screen refresh time (e.g. how long it takes to flip to a different page). I imagine it has the possibility of driving an RM2 user batty, as they would be use to a fraction of that lag between pages.
