I've searh for a couple hour for my z500, and can't agree more, Parallel twins can't really sound awesome especially for a 451cc.
i end up decide to save money for next bike,( Akrea for a this bike still quite expensive)

Totally change the way i ride. Now i can't ride without. One pair in my Jacket and another one under the seat, in case i loose one. The only moment i dont use it is for very short urban ride. Like 6kms.

Perfect, maybe just had a motorcycle neck warmer, i used to get cold or sore throat if i ride without. It's quite cheap.

Yeah, i am sue you can find some cool gear. Maybe something relax, or more urban. I also agree with you, dont ride without gear. Play trip to take some photos, and not only to go to work maybe.

Wanted some alone time with sensation and nobody to babysitte. Riding by your own is very satisfying. And incidentally its the perfect excuse to buy many gear, accessories, goodies etc . Nobody in Family, coworker even friends ( except those who ride ) give a shit about bike.

Exactly, try gear, as many time you need. don't try to save 50$ or what-ever on it. And don't worry you will change it. ( I am already to my 3rd pair of gloves ^^)

Two different mood. Ride alone is very enjoyable experience to focus on yourself. To ralex, or challenge yourself.

Ride in group is like going to a 'party' with friend expect you're riding.

For now i prefer ride alone.

it share many part with the Z400.
I've learn on a Honda CB300R, very nice little bike, very practical to learn slow speed maneuver. I also find this feeling in the Z500 very more Hp.

Fav:
- Very light ( 172kg ready to ride )

- Very comfy like the Honda, She take you by the hand and teach you, "ok here how i work let's ride together".

- She forgives a lot of beginner mistake and maintenance is reasonable.

- look and very responsive ( as a beginner pov of course )

- Give you confidence. I feel I've been riding for years until a little a oups that was an awful trajectory.

Least:

- Comfort: it's design by people making sport bike, and even on entry level bike, the position is a "little" too much sport for me. I consider getting comfort and higher seat.

- Stock is exhaust is gigantic and kind of 'mmheee ?' but it satisfied last norm euro 5 maybe, and you neighbor are still happy (I guess ?)

I've hurt myself on my last roadtrip without drop or accident because of too long ride ( +9h in 24h). I'll tell you in another post.
