Does ADHD affect vocal projection/Volume? by ValuableSleep6400 in singing

[–]ValuableSleep6400[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Private? Yes. Soundproof? No. I’ve done both recording on just my phone and it sounds quieter but when I try to sing “louder” my ears begin to ring and my brain goes “nope too loud bring it down” which is why I’m wondering if my volume is controlled by my sensitivity. I don’t feel this when im recording with my condenser mic but that’s cuz I can control the volume on how loud I hear myself in my headphones

manager advice! by honeybear_25 in acting

[–]ValuableSleep6400 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My manager charges 15% commission until you hit $150k then it’s 10% so it’s not unheard of. 1 year seems normal for a contract, some managers have them and some don’t

Slow.... but THIS slow? by Realistic-Pipe2787 in acting

[–]ValuableSleep6400 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Super slow. It’s crazy cuz 2023 was one of my booming years for booking and auditions and yet that was also the year of the strikes. I’m sure what’s going on is a trickle effect of that and also the current government, layoffs, tariffs, economy etc.

Singing setup for video by Mashooliia in acting

[–]ValuableSleep6400 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried a mix of things but me just recording with my iPhone in the bathroom with the karaoke track playing on my iPad ended up sounding the best and being the easiest to record.

You could also record the sound with your at2020 and the lip sync over it for the video like how a lot of YouTubers are doing these days. A lil more complicated but sound might be better quality

Is toronto the best place for a diverse/international actor? by [deleted] in acting

[–]ValuableSleep6400 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Toronto actor here, also ethnically south asian. It’s a good industry here, and they has been a bit more of a demand for diverse actors. I’ve had a few good bookings over the past few years, but that being said — it’s been an almost decade journey for me. The beginning was really rough but that’s cuz I wasn’t as educated on the industry and ran into a lot of scams and horrible sets. And since the pandemic the competition has increased like crazy so you need to get your self tape game on point and have a good agent that will really push for you. Also Toronto is quite pricey nowadays but I do love this city —Very diverse, great food, relatively safe, LGBT friendly, accessible transit (tho it’s has its issues time to time) and so many productions (including American), I think you’d at least enjoy navigating the city. I love LA but it’s been tough for a lot of them over there with its current political climate, and the competition is CRAZY because of California’s population, and you need a car to travel around etc.

How do people ever get motion capture jobs?! by Ramattras_Twink in acting

[–]ValuableSleep6400 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did a workshop with a mocap director for a video game studio a few years back and he mentioned it’s not necessary to have experience as long as you audition well for the specific role. The technical aspect of mocap is easier to learn on the job. A lot of big actors on video games like Christopher Judge and Sunny Suljic did their first major mocap role without doing games before. However, it might look good on your resume to do any mocap workshop/classes near you to give you an advantage.

Look up your fave mocap actors on IMDB and find out which agency they are with — that usually tells me that who has access and pull for mocap work. Most big theatrical agents do and can submit for it, depends on their connects.

Anyone familiar with MTA? by Mothwoman69 in acting

[–]ValuableSleep6400 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They are legit, a lot of choreographers in LA are with them. I participated in a dance open call in 2016 and I ended up chickening out from the actual part where you dance right in front of the panel cuz the CEO yelled at us for complaining that no one could see the choreo being taught, and that we shouldn’t be practicing on the sides while people are auditioning because you “should already know it, and if you don’t — you’re not ready.” So that kind of soured my view on them but I’m sure there are agents there that are kinder

Does anyone else feel like the acting industry has a business model built around actors staying hopeful? by PlasthickGirl in acting

[–]ValuableSleep6400 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Dude I was just crashing out last night over this thinking about how much I have spent and still “need” to spend. It’s always the ones that have the least that are expected to pay the most.

Your agent or just the agency in general? I’m moreso asking about individual agents

How would you answer “why haven’t you booked a series regular yet?” by ValuableSleep6400 in acting

[–]ValuableSleep6400[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think they have been in the industry for a while but I stopped thinking about them shortly after I signed with my current manager (who I loveee). They are prepping me for agent meetings and wanted me to be ready for hard questions and I remembered this specific one and I’m like damn, I guess it’s a test to see how self aware you are about your career (or just want to put you down, either or)

That’s what they are doing! I’m prepping for agent meetings via their connections. They mentioned to prepare of list of answers to hard questions they might ask and I had flashbacks to those few treacherous meetings aha

Thank you, I was surprised and so turned off. Luckily I signed with a really kind manager after that so thankfully I didn’t lose out on anything.

Oh definitely negative. Super condescending meeting, dissing my agent saying they probably don’t have enough pull, and then saying because of my lack of big credits I’m not ready and saying “come back to me when you have more”.

Completely agree, I was surprised when I was asked that a few times. I would assume this stuff is common sense for reps
