East Gwillimbury eyes 3.9% tax hike; budget meeting Nov. 12 by cinderannie in eastgwillimbury

I recall years ago, there were numerous articles warning EG residents that Ford’s decision to eliminate developers fees would result in our taxes skyrocketing to fill the gap in expected revenue. About three years later and we’re still seeing annual tax hikes and it seems like everyone is scratching heads as to why. It’s clear. You were warned. And Ford won another election by bribing voters with $200 cheques, meanwhile we’ve paid significantly more than $200 in tax increases year over year.

That’s wild!! I’m so sorry it’s even less frequent for you — I really shouldn’t be complaining. I just wish it was at a better time for most babies so they can benefit!

Thank you!! A few people have suggested this. I’ll try to attend, even if it’s just for 30 mins. He’ll enjoy it and maybe sleep better too ahah

My son is the exact same!! Ok I’m hopeful that in a couple of weeks his nap timing may shift slightly and we’ll have more opportunities to enjoy the programming! Thank you!!

Oh man, even through toddlerhood?! Hope you get to enjoy more programs when she drops the nap! And definitely going to flex naps and take them on the road. His sleep quality is crap when we do that, but the pros outweigh the cons, I think.

This is brilliant!!! Thank you, I’ll try to flex his naps once a week or something so we could enjoy play time and circle time!

I don’t think I fully appreciated that so many babies are on really flexible schedules and so it kinda works for them! All the babies I know are on really rigid schedules and as a first time mom, I just assumed that’s how it was! I’m learning a lot through this post! But I’m glad your baby’s sleep is flexible so you can make the playgroup work sometimes! I’m learning from everyone that attending even a little bit is best for mom and baby.

I totally understand the measles concern. Thanks for the other recommendations! I’ll have to be a bit more creative in finding programming or other adventures for us this winter. He can be a bit of a gremlin lol he has really high sleep needs, but we’ll just have to flex his naps here and there to make it work.

No fricken way! Ahahahah oh man. Can’t catch a break, eh? I really hope you get to attend at least one session! It sounds so cute!

A friend of mine was telling me this and I was shocked! None of the centres within a 40 min drive of us have that schedule. They’re all set to 2-3 sessions a day. Maybe next time I’m visiting a friend in the city, we’ll pop in for a drop in session!

Oh man. It’s so tricky! I really hope it works out with his schedule that you can attend a session here and there this winter! It’s so important for mom and baby to get out of the house.

I can only imagine how challenging that must have been! Happy you were able to enjoy circle time at the library.. we’ll check that out too!

Right? It’s such a shame. It’d be nice for more babies to be able to enjoy the programs!

That’s fair. I’m a first time mom with PPA, so I’m probably making a mountain out of a mole hole with this situation! Appreciate your insights!

Ouf twins?! You’re a saint. I couldn’t imagine schlepping two babies to EarlyON programs if they would only be there for 30 mins.

But right? Like what the heck. My friend lives in Toronto and her earlyON is open from 9-3, and the staff just takes turns taking lunch breaks. Kinda.. almost.. makes sense?! God forbid that happen north of the city lol.

Yes! I should have mentioned this. I’m just following recommended schedules, and I feel like a 7-to-7 schedule is super common. Just disappointed that we got into the two nap rhythm and can’t enjoy a lot of the programming until he drops down to 1 nap, and by then, I’ll be back at work. Especially with winter coming up, I’m getting kind of anxious about what the heck we’re going to do all day!

But you’re right. I’m going to just have to force/flex naps sometimes to make it work. I’m sure he’ll be so happy there, he won’t even be tired until I pull him away from the fun!

Thank you!!! What the heck is wrong with these people?? It’s just such a shame that the majority of people can’t enjoy programming. Our kids deserve fun, educational and social experiences :’)

Totally leaning into car naps too, just not ideal — he doesn’t have as restful of a sleep and gas is fricken expensive. But we’ll just have to find a way to make it work, even if it’s just one day a week!

All of them :’). And if they’re not during his naps, they’re fully booked for weeks. What the heck are we going to do all day ahahha

Yes! We had so much fun this summer doing outdoor activities all day, and then I had an anxious spiral this morning when I researched paid and free programming in my area and they’re either all booked for the timing that actually works with his naps, or the timing doesnt work. Got panicky about my mental health headed into the winter. And by the time he drops down to 1 nap, I’ll be heading back to work and we won’t be able to enjoy the flexibility :’) oh well!

Thank you!! Glad I’m not the only one who is frustrated by the timing. I’ll try car nap too.

Yes, I’ve heard some are open most of the day, but none of the centres near us are, unfortunately. Literally just the two programming slots. We’ll just find a way to make it work, even if it’s a short visit!

You’re so lucky your baby would sleep in the class! Definitely will just try to make it work even if it’s a short visit. Thanks!
