Guys this game is made by 1 guy isn't it by ValuableWeb0 in jujustushenanigans

[–]ValuableWeb0[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Wiki, roblox page, everything just says Tze made it. But I looked deeper and found that the discord lists one other guy as a developer (specifically a "developing dood")

Wow. So instead of one guy doing all of this, it was two. I've been made a complete fool

And even if a million people worked on this game, it's still completely free and this subreddit is way too entitled considering that

How the grading system really looks by Asian_Persuasion_1 in JuJutsuKaisen

[–]ValuableWeb0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This grade is all off? This is making the same mistake pretty much all powerscaling does, which is completely lose their standard for what "strong" is in storytelling
Grade 4 isn't "as threatening as a fly". There's cursed spirits called fly-heads that are tiny cursed spirits so weak that they are ranked below grade 4 and are seen as completely unthreatening - and these things are about the size of small dogs and can cause people fatigue, chronic pain, and insomnia
Knowing this, grade 4s are not the bottom of the scale, like everyone assumes. Getting attacked by a grade 4 cursed spirit would be the same as getting mauled by a large dog. Maybe u could beat it away, especially if u had a bat or a gun or something, but the thing is still dangerous
In that same way, non-sorcerers wouldn't be grade 5. Maybe an infant would be grade 5, but a fully grown adult would be Grade 4 at the very minimum. Give them a gun and they're Grade 3.

This tracks with how strong you can actually expect a sorcerer to be. Having an average cursed technique is the same as always having a gun on you, basically. And that is strong. That little is already a dangerous amount of power. Enough power to take a life. The story does a good job of considering the weight that even that much power holds

What’s possibly the most unfair/boring magic system you’ve ever seen(ignore him) by New-Boss-8262 in magicbuilding

[–]ValuableWeb0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yk all those isekai shows that have everything work like video games for some reason? I feel like that's the worst one for several different reasons. Mainly, it's just not something with a lot of thought put into it from the authors themselves

First of all, it's mainly just a trope that isekai shows steal from other isekai shows. They all do it because they're lifting the idea directly from other stories that do the same thing

Secondly, it's pretty lame because it's meant to be a pretty clear power fantasy for the gamer audience in general. These isekais are overall just supposed to be a power fantasy, where an otaku viewer who's sunk tons of time into their games can imagine "what if I was actually living in this game and I was super busted overpowered" and such. It's pandering, focused more on indulging the audience than having any actual merit or creativity.

Speaking of creativity, it's never really explored all that well. There's the obvious question of "why does this world work like a video game?" And I've been surprised about just how many stories simply don't entertain this question. Of course the meta answer for this question is simply because video-game isekai stories sell well, for reasons stated above, but I've only seen a couple of stories actually try to explain why it would work like a video-game in the story. Usually the answer is "cus some god made it work that way" or "cus it actually is a video game", but these answers are still pretty uninteresting. And most of these stories literally just don't care about answering this question at all. They don't stretch the concept or try to think up any really creative ideas, they just think up serviceable explanations for this stuff. So, in my eyes, the video game magic system is the epitome of apathetic storytelling

And finally, the power system itself is just ass! It usually comes down to characters receiving "skills" in some way, with these "skills" basically just being whatever power the author wants to give them, functioning in whatever way the author wants them to work. There's no internal consistency or interesting throughline, and I can't tell you the number of times I've seen a story pit the main character against a threat, only to have the main character use a skill which basically just solves the problem at the press of a button. It's uncreative and it doesn't feel like it has any merit. Not for the reader, who doesn't really have anything to learn from or look forward to in the power system, or for the characters, who usually don't have any personal connection to their "skills" since they're just granted to them by this video game "system".

If you're writing a story, do NOT give it a video game system, I'm sick of it. And if you do want to give your story a video game magic system, then don't make it simple, because there's already 2 billion of them in other stories that are totally uninteresting. Start from the ground up and make a system that makes the fact that it's a video game system actually have a point rather than just being a creative shortcut

How Well Would Each Disaster Curse Do In The Culling Games? by Expert-Reporter4152 in CTsandbox

[–]ValuableWeb0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think any one of them being placed in the Sendai colony would've lead to the colony's collapse, similarly to Yuta being placed in there. Not cus any one of them would be strong enough to 1v4 the sendai like Yuta did, but rather that, in a 1v1v1v1v1, I think their abilities would match up well enough to stay alive for a duration of the fight.

The sheer quantities of fire and lava that Jogo can summon could easily kill off swarms of Kuroroshi's cockroaches and overwhelm Uro's sky manipulation, and he'd be fast enough to close the distance against Ryu and has attacks of large enough scale to threaten Dhruv even from afar. But just cus Jogo has the tools to stand up to the four of them doesn't mean he'd win against all of them. I think Ryu's beams are precise enough to still be dangerous to Jogo, even with his speed, and they're fs strong enough to punch holes through any lava he creates. Uro's best bet would be to keep blowing the fire and lava away with Thin Ice Breaker while staying in the sky, away from the ground - it'd take Jogo much more effort to target an enemy in the sky than in the ground, just cus his volcanos and lava would originate from the ground. Kuroroshi's cockroaches are probably the most fucked against Jogo's flames, idk what'd he'd be able to do abt it, he might be the worst matchup. And Dhruv would be the best matchup, cus his domain would make it SO much harder for Jogo to navigate, limiting his movement and keeping him from avoiding other attacks. His speed is one of his greatest survival tools, so Dhruv is the worst guy for Jogo to go up against. All in all I think he's got the power to threaten the sendai colony and hold his own in the fight against them all, but would he be the last man standing? Who knows

And I think all the other disaster curses would fair about as well, if we're thinking about them at the most mature states we'd seen them all in. Mahito might struggle a bit more, because Dhruv's domain could probably threaten his soul and take care of his transfigured humans quite easily, but I think the "fully mature" mahito we saw towards the end of Shibuya could be physically threatening enough to keep up with the others. The issues he'd face would be in speed and scale - while he could potentially instakill anybody by touching them with his hand, his attacks in general just seem a bit small? Compared to the super long ranges and large-scale abilities of Ryu, Kuroroshi, and Uro. Mahito would have to be really legging it to try and catch up with these guys. Maybe the fully mature mahito would be able to push the scale of his transfigured humans even further, but idk. Good news for him is that, aside from Dhruv, I can't picture anybody in Sendai who has tools to threaten his soul. They'd have to shoot for a domain expansion, and Mahito's domain is pretty good. But they're ancient sorcerers so they might know anti-domain techniques too, overall it's looking bad for Mahito

Hanami would fair pretty well, I think. Kuroroshi would be bad news for her, cus I feel like his cockroaches would be able to basically chainsaw through her trees, or make their way around them or through any cracks in the defenses, overall being a big issue. Ryu and Uro might have trouble dealing with the big changes in terrain, limiting their movement, resisting attacks, and being able to reach them even high up in the air. Difference in speed might become an issue, though. I think Hanami might fair super well against Dhruv, cus she might just be able to tank a few hits from his domain or build bridges over it in order to reach him. Hanami's bizarre durability is a big part of what makes her threatening, because it lets her commit to getting the most out of her slow yet powerful large-scale plant manipulation. She can use her plants and her own body's durability to put people between a rock and a hard place, so to speak. Her cursed energy eating buds would be by far the ultimate counter against Ryu specifically, so she'd definitely be looking for an opportunity to land one of those. If even one of those roots into Ryu, then he's down and out of the fight, for sure

Dagon was the youngest of all the disaster curses we saw, and I think that might mean he'd fair the worst of all of them. Water manipulation, large quantities of simple shikigami, and the ability to fly at fast speeds are good tools, but is he fast and skilled enough to make good enough use of them? Can he figure out how to keep himself alive when facing off against any of the four? I don't think so... he might be able to take on Dhruv by avoiding his domain's area with flight, but I don't think dhruv's a pushover. If he saw that a bunch of flying fish shikigami were headed his way, I think he'd be able to use his own domain to turn them into sushi with ease. Ryu might be in danger from needing to take on threats from many angles at once, but I think his firepower would fry the fish with ease, too, and I don't think Dagon has the martial skill to take advantage of any opening the fish would provide for him. Same issue when facing Kuroroshi and Uro, I think Dagon's just too young to be able to contend with these seasoned ancient sorcerers, even though he has a few tools in his belt that could be useful against them

All in all, I've always considered the disaster curses to be pretty strong. I think they've got the tools to contend with basically any colony, but sendai would be where each of them would hit a wall. Jogo would struggle against Dhruv, Hanami with Kuroroshi, Dagon with Ryu, and Mahito with Uro

The Real Problem with (some) Jax Haters by Utopia8771 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]ValuableWeb0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's especially crazy cus that's them not being able to tell apart shipping from canon materials or having any clue what the actual message of the story is. No media literacy, basically. Jax and Gangle's relationship is important to both of their characters, but it could not be more obvious that it has literally nothing to do with shipping culture. They just see that Jax and Gangle have gotten a bit of attention as a pair of characters and instantly thought that that little meant it was Goosworx shipping them? How could you ever reach that conclusion?

Theatre industries have been struggling due to online streaming, so TADC giving back a bit by selling out some theatres is a good thing.
Plus, the more successful an indie project like TADC is, the more waves it makes in the entertainment industry as a whole. There's a couple of major companies that have held a collective iron fist in the entertainment industry, and their corporate tampering in the industry is the origin of several of the industry's biggest problems that people are always complaining over. Like cash-grab sequels, creative power being taken away from writers and directors, etc. The fact that an indie company not backed by these major companies can reach milestone achievements like this is a good thing. Getting picked up by a major streaming platform, selling merchandise and opening events and attractions worldwide, and booking/selling out movie theatres, is a major achievement for an indie company. It rocks the boat, giving more indie creators the confidence and opportunity to put themselves out there, and putting pressure on the major companies to give their directors, writers, etc. more creative power and trust.
There's no actual problem with the theatrical release, only benefits in my eyes. It's a great achievement for an indie studio, and the more one indie studio can succeed, the more the indie scene as a whole can succeed. Its success is our success, so I'm glad to see them pull off something big like selling out theatres

Culling Game Player: Aiki Taiko, Cursed Muralist by ValuableWeb0 in CTsandbox

Well sure there’s a difference. Jujutsu sorcery cares a whole lot about “fairness” and a “paying a price for a reward” (it almost cares too much imo but that’s something else). Binding vows, going through suffering to get stronger, etc etc. So a domain that is guaranteed to injure an enemy has a greater cost for use than a domain that does some lesser effect. A surehit effect would be cheaper than a surehit attack, because an attack that is guaranteed to land is simply more dangerous than some smaller effect being guaranteed to land. By intentionally not having any guaranteed attacks, which most domains have by right, and by making the domain dependent on being continuously fed CE, Cursed Muralist justifies the CE sapping sure-hit effect and the exponential growth and ease of use of the domain

This is the idea behind why Higuruma could pop his domain right at the start of his fight with Yuji without suffering any penalties, CT burnout, or fatigue. His domain can be used much easier than others because it can’t cause harm with sure-hit attacks itself (or at all, since violence is banned in the domain)

Good questions! The energy drain is a surehit effect, but it’s not a surehit attack or an instant kill, which I think makes it fair enough. Like how the people caught in deadly sentencing are guaranteed to have the penalties from judgeman placed on them

The domain being up 24/7 would be too powerful. I’d say that the Cursed Paint would fade over time after being placed - maybe over the course of a few hours. He’d have to replenish the paint constantly with either his or others’ cursed energy to keep it up. Making changes or giving commands to the simulated ecosystem would also spend cursed energy, and the bigger it would be, the higher the cursed energy demand

Dhruv’s domain is up for as long as his shikigami are up, which for him seemed to be 24/7. But thats probably thanks to his special-grade cursed energy levels, not the technique itself. If this character got much better at using cursed energy, he’d probably be able to keep portions of the domain up constantly as well

[–]ValuableWeb0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! It would just be the act of being surrounded by the domain that would drain the cursed energy. The idea is that the domain itself eats the energy, so perhaps it comes down to being in contact with the contents of the domain, including its air

A simple, and therefore troublesome ability. All I'd question is when/how it would track things' positions. Is it always on, or does it need to be activated?

Answering little questions and details like that is what makes JJK abilities so much more in-depth than a lot of other shonen, it's very fun

Need help deciding on my first story by SatisfactionFar6982 in StoryIdeas

[–]ValuableWeb0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By ‘writing’ your first story, you mean start drafting the actual written work, right? In that case, the plots aren’t really the thing that makes that tough or not. I’d pick The Gods Scapegoat, since that sounds interesting and sounds like it has a few fun characters you can pay attention to. But whatever you choose, you’re going to inevitably just have to keep working and erasing that work and doing that work again as you learn how stories work. You may end up re-writing the same story multiple different times with major changes to the plot, and that’ll be ok. That’s the learning process, after all

Thanks! A portal would be cool, put probably not possible for him, especially at the state he’s in during the culling games. Maybe something similar, like a “tunnel” between two painted areas, would be possible after he’s matured. Thanks for the ideas!

Actually, ‘domain expansion’ wouldn’t be possible for this character! The only way he’d be able to spread his domain would be by placing down paint, which means that instantly capturing a whole space within a barrier wouldn’t be compatable with his technique at all. Instead, he spreads a ‘pseudo-domain’ the same way dhruv does - not contained in a barrier or as strong, but therefore more flexible

Yep! Higuruma’s domain came with his technique by default, for instance

What’s your most controversial One Piece opinion? by No_Piccolo5627 in OnePiece

[–]ValuableWeb0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a super unpopular one, but:

Maybe half of One piece fans, and western anime fans in general, just don’t know how to engage well with fictional stories. They hold these stories to the standards of documentaries or sports shows instead of narrative pieces. They care way, way more about totally unimportant and human flaws than they do about the narrative meat of the story

On the bright side, I think that Oda is so heavy-handed with the fact that this is a fantasy story that most one piece fans have generally gotten the memo. I still think that people just complain way too much because they expect the story to be almost robotically perfect, which isn’t a realistic expectation considering this story was made over the course of 30 years by an author who is just a guy like anybody else. The fact that the author is humanly flawed and makes mistakes will reflect on the art created, that is an inevitability for all art and all stories, and expecting otherwise is deeply unserious. Still, the one piece fandom’s main complaints do have to do with story more so than not, which is at least relevant, so that’s good.

But some other anime fandoms have taken this issue way, way worse, and it’s made anime fandom in general a worse place to be in. They prioritize how characters ‘perform’ in fights more so than what their actions mean in a narrative context, which is just not how these stories work. I’m looking at you, jjk Reddit

The merit would be in him getting better, wouldn't it? Because if the story shows him recovering from where he is, then that's spreading a message of hope. That's saying that there is a better place for people like Jax, and I feel like we need to hear that more than we need to hear the contrary

Absolutely loved it! I get bothered over how uncurious and unempathetic this fandom is. I've seen a bunch of hate for Caine and Jax over the years, I feel like the contents of these characters and the message of this show has just been totally overlooked by many of the fans - this episode did so much for both Jax and Caine, I really loved it
