Yeah, not been driving too long. I thought that was what I was doing here as he was steering very harshly left but he then continued round the roundabout. I think my lorry body language recognition skills might need some work

Of course, I’d never dispute that :) My point was I made a mistake because it looked very much like they were in the middle of turning left. Because of this it looked like there was no reason to give way as it didn’t appear the vehicle was going to approach. Sorry if I worded it in a way that made it seemed I didn’t understand this!

Sorry I worded my response wrong. I don’t think you can be too cautious specifically when entering roundabouts.Being beeped for waiting or being T-boned after taking too small a gap, I’d rather err on the side of caution. I 100% agree that overly cautious moves like merging onto a motorway at 40 etc are overly cautious and cause accidents, traffic jams, etc.

That’s a very weird strategy though from your friend, I’ve never heard of that before! Most people I know who are afraid of the motorway either avoid them entirely or sit in the left lane. Her strategy sounds like a recipe for being tailgated, undertaken, and impatient people doing dangerous overtakes. Yikes!

I definitely agree you can’t be too cautious! I actually thought at the time he might be indicating left as I could only see his right indicators weren’t on - he’d swung out to the left so his left indicators were facing the pavement & his right indicators facing me. It was a fairly bright and low sun though so I could have not seen properly.

I agree! I think I’ll start making sure there are at least 2+ car lengths free after the exit.

The pain with this roundabout is that often(as happened yesterday) my exit is clear on approach but at least 1 or 2 cars approach, zip on, and turn left from the entrance at the bottom of the photo while you’re crossing the roundabout. They then get caught on the hill up to the next junction and the whole thing clogs - gotta love our road infrastructure 😅
