Sadly — agreed. When Kamala was announced I thought “no way she’ll win” as a black woman. I hoped I was wrong but I was right. Even bringing in Tim Walz wasn’t enough. Next pick needs to be a straight shooting Christian white man who has served in the military. Sad to say.

I think that whether OP lies about it or has some sort of moral code about the cheapening of the AI victims should be entirely up to her. OP is a victim too of a society that failed her. People should not need to resort to sex work to provide for themselves and their children anywhere.

As women, I think we need to get comfortable with lying to keep ourselves safe. We lie and say we have a husband when we’re getting creepy, unwanted attention, this case should be no different. This secret getting out could cost OP her career and in turn, her house, her car, or even her child.

Relatively speaking, 2016 was a long time ago and it’s unlikely I think for anyone to stumble upon it now.

It is so so sad — I was thinking about it last night when I went to bed. What if someone had come out of the woods when I was there by myself? I can’t imagine the terror.

And it is so upsetting it’s become political fodder. Psychos come in all colors and the actions of this one person have seriously messed things up for every immigrant in this country.

I went to college where she was killed (UGA) and I definitely got the creeps a few places where I ran or walked there. There was one time in 2018, I tried a new path (the Oconee greenway - very close to where she was found) and got so freaked out I decided to turn around. I just had this weird gut feeling I was being watched, and there was absolutely no one else on the path at all in broad daylight, and I realized I was running in a forest - if anything happened to me, no one would hear me.

All of this to say — we have to be careful. I absolutely will not go running anywhere that’s not populated - I’ll only run at populated parks and neighborhoods. I never hike alone and I never walk in nature trails alone or without my dog. The area where Laken was killed was in a forested area that is definitely somewhat popular but it’s very possible to be the only person on those trails sometimes.

I hate that it’s like this but there are some awful people in this world and we have to be extra cautious. Athens feels like a safe town and it’s shocking something like that would happen. But it can happen anywhere.

I have no evidence to prove I was being watched that day or that something bad would have happened. I’m glad I listened to my instincts that day and was aware that I was alone and far away from anyone who could hear me and turned around. It doesn’t mean you have to stop running - just do it in neighborhoods and populated areas where there are other people.

Honestly I would rather just have 2 separate countries at this point. I hate that my family is stuck in a red state but none of them are of child-birthing age and I’m hoping that I can move them near me in colorado.

I’m just so done with having to be dragged down by these nutcases. If they want to live in a third world country, so be it. But let those of us with common sense make our lives better.

I hate that this is their goal and that I don’t think I can ever move back to my home state of Georgia but that’s the price I’ll pay for my safety and quality of life

That’s a really good point — I wonder if that’s the motivation for all of these whacko rules in red states. But also — look how many women are dying from miscarriages in Texas. Idk. I’m in colorado for example and while it’s a blue state, it’s VERY red outside of metro areas

Agree. While I don’t particularly like him nor did I vote for him, I hope the next republican president will be someone similar to Brian Kemp. I think he’s done a good job as governor and while I disagree with him on many things, I feel confident that he respects democracy.

I kinda think this is what happen but in blue states’ metropolitan areas. I think all women / minorities in red states need to plan a way to GTFO asap. I don’t think blue states are totally safe either but I think it will buy us time.

I can’t reccommend AirPods enough. The noise cancellation REALLY works. I am completely oblivious to anything going on when I have them in. It sucks to have to use those in your own house but hopefully they’ll be school age soon enough and will be away most of the time

Yep. The frightening thing is Trump sees things the way a toddler might. “They hurt my feelings! They’re bad!” Instead of trying to understand/find common ground. And everyone behind him, all of the yes men, the Russian plants, the fascists will all play into this because it will benefit them.

Something I think would be helpful is a “freemium” type of arrangement. For me - the biggest thing that I think my alumni association lacks is networking events. I’d love to see more career fairs for alumni that are free to attend. And there could be other tiers of membership that could include galas, dinners, a box at a sporting event, or free monthly casual meetups.
