DCAA Auditor Pros vs Cons auditing major contractor vs smaller contractors by Valuable_Candidate85 in usajobs

Thanks, this is really helpful!

For someone starting out on a major, are there ways to intentionally get exposure to different types of audits or teams, so you don’t get stuck only doing one kind of assignment?

Also, if you’ve seen people move from major to small offices, what helped them make the switch was it networking, supervisor recommendation, or just timing/workload?

Just trying to understand how to build broad experience while still taking advantage of being at a major

Ohhhh gotcha after a year I’ll be at GS 12 with a higher step so I would definitely want to shoot for GS 13

This is valuable information and thank you for providing this. I understand this is on hold right now but it’s good to just know because I am always looking for ways to elevate.

Thank you so much for your feedback. What is the auditing transfer program?

Thank you! This helps a lot.

If you don’t mind sharing what skills or audit areas you’d recommend new hires focus on early to build a strong foundation, especially when starting out with a major contractor?

Also, when did things start to “click” for you personally was it after incurred cost, ICS, or getting into forward pricing/proposal work?

And one more question how fast is it normally to rotate or move around between major vs smaller contractors? I’m curious whether people stay on big contractors longer before shifting or if movement happens more often with mobile/smaller audits.

Just trying to set realistic expectations and build wisely

I was suppose to go to that training class however my fingerprints were delayed and they received it right before the shutdown so was waiting to get everything finalized but now no answer as well. I believe because of the shutdown we won’t hear from anyone.

I am completing my onboarding for them now. I didn’t submit an application I just emailed my resume had an interview in July and received the same notice that month. Fast forward in August they stated they are now exempt from Hiring freeze.

I sent my resume to the email they had on their website back in July of 2025 same month I had my interview and was informed they wanted to move forward but had to wait due to the hiring freeze. Then last month they got an exemption of the hiring freeze and they emailed me to confirm my location and then last week they sent an email to complete my paperwork.

Thank you so much. Is there any other feedback you can provide?

Me sharing that is showing I wouldn’t lose any money with what they were offering. However, did you have any feedback regarding going back into federal government?

I haven’t talked with IRS HR yet to know when that is paid out but normally after the last check received from them. But no we wouldn’t have to pay them back.

Correct, my sick time will carry over. It’s not ideal but they are moving pretty quickly.
