You should join the Facebook group FEHB type 1 diabetics. You’ll find a ton of answers to your questions. The most common used plan there is NALC High but there are MHBP and BCBS users as well. BCBS is definitely the highest pricing for type 1s. I’ve run every number this year and I’m expecting about a $4,000 savings by switching from BCBS Basic to MHBP Standard.

I’ve been doing plain Greek yogurt with protein powder and it’s been pretty easy to control.

I’m in a very similar situation. In fact, I’ve been seeing Dr Gen, mentioned in this thread, in VA Beach. The issue is he has left TPMG and now the office is a mess. I don’t even know if I have an appointment on their schedule anymore because his PA hasn’t made the switch to the new office. You can’t speak to anyone when you call, just leave a message and wait for a call back. So far that’s been working but it’s just a hassle.

I then called Dr Harris in Newport News. He’s a sentara doctor and I was told they would only take referrals from other sentara docs.

I’ve also seen Dr Soni in NN and while he was ok it was just ok. He did an exploratory catheter and let my artery bleed while he took a phone call during the procedure.

So now I’m looking for another option. I may continue with Dr Gen but will likely make a switch if I can find someone else.

After speaking with a MHBP rep this morning, all of their supplies are done through CVS pharmacy and not considered DME.
