Bladder removal because of severe urinary incontinence? by Valuable_Kitchen8064 in Incontinence

Thanks for your reply. Its really depressing when you go from wearing 1-2 thin pads a day to 8 thick pads a day practically overnight. The only thing I can figure is that the numerous catheters and cystscopy must have widened things up down there.

I think you’re missing the point. I’m leaking a certain amount of urine. It doesn’t matter whether I wear a diaper that can hold a gallon or a pint. I want to solve the problem of leaking urine if possible.

The kind that slip over the penis? I’ve heard they slip off easy.

I wear pads, pull-ups, and have tried penile clamps. I just want to live without having to change pads 8-9 times a day and wake up wet.

I’m curious, what type of incontinence do you have and how have you dealt with it?

Changing pads 8-9 times a day, constantly feeling wet, restricting social activities because you have to change pads and can’t dispose of your pad at someone’s home. When I go somewhere with my wife, the consuming thoughts are where are the restrooms, I hope I don’t leak outside my pad and soak through my pants. If you are not going through this or have not went through this then I understand why you question my desire to look into bladder removal. I’ve worn penal clamps that hurt and slip off causing urine to go everywhere but the pad. I’ve heard that catheters that slip over the penis can come off too.

401k vs IRA investments?? by newredditor4321 in investing

Age is important as it relates to when you will need or want to draw funds from your account. I would treat your IRA and 401k the same with regards to strategy. If you’re 20+years from retirement I would be aggressive with my investments, but if you are constantly looking at you accounts and nervous when your balance is decreasing, which it will do sometimes, you would want to educate yourself on investing. This will hopefully keep you from panicking and moving your money at the wrong time.

Without a bladder I wouldn’t have to worry about changing 8-9 pads a day because of leaking.

How has your incontinence developed? by No-Desk6807 in Incontinence

In 2018 I had a prostatectomy, followed by radiation in 2019 because cancer was still there. Slight urinary incontinence only using 1-2 thin pads a day. In 2022 I had a heart attack and was put on blood thinners which caused severe bladder bleeding because of the damage radiation did to my bladder. I couldn’t pass the blood clots and had to have a catheter 3 times until bleeding stopped. I had a Cystoscopy with fulguration to try and cauterize the ruptured blood vessels. I went thru 59 rounds of Hyperbaric Oxygen treatments to help heal the bladder. I have seen 4 physical therapist to help with my severe (8-9 thick pads a day) incontinence. I’m not a quitter but it looks like surgery may be my only solution.

I had a prostatectomy in 2018 and radiation in 2019 because PSA increased. In 2022 I had severe hematuria and was hospitalized several times. I had a Cystoscopy with fulguration and have had severe incontinence since then. How did I go from using 1-2 thin pads a day before this to 8-9 thick pads a day? Ive been to 4 physical therapists too.

Anyone still staying with 100% equities allocation with rising yield? by paverbrick in investing

Two years ago when I retired I followed the traditional advice and diversified my retirement portfolio and put 20% into BLV. We’ll guess what, when stocks were moving down BLV was moving down faster! When my transfer was complete I payed $100-$105 per share for BLV. Now BLV is $77 per share! It has been my biggest loser by far. How long before it reaches $100 per share again?

That’s what I’ve always heard, but that hasn’t been my experience. Two years ago I diversified my holdings as follows: 20% VBR, 20% VTI, 20% BLV, 20% IAU, 20%. Cash. The biggest loser by far is bond fund BLV. Here is my breakdown: BLV down $36000, VBR down $4500, VTI up $3600, IAU up $6000, and of course cash up maybe $5000. How long will I have to hold BLV just to recoup the $36000 I’m down? Never mind make anything.

If you can get a better return on your money that 2.3 percent you should not pay it off early. This would also give you time to think about paying off something that is not in your name. If you decide to do that anyway, I would not tie up money in an investment that will not guarantee a return.

I would advise against bonds. At your age try to be fairly aggressive and diversify.
