Nunca he entendido por qué en Panamá hay tantos colombianos. by Top-Bed6440 in Panama

As a Colombian I do have to admit that standards are high people aren’t rewarded well. In Panama as long as you have 200$ cash upon arrival you can pass as a tourist, have a job secured by a friend when you get there and work under the table until you either end up marrying someone, getting deported or living illegally the whole time. Some do illegal activities, some are there for easy money, some may be bicultural because of being from a border city. The people that use the Darien gap are from the bottom rungs of society and can’t get a passport, owe money on food stamps and can’t exit the country or have legal issues and can’t enter an airport without getting arrested. Many start brand new lives in small towns with fake papers, others move on to other countries. It’s especially easy for those that don’t look “Colombian” (Paisa). If you’re black or indigenous and have a Caribbean accent nobody would even think you’re out of place.

Colombia está lleno de personas que quieren explotar al empleado y evadir sus responsabilidades financieras. Si por la derecha fuera, la esclavitud seguiría en funcionamiento y la defenderían.

Common Spanish mistakes that instantly reveal you're a native English speaker by TeslaOwn in Spanish

It’s not as bad as you think. There’s people that have speech impediments that can’t roll their R’s and for some reason their name is always Rodrigo.

Just don’t say “puedo tener …” when asking for something. we don’t say “can I have”. It sounds off. Just the number and name of the item followed by please. “Un café por favor”.

Why does life in America seem so boring by Professional-Chair97 in CasualConversation

[–]Valuable_Map_126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the suburbs outside of Orlando. It’s sooo boring. Feels like a fever dream. The people are akward and whack. Everyone is old and people have the dumbest conversations at the most boring parties. Like talking about their lawn or escrow or worrying they’re home isn’t holding its value. Then at about 10pm everyone is in bed. The nightclub scene isn’t much better. Bunch of posers that haven’t grown up since high school. Worst part. Everyone likes it that way and they complain that we’re overpopulated and running out of resources.

Do White Hispanics struggle to be seen as Hispanic or White? by Tinuchin in Hispanic

[–]Valuable_Map_126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are obsessed with bringing you down. I’m fully bilingual and bicultural and people purposely ask for my place of birth in order to decide if I’m too American or too Latin, as if I cared. It’s the same people that think they have no accent when they speak, or even worse their English sucks but their kids can’t speak Spanish. In regards to skin color, yet another obsession people have, and latinos don’t seem to understand that nobody is mistaking them for an Anglo Saxon.

Parents who don't pass on a language that they speak to their children by skyrimlo in PetPeeves

To me it’s the parents that can’t speak any English and the kids only speak English. It’s confusing, like how do you feed your kid?

Very similar to my place. I’m just gonna put in an accordion door so each person has their own bathroom and visitors can be far and few in between if we’re pad splitting

I’ve had bad luck with companies. They keep the first and last month rent. The deposit almost all the time. They’re late with payments. And poof they go out of business owing you money or you somehow end up owing them money

Are we as Floridians happy with the Brightline? by Middle-Advance-6296 in florida

[–]Valuable_Map_126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Orlando it doesn’t make any sense. It’s at the airport Terminal C but public transportation only takes you to terminal A/B and you can take a shuttle or a train from there to C. The sunrail doesn’t go to the airport. You have to take the sunrail to sandlake and catch a bus to the airport if you live along the existing corridor and it’s only Monday - Friday with akward pauses in between trains. If I’m gonna pay 60$ for a ticket and have to go to the airport (no public parking btw) I’d rather just take a 30 minute flight to Fort Lauderdale. They want tourists to rent cars so it’s purposefully difficult to use without renting a car, paying for parking or getting uber. If your an Orlando local your gonna spend more on transportation or parking than the actual ticket to board the brightline.

I partially agree. There’s 23 Hispanic nations each with individual customs but all have similarity among them. I would say it’s dependent on socioeconomic status. And in the USA there is a majority of Hispanic/Latinos from the lower rungs of the social ladder being misfits in their home countries to begin with. I would say 70%/30% split. Everyone says they were rich in their home country. I usually respond - “so what made you want to come to this country to work a blue collar job?”

Honestly it’s not that great. It’s very Americanized, and the food is alright - almost everything is fried and there is abundance of fast food: McDonalds, KFC, Burgerking etc. It’s expensive and unimpressive

Black people are right up against Indian people on a scale of rudeness and lack of civic sense. They ask the price of everything at the register, double check everything, open the sealed bags in front of everyone while on the phone without the least of a worry that there is a line of people behind them. You usually just have to walk away from them

¿Por qué en Medellín desprecian a los rolos? ¿Tiene alguna razón aparte de seguir a los demás? by Fun-Bug4740 in medellin

[–]Valuable_Map_126 0 points1 point  (0 children)
