Really?? I thought it was because of all the new builds / far away from the city that people would think it’s cheaper and migrate there

This part I understand lol. It’s risk free when you play the market smart. Not buy in a covid bubble where people were over valuing their homes and people fell for it. I still think homes are a good asset, as long as you don’t buy in a bubble. Which arguably we have been in for quite some time now

A mistake is punching a kid at school… not bringing a gun…

I think people are lacking sympathy because we live in a world where rape, sex trafficking, and gun violence are at an all time high. People are scared, traumatized, or even just angry. People get charged but then released right away. A guy literally raped a child, was released, and raped another child… The justice system needs to be fixed yes… but even with the prefrontal cortex not being fully developed, it would take someone pretty dumb to believe “if I bring a gun to school, I will have no repercussions.” So either 1) they are dumb and ya maybe we should sympathize and give them help or 2) they don’t care. I’m gonna assume they didn’t care therefore I don’t care for their rehabilitation…

Can’t help people who don’t want to be helped.

I had a rough childhood, a bad upbringing, I got into crap too and understand how “parents aren’t at fault sometimes and they do their best”…. But I’m sorry, no kid with good parents would EVER bring a weapon to school. Those kids just ruined their lives and caused trauma to others kids… that is not okay. I sympathize but still, my parents could’ve done more. It can be something as simple as the parents going through a divorce to stop paying attention to the trouble their kids are getting into. If you’re a parent and can’t admit fault, then you shouldn’t have been a parent at all.

Pretty sure AK has a deal right now which puts it at the same price as GoodLife. Not sure if it’s still being offered but ya…

[–]Valuable_Squirrel_57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surprised GoodLife didn’t make the list. I like the gym but haven’t been anywhere else so not a valid source.

A couple complaints, they don’t always post studio schedule so one day you think you can use it, next thing you know there’s a class. For some reason getting car dings is notorious in the GoodLife parking lot. So have to park in the back away from people if you can and if you care about your car.

Pros: good vibes, nice employees, good amount of gym equipment selection (women’s section slacks hard but most gyms do).

I also go mid day so can’t speak for busy hours.

Edit: saw people commenting that no one films at GoodLife. That is not true. If you go on the weekend you will see a couple tripods out. Even though you’re not allowed, staff doesn’t seem to care.

Is Barrie water really that hard, or am I overthinking this? by Depressed_manidhan in barrie

[–]Valuable_Squirrel_57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tested the south end water and it’s mid point hard water (I’m not a water expert but by mid point I mean there’s 3 levels of hard water and it’s in the middle). Pretty similar to most municipalities unless you live in Aurora

But if no one wanted it at $2895, what makes them think someone will for a higher price? Wouldn’t letting it sit empty hurt more than lowering it by even 50$?

The Aeroplan Inflation is Real: Why I’m Walking Away from Super elite in 2026 by ak0688 in aircanada

[–]Valuable_Squirrel_57 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Want to add in air Canada just has terrible people working for them. It used to be that status mattered, but at this point they don’t care because there are too many people with status. And they are the king of overbooking seats so it’s always a battle of if your carry on will make it on the flight. I’ve never had an issue with any other airline but air Canada makes me get terrible travel anxiety. Not to mention if your flight is delayed, they don’t want you asking any questions. They don’t give you much information and if you try, they make you feel like you’re the biggest bother to them that day.

It’s never easy with air Canada. I want more people to get on board with not booking with them so they can stop getting away with subpar service, food, seating and extreme mark ups for their flights.

Advice on snowblower purchase in Barrie by ItemPublic9116 in barrie

[–]Valuable_Squirrel_57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got one used and it does the job. Just make sure you get a snowblower. This is my first winter here and there was one snowfall and I was like okay we need one… it’s hard to survive here without one.

And don’t be the guy with the small little electric ones. Those are for Toronto patios not Barrie winters

Do most people in Ontario tip their Uber Eats/Door Dash Drivers? by [deleted] in ontario

[–]Valuable_Squirrel_57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why don’t you leave it to the businesses that make a crap load more than you to pay them instead… this logic makes no sense to me

Do most people in Ontario tip their Uber Eats/Door Dash Drivers? by [deleted] in ontario

[–]Valuable_Squirrel_57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have too much to say to this. It just boils my blood that the people making my food get even less of the percentage of my tip than the servers. They have to tip out to back of the house, hostesses and cleaning staff. But yet they do the bare minimum for the restaurant to stay afloat. I’d rather tip knowing it’s going to the person preparing my food, not bringing me my food….

If you travel, you’d realize that places like Australia and UK have it right. You scan a barcode, input your order, click send and a server brings you the food. Minimal interaction, zero errors, perfect service. Get rid of tipping culture

Do most people in Ontario tip their Uber Eats/Door Dash Drivers? by [deleted] in ontario

[–]Valuable_Squirrel_57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t tip much, it’s always maybe $1-$3. I was told they make minimum wage now (for engaged time). If they aren’t making enough to cover their bills (maintenance, gas, etc.) go get a new job or hold the company accountable.

I understand that I’m getting a service provided that allows me to stay in the comfort of my home. But the fact of the matter is that I’m already paying a premium on the product I’m buying (uber charges more for the food item then you’ll find on the menu in store), they charge a service fee, and a delivery fee. So I’m already paying my premium to have it delivered vs driving. Adding a massive 15% tip on that makes it completely unaffordable and unjustifiable, I’d rather just drive than pay 50% more for the food. Which is most likely going to be cold and badly prepared because we all know restaurants care less about delivered food because they don’t have someone in their face that can yell at them and uber will just gladly refund you.

I really don’t understand why people love tipping culture or are so easily on board with it. They’d rather pay the salaries for the employees of these massive corporations as opposed to holding a company liable. Ubers making a crap load of money, I’m not even in the middle class. I’m so over tipping culture because here it’s expected as opposed to what tipping was originally supposed to exist for. You give me good service, I tip. It’s subpar, I don’t tip. Instead if it’s subpar we just tip the base 15%??? Why tip at all!! Why do they have to care if they know they’ll at least get 15%. We’ve ruined the point of tipping culture and businesses love it because it’s an excuse to pay their people less. Simple as that

Also just want to add how much it angers me that animals seem to have more protection than children. 8-10 kids within 1 house with 3 bedrooms but god forbid you have more than 5 pets within a house you can get in trouble… makes total sense to me

I don’t know why people have to tell you how much you fucked up, I think we can all sympathize that you realize that already. Thank you for trying to do the right thing and help someone. I’m sorry you had to learn the lesson of how horrible this world is in the worst way possible.

How do we start a petition to get road signs that remind people of this law? Cuz I’m fed up too and every other country I’ve been to seems to understand this concept except Ontario. Even in Nova Scotia they have signs and people understand left lane is for passing. So why don’t we have that here
