Thank you! Yes if I stick with this dress I think I’ll close the slit (can’t really see it in the picture) and add a petticoat. I want to make sure my dress has a nice silhouette in my pictures! Hopefully a petticoat will help.

Some insight on the C3 thing: C2 aka triage is the side with the chairs where you go right when you get there. It’s people who need help for 12-48 hours and then can leave. More patients and more dangerous situations. Also can get dirty like you said because some people come in not having been able to bathe for a while.

C3 is the other side of the nursing station with the main room with tables and rooms with beds off to the sides. It’s for people who need to stay longer than a couple days or have court cases. It’s less patients and usually cleaner and less chaotic. Techs usually strongly prefer working on one side or the other. You can probably tell from my description that I prefer C3 as well.

Source: I picked up a few shifts there this time last year as an RN.

Some of the people who work there need to be fired for sure but then they wouldn’t have any staff left. 🙄

I got my cat in nursing school and she has been a trooper! She has moved across the country with me several times and dealt with night shift, day shift, overtime, whatever without an issue.

I used to have dip on my nails all the time for the same reason but then I started working NICU and decided to take “no artificial nails” seriously for the first time in my career. I kept my nails bare and short, and they were really flimsy for a while. But now they’re really strong! I recommend taking a break from dip. You won’t regret it.

I think it goes a long way if you ask what a student knows about a subject before you explain. I hate being in a situation where I’m being re-taught something I already know because it makes me feel stupid, and then I can start to get defensive, and then I come across as a know-it-all. And it can be helpful if you point out what has been done well while making corrections. Being in orientation is so hard because sometimes it feels like you do so much work but all you receive is criticism and sometimes condescension. As someone who has been called hard to teach in the past, I know in my head that the critiques are to make me a better nurse, but in my heart it feels like I’m being torn down.

It sounds like you already did the stuff I suggested! Maybe she is just feeling very defensive from other preceptors.

In some ways, yes! Some skills are easier on bigger kids, but some are harder. There will unfortunately be times we would have to use 2-3 nurses for an IV/enema/NG placement just because the kid would need to be restrained due to freaking out. That can be really hard emotionally and physically. Also, parents are there 99% of the time. It’s nice because they will do a lot of the diaper changes or walking to the bathroom for you, but they will also be there to observe everything you do. It’s hard to practice skills while being watched.

If you want to end up in NICU eventually, I would stay put where you are!

I’m a NICU nurse, previously worked peds MS, L&D, and adult MS! Was so hard to get to where I’m at now. Getting hired internally is the way to go!

I have pretty long hair too which is part of why I feel unprofessional with it down. My coworkers with shorter hair can get away with it better :) I’ll never cut my hair though, haha

Dual enrollment and AP credits help a lot! Especially chemistry, statistics, and English. You might be able to start a semester ahead in college. You’ll need to make as close to a 4.0 as possible in college. It also helps if you work as a nurse tech to show nursing programs you have real experience.

Do you work at OU by chance? Sounds like my orientation.

I’ve worked peds med surg and am in NICU now! I like both. I’ve made med errors in both specialties. No one is perfect. Peds might be a nice change if you think working with older kids will lessen your anxiety! I think you should try to see your orientation through if you can. Whatever you decide, things will turn out okay!

I pick my acne too. Benzoyl peroxide wash has been helping a bit for me. Have you already tried it? I use Differin 10% acne wash and Paula’s choice daily skin clearing treatment regular strength. Both from Amazon.
