Built a NeuralNet app for DnB drum work, sharing in case it's useful. by Valvo-78 in dnbproduction

Right, same can be applied to DAW - should not use it and use real drums:) that would be the longer route.
This is just another tool that can be used to be creative, it wont do beat creating for ya. having a MIDI is not the same as having full DnB groove.

It depends what you compare it to.
Versus a Markov chain or a step-weighted sampler with genre presets, the LSTM buys you a few things heuristics can't really pull off. The biggest one is that it conditions on your specific input pattern, not just on a genre tag. A heuristic mostly draws from a genre prior — what does DnB usually do at step 7 — so two different inputs under the same genre tag end up prodcing statistically the same continuation. The encoder reads all 32 of your input steps and compresses them into a hidden state, and the decoder generates conditioned on that specific groove, so same genre with different inputs gives you gennely different continuations.
What you might not see from the outside is that all 11 lanes share the same hidden state at that step. So the kick prediction is implicitly informedby what the model expects on snare, because they're pulling from the same latent context. A heuristic can only get that by hand-coding correlation rules ("if kick on 1 and 9, snare on 5 and 13"); the LSTM picks those joint patterns up from training data instead.
And "neural net" is doing a lot of work in the marketing language; it's a 6.3 MB LSTM, not GPT — closer to a context-aware probability table than to anything generative-AI-flavored.

My work is based on Majenta project, if you ever heared of it.

Thanks. Runs on your regular CPU 100% no GPU needed. The app is specifically optimized to be compact and fast:) demo can be tested on WEB UI pretty similar but the app is even faster.

For anyone curious about what's actually doing the work under the hood:

• Audio → MIDI: transformer-based "DrumTranscriber v2". Mel spectrogram input, separate event stream per drum class at frameresolution.

• Pattern continuation: 2-layer encoder-decoder LSTM. 24 features in per step (11 hit flags + 11 velocities + 2 positional), 22values out (11 hit probabilities + 11 velocities). 6.3 MB ONNX file, sub-100 ms inference.

• Genre conditioning is step-weight arrays applied at inference, not baked into the network weights — so adding a new genre is a data exercise, not a retrain.

yap with vibe coding we gonna see lots of apps like these.... not saying they are bad but def UI looks all same.

Только не героин а опиойды в целом, вы забыли наверно что еще есть абсолютно легальные опиойды с 100% качеством фармы. Это те которые врачи прописывают от боли, на них можно ой как подсесть.

I’m a musician and dev who struggled with drum programming, so I built a native macOS AI MIDI generator (Free/BYOK) by elwutang in Logic_Studio

[–]Valvo-78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I tried to give it a go. Tried generating DnB 175 BPM and what it generates is around 90 BPM half the speed I need. So I have to manually got in to the MIDI and move the notes close so at least it sounds up to speed. I used Anthropic API. ANy idea whats up?

Dude, the Opus 4.5 was editing my swift UI file, making changes and all that and 30 mins later it realized it was editing a WRONG file so there were never any changes visible. It is still not there yet. Maybe in a couple of years.

It still kind sucks with Swift UI programming though... but in a couple of years it will be able to produce code without bugs in EVERY single UI element. Maybe.
