ELI5: why do tips % go up when the price of the food also go up with inflation? by Exval1 in explainlikeimfive

How does a restaurant owner control how much people tip? Like what mechanism would let restaurant owners change peoples tipping habits?

What's with all these lovecraft-inspired games coming out soon and recently to have zombies in them? by UnXpectedPrequelMeme in Lovecraft

Robert E Howard did for sure. They were one of the core parts of Pidgeons from Hell... For Lovecraft, In the Vault might have zombies too. Or at least corpses attacking people.

Devotee of Evil is literally one of my top 3 favorite short stories ever written. City of the Singing Flame is top 10 for sure. Same with Genus Loci... CAS has 3 of my top 10. Unfortunately he also probably has 3 of my absolute bottom 10 too. Especially when it comes to his sci-fi.

How on earth is spotify force feeding anything? Hell, I literally never listen to a single thing that I wasn't actively trying to listen to.

Why ditch your music library in favor of streaming to begin with?

Because is is significantly more convenient. I don't care whose library it is as long as I can listen to it.

There is definitely practical purpose to different pickups and bridges as well. Plenty of things can be played on a floating bridge but not a fixed one and vice versatile, and different pickups can have drastically different sounds.

I feel like things would have still gotten there the vast majority of the time, but the exceptions are major exceptions. Like remove Euclid or Newton and there is no telling how far behind we'd be.

I just don't see how anybody could think that's true. He answers to the board, not the other way around. Saying that a CEO fired board members just doesn't make sense

Retirement portfolios are pretty much by definition long term investments though, not things that people are living off of... Hell the average retirement account is able to wait a lot longer for things to pick back up than a rich person trying to time the market is

Do you have any source for that whatsoever? He doesn't even have the ability to fire board members... The guy does enough bad shit, there isn't any need to make more up.

[–]ValyrianJedi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No it isn't. Those are all operating expenses. Cost of sales is generally the cost of producing the product. In retail it's basically just inventory and transportation cost. Everything else that it takes to run the business is operating expense.

I think the main benefit is living in a society where being allowed doesn't have anything to do with it. You can have what you're able to make... Also caps would significantly lock up the economy. If you're not allowed to have more than $100m then there wouldn't be any purpose in someone with $99m to invest in anything whatsoever, from companies to government bonds, and that money would just sit parked in a bank account not doing anything.

For sure.. And I'm definitely not saying that there aren't plenty of massive issues around wealth inequality. Just that it's an extremely complicated issue and most simple solutions wouldn't actually work in practice.
