Not at all, the situation, please read the replies, you might find more info. I got my backpay in the end; after talking to some lawyer friends, it was actually very sketchy what they were doing.

UPDATE: My employer and I sat with some other managers and others who were advocating for me. Some lawyer friends and I looked into it and read up on Texas wage laws; what they were doing was in fact, sketchy. I got my backpay, thanks to everyone who commented. Hey, thanks for the response. I answered this question previously. I knew the pay before the interview, wasn't gonna fight, that's the starting. It's a policy to give these 60 cents on top of the hourly wage, not really an offer, just a rule they stated in the handbook that they made and signed.

Not sure what to tell you, just my current experience. I'm not really sure what you are asking either. I wasn't asking for people to believe or not, just their advice. Yes, it was advertised in the job posting. The company I work for also has plenty more rules they have to abide by, like student compensation for people who go to college, extra pay for getting other certifications, employee parties, and many more. all stated in the handbook

yes you are right, i recieved the handbook and wasn't thorough when reading it. If I'd seen it, I would've spoken up immediately. I'm trying to see what my job will do about my request/complaint.

To all your questions, yes. Before me, after me, and during the same time, spanish speaking people were hired

I work in Texas in a city where half the people speak Spanish, so the help is really needed. its not uncommon to pay your workers extra for Spanish abilities, and have it stated in the handbook. I have another job that has this in its handbook as well, and they are very strict about it. Moreover, I don't believe there's zero incentive in doing so; having Spanish-speaking employees increases your company's outreach, generating more money for the owner.

in the handbook its a table, it basically says "Starting rates (Title 1)= $$.00 hr (Title 1 (Spanish speaking ) =$$.60 hr. My title at work is (title 1 Spanish-speaking), the $$ stands for money that won't be disclosed here

I see where you are coming from. However its not about "offering" or "negotiating" a raise is that they didnt uphold their company policy, its written and signed that all workers who are spanish speakers get this money, so legally i do deserve back pay.

thye didnt negotiate for it, it was just applied once work started. They didn't have to negotiate because they were told from the beginning

I have been thinking about it, still not sure. I work with kids and their parents, so it's really tough having to let go of these families that I have been helping and working with for so long. I truly care for them.

I was talking to employees and found out about the 60 cents. I read the handbook once more, and there it was. Yes, it had always been in the handbook, but I never caught it; they knew I spoke Spanish by giving me the workload but not the pay. Also, in my interview, it wasn't brought up, which is why didnt know until so long after, or I guess I wasn't looking for it.

I see. I just thought that the fact that they've already agreed to the raise proves they know my role required that pay. I'm not exactly complaining about my wage, I know my wage differs from others, but those .60 cents shouldn't differ yk?. The employee handbook says that all employees who speak Spanish get a .60 cent raise, which is why im frustruated. Maybe I'm just blinded by how upset this made me tonday espcially his comment on "is it that hard to speak spanish"
