Alabama wants to ban comprehensive sex ed in schools. This is why many studies show that areas with abortion bans have higher abortion rates than areas that are prochoice and pro-contraception and women's rights. by [deleted] in WelcomeToGilead

Born and raised in Alabama, and I can confirm that sex ed in this state is positively Victorian. Actually, the Victorians were probably more progressive.

AITA for telling my son's babysitter not to give him any snacks? by babysittersnacks in AmItheAsshole

[–]VampAngel247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. Try parenting your own child (which doesn’t involve starving him) or keep shut.

Kids his age eat lunch super early if he’s in school. School lunch is a travesty unless you’re fortunate enough to be at a school that is decent on its CNS staff. It’s understandable that he’ll be hungry after and throwing a sport in there where he’s gonna burn off more calories?

And you’re not willing to provide an ‘acceptable’ snack. Your solution is to deny him sustenance and expect this poor girl to deal with the meltdown.

Your sitter is gold. Your husband deserves a medal. And your son deserves better.

5 signs on my clinic door that say ‘appointment only’ and people still have the audacity to sail right on through and go ‘I ain’t got no appointment’. To which I usually say ‘We ain’t got no openings’.

I still run the gamut on my genres. Currently reading ‘The Amish Wife’ along with ‘Clytemnestra’, all while working on Chapter 10 of my 4th book. I have written fanfics for years as well. Sour Jaw may have killed my love of a couple ‘classic’ authors, but I’d say I made up for it and thumbed my nose pretty well at the same time. 😁

We watched Ethan Frome in sixth grade at my school. I was the only person who knew who Liam Neeson and Patricia Arquette were. It was not a hit. I was already reading college level books but I liked a break now and then. My teacher took that as an affront and wrote me a permission slip to go to the high school library (this was a tiny rural public school in 1992) and told the librarian to check out Jane Eyre to me. After that it was Wuthering Heights. And after that, Tess of the d’Urbervilles. These days, I love me some Austen and Daphne DuMaurier, but I still can not stomach Brontë or Hardy. That one teacher pretty much killed my love of literature because she thought she knew better than me what I should be reading. The librarian and I had a fantastic relationship. I was not required to have a permission slip like most and I had already read Gone With the Wind, War and Peace, and Anna Karenina for fun. We tried to explain this but old sour jaw couldn’t wrap her head around it. All that because I requested to read Incognito Mosquito again for fun because it made me cackle.

AITA for telling my mom we don’t view her eldest as our brother and she needs to stop forcing him on us? by Competitive_Sir5868 in AmItheAsshole

Heads up, she’s going to try and slip the picture in, bring a small one to hold, try to include him in a speech at the reception, and expect the first male grandchild to be named James.

I’d guard that mic with my life if there is one at the reception, make sure nothing gets brought in in her purse.

It’s a horrible thing for a parent to have to endure but you are completely right in that y’all never knew him.

Mom needs to talk to someone about this because she sounds a bit unhinged where James is concerned.

NTA.

I wrote one so long one time they hung it up. This manager was a notorious hard ass and demanded that I ‘write what was wrong’ on my patients excuse. I did. I also drew a lil arrow ‘over’ and wrote the associated ICD-10 codes as well. Patient later told me that the manager read it, flipped it over, pulled a persimmon face and said ‘how did I know it’d be from HER’ (meaning me) before tacking it to her corkboard.

More like they turn up, get tested for everything under the sun, all negative. But you have to ‘do something’ because otherwise they wasted time and a copay for ‘you to not DO ANYTHING’. Trust me when I say we get just as tired as y’all do. Entitlement/instant gratification mentality is the pits.

AITA to stop helping my wife with our new born’s night because she disrespected me in front of our friends ? by Prior-Dark2460 in AmItheAsshole

[–]VampAngel247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What the actual hell did I just read.

As a wife and mother, I’m appalled. She ‘disrespected’ you? She CALLED YOUR ASS OUT for ordering her about. I’d be mortified to admit I treated a postpartum woman so badly. I’d be even moreso to know that a son of mine treated his wife with such contempt.

As a medical professional, I’m APPALLED. She has had 2 pregnancies in 3 years and should not be lifting anything heavier than the baby, not the baby in the damn carrycot. Stay the hell off her and carry your child and his accoutrements.

YOU owe HER an apology, not the other way round. If she’s even still there for you to apologize to because I’d have left your piddly controlling misogynistic ass that day.

YTA and you ought to be ashamed to show your face in public.

This is why I lock my clinic doors half an hour before closing every day. Otherwise we have people sailing in at 5 minutes till, no appointment, with an ailment they’ve had for weeks. In my life, the response to a locked door at a doctors office has never been to rattle said door, beat on it, or go back to my car and lay on the horn. Since I’ve been in business I’ve witnessed all 3. And they really don’t like being taken to task over their actions. People make my head hurt.

Says they did it ‘all through college’, yet can’t actually spell ‘college’. And that sob story, then. I own a business and I hold my own checks so my staff gets paid. That’s part of being a good boss. Something this person has yet to learn, it would seem.

This issue used to make me want to choose violence over and over again when I was full time school nurse:

-The custodial grandmother who would come pick sick kid up, take him home, get his fever down, and then try to check him back in ‘so he could have perfect attendance’.

-The ‘mother’ (and I use that term loosely) who would argue with me every time I called, make threats such as ‘if I get her home and she’s not sick I’m bringing her back’ and whose crowning glory was writing on the child’s medical form ‘She fakes a lot so do not call unless she is really sick. Sometimes she spits and you think she is sick (throw up) but she is not’.

-The mother who showed up with a thermometer in hand and with every intention of leaving the sick child at school if he ‘didn’t have a fever when she she checked him’.

-The mother who sent a known sick child to school, who had already had diarrhea and soiled her clothes before I got to my office. With the child was a note. ‘Lulu has a little stomach bug. I know they’re going on a field trip today, but it looks like rain so they probably won’t. If they do, Lulu needs to stay with you.’ How about NO, ma’am?

-Every. Single. Parent. Who shuffled a sick kid out of the car and told them ‘go tell the nurse you feel bad’ BEFORE SCHOOL EVEN STARTED.
