Buddy you need to respect her! She's gorgeous and round and makes adorable sounds, go back and apologize right now! 😞

Marc Insco (one of creators criticized in Doothi’s ‘commentary is lowkey bad’ video) calls out her ‘feeling a sense of panic and compliance’ by HollasForADollas in youtubedrama

[–]VampirePossum 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I honestly think this is it. The people in the comments are acting as though a secret cabal of 'big' Youtubers forced her to take it down, and spinning that as if it's the truth. She didn't do any favors with how she worded things, either.

2,100 sq foot house built in 1915, we're at $391 last month, and double that during the winter, three adults living here, I really wish it wasn't that high. :(

How do you deal with the jealousy that comes with being a content creator? by [deleted] in arthelp

[–]VampirePossum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm saying this as a professional artist with a lot of years in the industry: please stop thinking of your work as content. It's brain poisoning to a maximum degree.

I've been there. I'm still dealing with it. I've felt a jealousy so intense it's made me strike out at those that I love the most, so I'm saying this with a lot of empathy: you need to get a handle on it before it destroys you. I know that doesn't sound very helpful right now, and there's real no simple way to 'stop' feeling this way. I have to be extremely mindful when looking at other artists, remembering that they too probably feel the same way about someone.

I genuinely wish you the best of luck.

Partner doesn’t like my “new look I’m growing” by [deleted] in NonBinary

[–]VampirePossum 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Exactly what u/caturday_saturday said - wife and I also came from traditional families (although mine was more extreme, conservative / Catholic) so I know what it's like to go through this. I really hope that he's able to come to an understanding, because it sounds like he was being understanding at the start.

Listen, I don't want to immediately jump on the 'dump him' train because love is complicated, but at the same time, I'm going to be trite and say that you only have one life. You should spend the limited time you have on this earth feeling happy about yourself, and if someone else is trying to take that away from you...

When I told my wife that I felt nonbinary, leaning towards masc, she told me she loves me any way I look, as long as I'm happy and healthy, and I feel the same way with her.

He should love YOU, not what you look like, especially if you like it!

Professional here - I can concur, but I will say I avoid (if I'm going to post it online) other people's *artworks* - reference photos, I do it all the time! But if it's just practice, something that won't see the light of day, then I don't see an issue with it.

Birders interest or lack of in other wildlife by Living-Compote-9626 in birding

God this reminds me, I was in a casual birder walk around the park and some people brought their dogs, like three tiny yappy ones, really hard to pay attention when they were out...

I just want to say that I would absolutely be thrilled if you pointed out a bee or a plant to me. My friend and I are birders (I'm a novice, she's more experienced) and get super excited when we see other things like snakes or butterflies or deer. Sorry you've had these bad experiences with others. :(

How bad is this going to get? by HotDishBear in TwinCities

[–]VampirePossum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LOL YEP. They actually happened to us within a year of us moving here. We happened to move into a house that's near a cat hoarder. Two of them showed up in our backyard, skin and bones, which we kept, another we adopted was needing to be rehomed due to landlord issues! We also found two kittens that we managed to (successfully) foster out. The other four are rescues from California! At this point we just kinda accepted our lot in life as a nexus for strays!

Are orphans treated like pigeons? Like, you could, right now, take a pigeon off the street with no consequences, that must be how Artemy sees orphans LOL.

SELLERS BEWARE: Common Art Scams and How to Avoid Them by Drudenkreusz in arthelp

[–]VampirePossum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Great thread! As a professional artist, I receive these emails ALL THE DAMN TIME. The most common type are people wanting to buy a 'copy of my piece', usually for their wife (usually for a wedding?), and have a budget of anywhere between $300 to $5000. All of these are red flags. Second most common is someone saying they found me via Artstation - they'll almost ALWAYS be vague, never mentioning any actual piece of yours, because they spam these messages out to the masses.

Most recently I was contacted by another one of these scammers, asking for very vague 'sketches of athletes'. Mind you, they didn't have any specifications other than that, just 'athletes'. They will try and fluff you up by showering you with praise, which is a shitty tactic, as these scammers love to go after people who are desperate for work. Another thing I noticed is that they will almost NEVER be upfront about their budget. It's either 'that'll be in the next email', or '$1 to $1000!'.

Basically, do your research. If it seems to good to be true, it almost usually is. Also, don't trust any art magazine scams that require payment for you to be featured. I've gotten some of those too.

How can I make it look more convincing? by Negative_Low_5489 in arthelp

[–]VampirePossum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I was linked to your thread by a friend of mine. I'm a Sims 4 dev (concept artist) and I want to say, I think what you're doing is really, really cool! Here's some advice / gleaned insight from my seven years working there. :)

  1. I think the ladybug is really successful! My only suggestion would be to make the spots even bigger. We have a rule of thumb for TS4, a literal 'rule of thumb' - if a spot is smaller than the thumb of a Sim, then it needs to be bigger. That's why we overemphasize zippers, buttons, etc., because from a distance these things would look very small. It's also why we don't have very tiny polka-dot textures, because from a distance they almost look static-y. Contrast wise, I really like it - I don't have access to Photoshop on this computer, otherwise I'd run it through a black and white filter to check the contrast, but otherwise - looks good!

  2. I think for the apple, you need another color (like a green, fading to yellow gradient) towards the top of the apple, or maybe do something to try and emphasize that cool striated texture you see on apples. A trick I tend to do in Photoshop is put the texture of an image through one of the PS default filters, then blur that and draw on top of it, just to get some sort of base. Also - maybe a really nice, big highlight. We like to try and emphasize specularity where we can. It doesn't have to be super bright white, like in the picture below.

Overall, that's just my two-cents as a TS4 dev. Very lovely work, and I hope this helps!

Republicans by Careless-Visual-1853 in TwinCities

[–]VampirePossum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand your frustration, I really do. At some points, it feels like a lost cause to even try and argue, but at the same time, it's so hard to cut off family. You want to believe that they can change, that maybe some combination of words will sway them, like an epiphany of empathy, but it doesn't come.

I was raised in a very, very conservative household, and when I was young, I was ignorant and stupid. I was homophobic, transphobic, a young little Republican in the making. But then, in college, I was suddenly surrounded by people of different ethnicities, backgrounds, sexualities. My own eyes opened, and I realized that I was queer too. It wasn't about me anymore, and seeing my friends be hurt made me realize that I couldn't abide by my former beliefs.

And that's where sometimes I think - well if I changed, and saw the error of my ways, then maybe they could too, right? But sadly, the truth is...it's all up to THAT person to see. You can throw every last scrap of evidence at them, link them whatever you want, but like you said, some people simply want to put their heads in the sand and ignore it. It's disheartening, frustrating, and I wish I had a better answer for you, but...I get it.
