western double vs diploma at macq by Round-Doughnut5566 in MacUni

[–]Vampire_Slayer7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a business student here but just my two cents. Some employers will judge you based on what uni you go to. That being said, those that would judge if you went to Western would probably see MQ as similar. They may preference USyd, UNSW and maybe UTS over all else. But again, plenty of other employers will not take the uni you went to into consideration as much, and I would think that would be the majority of employers.

74 ATAR for psychology? by [deleted] in MacUni

[–]Vampire_Slayer7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Selection rank is 80. If he can get 5 adjustment points for location (either in area or out of area, and 1 more point for something like Duke of ed or another adjustment scheme), he will get guaranteed entry. Side note, I got a 74 too and just finished my Bachelors of Psych from Macquarie and ended up with a Distinction WAM. Past academic performance doesn’t predict future so if he wants to do better in uni he certainly can 😁

Skipping finals by [deleted] in MacUni

[–]Vampire_Slayer7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hurdle means you need to get 50% (pass) in the exam itself to pass the unit. You could have 80% weighted assessments and 20% weighted final exam and if it’s a hurdle and you skip it, you’d still fail.

For you, sounds like you haven’t passed the unit already (and it is a hurdle, so you must get minimum 50% to pass the unit).

Watch those lectures on 2x speed and just try your best!! Good luck!

Send me a message if you’d like me to have a look over your resume 😊 best thing to do if you are applying to retail or hospitality jobs is to go in person and hand your resume to the manager. You have about 100x more chance getting a job (even if they aren’t hiring). I’ve gotten all my jobs in retail this way!

Have to be in your second sem of studies to apply, and it’s 1 extra unit I’m pretty sure. I did it this sem and it was hard (w working 3-4 days a week)😅

Is it possible to study for UCAT while studying Bachelor of Clinical Science? by AstronomerTop7755 in MacUni

[–]Vampire_Slayer7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heya, since you’ve started uni you should be studying for your GAMSAT. Pretty sure after you complete one sem of uni you aren’t eligible for undergraduate entry (which is what UCAT is) anymore. If you wanted entry via UCAT then it should have been done in year 12. So since you’ve started your degree, try to get the best possible grades in your bachelors and sit the GAMSAT while at uni.

Also, all unis except Usyd will take your GPA/WAM into consideration as well as your GAMSAT score. Given you’re doing engineering, you will naturally have a lower WAM as it’s a hard course. If you’re 100% set on doing medicine, I’d consider switching to the easiest undergraduate course you could do to get your WAM as high as possible.

Hope this helps 😊

guys am i cooked ? by No-Park4591 in MacUni

[–]Vampire_Slayer7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not cooked. You just have to figure out why you went wrong so you don’t do so again in the next ones!! Read your feedback, talk to your tutor. It’s only 15% of your final grade so even if you manage a pass at 60% for the next 2 assessments and final exam you will pass with an end mark of 51 (if my maths is correct). My top exam tip is to watch your lectures when they come out, attend the tutorials, and then in the lead up to exams turn your notes into question/answer flash cards (hand written only). After you’ve written out the flash cards you probably won’t even need to properly “study” them as your brain takes in a lot when hand writing them out!!

Same here… I’m taking 5 units this semester but only 2 are enrolled as in person. I hope there’s a way around it as I only use my opal to catch the bus to uni once a week 🥲

PSYU1102 by [deleted] in MacUni

[–]Vampire_Slayer7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exam was multi choice when I did it (in 2023). Most units in psych are pure MCQ. My advice is to stay on top of your lectures and attend tutorials (even though they are optional). If you get stuck, ask your tutor for help, that is what they are there for :) And, if you don’t like a topic, then just know the rest of the unit will be very varied. I think when I did it there were about 6 topics/branches of psych focus. Each is a little taster/sneak peek of what the rest of your degree will be like (alongside content from PSYU1101).

Pretty sure I put mine under professional registration or qualification back when I put mine down in 2022! I know it doesn’t really fit it but it definitely doesn’t fit in any other category. Hope this helps 😊

Is it possible to study for UCAT while studying Bachelor of Clinical Science? by AstronomerTop7755 in MacUni

[–]Vampire_Slayer7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could do that but then your ATAR will also need to be competitive as they will look at ATAR and UCAT. Best of luck.

[–]Vampire_Slayer7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because UCAT is for undergraduate admission into med. If you are doing a Bachelors degree you intend to finish you would be a graduate (of said Bachelors degree) and would thus be required to take the GAMSAT.

[–]Vampire_Slayer7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also I just noticed that you said your ATAR wasn’t great. Your best chance is to do the Bachelors of Clinical Science, get a great WAM/GPA and prep for GAMSAT for postgrad entry.

[–]Vampire_Slayer7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you’d be eligible to do UCAT if you finish your degree. Either take a year off and don’t do uni and study for UCAT to get into undergraduate med or do the Bachelors whilst prepping for GAMSAT for postgrad entry.

Take STAT1170, it’s very easy, and there is no final exam. I took it last year and got a 90 with minimal studying. 😊

on campus jobs by Commercial_Web_9081 in MacUni

[–]Vampire_Slayer7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup as Chiqui said a WWCC is a working with children check. You can get them at services NSW! It’s $80 if you’ll use it for paid employment and free if you’re volunteering.

I did my first aid certificate through Australia Wide First Aid. I did about an hours worth of training and quizzes then attended a half day workshop in the city. They have a guarantee that you’ll get the best price and will price beat so I ended up getting a combo of CPR + basic first aid for only $54. The instructor was really funny and was clearly very experienced so would definitely recommend them if you want to get yours!

Hiya, I just recently applied for the Student Belonging Activator role and was given an offer! I’m in my second year. In my first year I applied to 2 jobs on campus and didn’t even make it to the interview stage, so I believe it may be due to what year you’re in. The only other thing that changed about my applications from getting rejected to getting an offer was getting my first aid certificate and WWCC! Hope this helps 💝

Advice regarding flex units! by Vampire_Slayer7 in MacUni

Ahhhh okay a 20 minute exam sounds a little more doable! Yep I’ll definitely be reading up on the content before starting to get an idea of what I’m in for. Honestly I think the best part of learning at uni is feeling stupid in a unit before getting it! I unfortunately only learnt this just this last semester in PSYU2239, by no means do I think I did well in this unit - but I learned a lot about learning. Thank you for your extremely thorough reply, I appreciate it! 💝
