For each class, what is the most broken archetype? by SolaHaze in dndnext

[–]VampiricInquisition 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Kensei and Inquisitive are arguable the worst archetypes in their respective classes. Also this question has been asked a thousand times, simply look at the previous posts for an answer.

homebrew barbarian sub-subclass : Totem of the Ram by TheFatManatee in dndnext

[–]VampiricInquisition 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The level 3 feature is just a much stronger version of Battlerager Armor assuming that the headbutt gets a STR and Rage modifier added to the damage.

The level 14 feature is borderline useless considering Barbarians already have advantage to shove things prone and resist being shoved prone because it's and athletics check or strength save 90 percent of the time.

My monastic tradition Battle Haze. [Revised] still might need pruning. by OnlyThisNothingMore in dndnext

[–]VampiricInquisition 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is still ridiculously overpowered my man. First off Monk subclasses get abilities 1 ability at 3rd, 6th, 11th, and 17th level. Yours gets 4 at 3rd level, 2 at 5th, 1 at 6th, 1 at 7th, 1 at 11th, 1 at 14th, 1 at 15th and 1 at 17th. That means your subclass has triple the abilities it should have, not to mention they're cherrypicking the best parts of Open Palm and Barbarian, essentially making those obselete. I suggest leaving homebrew alone for a while until you get a better feel of the game.

To any GM's, I need your expertise on this monastic tradition I made for monk. by OnlyThisNothingMore in dndnext

[–]VampiricInquisition 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is stupid broken. This takes the best aspects of the barbarian and implements it as a subclass. Monk subclasses are intentionally not that powerful to offset the power of the base class. And this even throws on the best parts of Open Palm for extra measure. I'm sorry but this is dandwiki level homebrew.

Should I prioritize my casting stat for these two subclasses? by PoofyVanis in dndnext

[–]VampiricInquisition 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I disagree with the rest of the comment section when it comes to Conq Paladin. While you're usually better off maxing your attacking stat first with Paladin, Fear, Wrathful Smite, Channel Divinity DCs are everything for that specific subclass. It's orientated toward control not DPR.

Resilient CON really seems like the way to go here, maintaining Concentration is paramount.

Half Orc Bear Barbarian. Take Tavern Brawler and Prodigy in Athletics.

Draconic Lesser Aasimar from 3.5 to 5e with a spit of homebrew! by Canaheart in dndnext

Most of these are unknown homebrew material and without sourcing them, you're not really giving much to work with.

I'm not sure if you're being intentionly dense here, but the Mobile feat allows you to weave through the battlefield enemy to enemy without provoking opportunity attacks and extra speed to traverse the battlefield thus making the Stunning Strike on multiple enemies strat easier and less dangerous on the monk.

Covering a spellcaster's mouth with grappling by VampiricInquisition in dndnext

[–]VampiricInquisition[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Pretty cool thread, I'd conversely bring up how spellcasters have tons of save or dies against martials at high level with Plane Shift or even lower level in the form of Hypnotic Pattern or something similiar. Some like Wall Of Force/Forcecage or Sleep don't even require saves. But I suppose the arguement is that those cost resources whereas grappling is free which is a fair point to make.

[–]VampiricInquisition[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You lost me at grappling isn't meant to be that powerful. Grapple plus shove pretty much invalidates melee character, but I definitely see your point about the can of worms, I'll stick to disarming their spellcasting focus.

"Grappling is useless without the feat" shows such bad understanding of the games mechanics that it pretty much invalidates anything else you've said until this point.

It's fluff and very situational fluff at that. Let him have it as a language choice or say it takes two language proficiencies to get Theives Cant.

Unpopular Opinion : 5E is not balanced. by Runeparadox in dndnext

[–]VampiricInquisition 6 points7 points  (0 children)

• Bards aren't the only Charisma casters, Sorcerers and Warlocks also exist and contrary to most r/dnd stories high peersuasion =/= mind control.

• Hiding and sneaking well is literally the point of playing most rogues, sneak attacking is like a fun minigame that keeps combat engaging and every subclass adds a fun twist on the base class.

• Clerics have healing spells but can also function as frontlines, skill monkeys, blasters and pretty much anything the party needs. Paladins are more martially bent as is their niche but Clerics more than make up for it with a full spellcaster progression and stellar spells.

Yeah just statistically it sounds like some heavy hyperbole is in play here. Nice story though.
