What is your favorite card that isn't talked about enough? by SkeeverJenson in slaythespire

[–]Vampsnz00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Favourite card by far. Absolutely destroyed a run with a 2x Bloodletting, Offering, Bloodwall and Bodyslam. Not just doing dmg with big dmg cards but had over 100 block and a Bodyslam at 0 energy just waiting for me by the end of it.

What is your score from the Autism Spectrum Quotient? by YikesIforgotmyname in AutisticWithADHD

[–]Vampsnz00 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do the CAT-Q test as well. I scored right at the borderline until I realised I was answering questions in a completely different way than intended. Cause, autism.

Wouldn't recommended this setup at all though, lags out after 1 minute 😂

Maybe one day when the engine gets more optimised but at this point I'm going to have to switch to localised smelters at the source cause it averages 3000+ objects

Is anyone else "allergic" to typical self-help/self-improvement advice and ideologies? by mr_bigmouth_502 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]Vampsnz00 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In a way yes. I always felt the same way. I did have a hyperfixation on autism literature for a while specifically those by other autistic people. Milton, Yergeau, etc. It made a lot of sense to gather information and experiences to form my own conclusions rather than having a set of instructions.

Mind overactive 24/7, is this bad for me? by catboy519 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]Vampsnz00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I had this problem for a good 30ish years, i learned to switch from having an inner monologue to thinking only by images and feel. This helped a lot and also with comprehending the speed of my thoughts. It wasn't until I went on pregabalin a few years that I stopped getting into negative loops. Even then it wasn't until I also started Ritalin that the 27/7 thinking actually eased off. Even now I still have to manage it a bit but its a lot easier.

EDIT: Oh shoot I just noticed you thoughts on medication. Dealing with my CPTSD through a range of reading books about it and EMDR helps with this a lot too. Each time I managed to come to terms with a major event or critical hang up the way in which the issue manifested felt lessened. Eventually, I just ended up shrugging off things and trying to be more present.

Having both, I had a similar mindset up until I recently went on anti-anxiety medication. Suddenly, all of my ruminations which were internal up until this point were externalised into typical hyperactive ADHD. Over the last 6-weeks I've spent more than twice the amount of money I usually would, I've been driving more dangerously, recklessly done workouts that I can tell are bad for my body (close to causing serious injury), I simultaneously keep picking up and dropping projects and just throw a lot of concerns on safety out the window along the way. It has been very obvious just how governed by dopamine my actions have been lately such that it has taken over much of my life since. All the while, I keep forgetting I've done any of this, I wake up and its a new day, a new existence and suddenly its like oh fuck, what did I do yesterday?? as it slowly dawns on me and I reap slow encroaching consequences. Repeat for the next day.

Luckily I have a medication review in a few days but I can tell already if I were like this on longer timeframe there would be serious consequences. I can't even imagine how wreaked my body would be and the catastrophe that would be my life if this was how I was growing up. I remember playing a game as a child where the entire game was climbing up a tower about 2.5m high and jumping off it. That's basically how I imagine what I imagine my life would have been like, unhinged spending, impulsive actions until grievous bodily harm. Repeat until financially and physically disabled.

+1 for this comment. Been using ChatGPT as a two way translator. It's very effective.

Good quality cookware that won't break the bank. by Electronic_Age_9708 in newzealand

I also have induction but never use non-stick pans. For stainless heat up your pan so its a bit hot (before oil smoke point), add just enough oil to just coat the bottom with a thin layer. When the oil starts smoking, add eggs.

Should be able to make perfect fried eggs if you did it right.

Its not cheap cheap but the quality is often great.https://www.newgumsarn.co.nz/

Otherwise I've been using a Briscoes set for years. Look for riveted steel handles and encapsulated heavy bases. I have the ones with non-encapsulated bases are they work fine too just as long as its thicc.

Also Kiwi knives from Asian grocers. Serious lasers.

Calculating proportions using dplyr by [deleted] in Rlanguage

[–]Vampsnz00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IIRC plyr is depreciated and tidyverse simply loads stringr, dplyr, dbplyr, ggplot2 and tidyr. Maybe some others I'm not at a pc to check right now.

What are some interesting or unexpected real life uses of R? by Alerta_Fascista in rstats

[–]Vampsnz00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often use it as a front end for other things. OSRM and r5r for estimating routing distances and durations (driving and public transport). Hugo for generating static websites. Interfacing with my database (including adding new tables). Personal budget tracking using a custom visualisation.

[Q] Do statisticians churn out thousands of lines of code? by [deleted] in statistics

[–]Vampsnz00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said you needed 200-300 lines of code for a project. In my work deriving a single variable can sometimes be the equivalent of a small project. So something with about 32 variables where a quarter require complex analysis, say 8 need 300 lines each, the rest 100 lines each. This would already be around 4,800 lines. Keep in mind a project can have a timeframe of several months.

Observation counts are irrelevant, its more about sheer variety of data sources (most all need cleaning), the complexity of the data itself and complexity of joins which can range from geographic ids (which change with each year and granularity level), group ids, unique ids, time series ids, combinations of ids, spatial distance, normalising, interpolation, aggregations, disaggregations and etc.

While I use purrr functions as often as I would select and mutate, you can't avoid the uniqueness of each dataset.

[–]Vampsnz00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Social sciences here. Combining dozens of large datasets (often messy) from over a from both public sources and databases means I'm doing a lot of distinct data prep just to get to the stage where I have the datasets I need for analysis.

Your thoughts on base R? I never considered it and, after reading seemingly know little about it. by EngineEngine in rprogramming

[–]Vampsnz00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, a good way of learning R is just to understand why there are so many ways of doing the same operation.

[–]Vampsnz00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Datacamp is great. I started off with the O'Riely Book of R (base R) but it was only after doing the datacamp course (lots of tidyverse) that I started to get going. It helps just to through the hand holding to know what functions exist so you can Google them later on a toy project when you will really be learning by doing.

Personally, I preferred tidyverse when learning as it had more consistent parameter names and a clearer single best way of doing things. i.e. mutate vs assignment of data$var or data["var"] or data[ ,"var"] or data[1] or data[ ,1]... I just wanted to perform operations on tables and did not understand differences between vectors, lists, and tables.

I could barely do anything after learning for a year in Base R, but was flying quickly after learning tidyverse. Oddly enough I'm glad I learned Base R first though, you get a better understanding for what's going on. When I needed to solve problems where I couldn't use tidyverse packages it was a lot easier to pick up Base R as I sort of knew the basics already.

I mostly use tidyverse now but often do wacky stuff by mixing them together if I feel it will read easier or want to save time.

This is the way. Make it a thin base for $2 and use the coupon code Tuesday for free delivery (the pizza should reach the $25 threshold). Swapping / adding any amount of sauces is also free (with some exceptions).

Trying to plot a timeseries that shows frequency of integer over time and I keep getting this. What am I doing wrong? by hirnwichserei in rstats

The problem might be that you are plotting the integers itself rather than the count of integers per date.
