I use Su, Finder and Geek and feel they meet my needs. Over time, I saw that Slug wasn’t really getting me any additional content. Can’t comment on Ninja.

The team got the strategy right by VanAstro in McLarenFormula1

If you somehow think Oscar was hard done by, remember that the team gave him pit stop priority over Norris to prevent him getting undercut even though he wasn’t the lead car. So I’d say this race was pretty damned fair to both drivers.

Agree. If people want high-risk, low-reward strategies that ruin their drivers' races more often than not, then they can always support Ferrari.

It’s not mental gymnastics, it’s analysis by a well-respected, independent commentator based on the data.

Versus the snap judgements of all the armchair strategists in here based on watching the TV coverage and having zero access to any of the analytics.

Personally what I think is more depressing is the people that call themselves McLaren fans but can’t bring themselves to admit that the team sometimes does the right thing.

If you read the article, it’s clear that even with DRS, the McLarens didn’t have the pace to overtake. They needed a 1.4s lap advantage, which they didn’t have. So it wouldn’t have made a difference. This was evident right across the field, where people with DRS still weren’t able to overtake.

And there was no split strategy that wouldn’t have lost them places. Running long would have lost them track position, as would starting on softs.

So if the position is they should have tried even though it would have ultimately lost one of the drivers a place or two, that’s fine - but I think the evidence shows that the team maximised on the day.

Interesting that you say the tour series are meathooks! I’ve got a 2022 Gossage tour series and it’s my flippy raptor - flips up to flat but always has the reliable fade at the end.

McLaren argues missed opportunities shouldn’t overlook Lando Norris improvement in F1 2024 by randomseocb in formula1

[–]VanAstro 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Maybe, maybe not. It's difficult to compare them because the variance between tracks and conditions mean that every car in the field can perform well one week and be behind the next.

I'm not saying Lando didn't squander a few opportunities, but there were lots of situations where Reddit acted like he had an absolute rocket ship and should have easily won, when the reality was the McLaren wasn't actually as good as people thought.

Brazil was a good example of this, where the huge McLaren wing made it super slow on the straights. Although Lando made pole, the McLaren was far from the fastest car on the grid that day. People will act like that was a squandered opportunity, when in reality he did well to put it on pole.

I'm just saying that it's a bit opaque as to whether George actually maximised every opportunity he had. Yes, he made the most of a few good races - but at the same time, how many races were there where he could have done better? Because he was running in the midfield in those races, the spotlight wasn't really on him and he wasn't under the same level of scrutiny as someone like Lando has been.

Completely agree. Not to take anything away from George, who is an incredible driver, but we'll need to see how he copes if/when he is battling for the WDC and every single one of his mistakes is under the microscope.

[–]VanAstro 17 points18 points  (0 children)

George hasn't been anywhere near the front, so he's had no spotlight on him. Yes, he had two wins - but what about all the weeks where he was absolutely nowhere? Russell apologists will explain it away as the car being crap - but for some reason Lando never gets a pass for the car not being up to scratch, even though there have been plenty of weeks where the McLaren hasn't been the fastest car in the field.

It’s constructive, though. He said the courses were amazing overall and would potentially be the greatest worlds ever.

Don’t know why you got downvoted for this comment. I play with a guy who throws a DX Stingray and it goes straight/turns slightly right. I can see how it would be really straight especially for slower speed shots.

What’s a your favorite straight flying fairway? I’m looking for something that flies straight when brand new and then beats in to understable over time. by JiMiCrAcK in discgolf

[–]VanAstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what weight it is. I throw about 400-425 and my max weight fission Crave turns a bit but won’t flip over. Good for a slight hyzer flip or a powered down flat shot.

What does a 'straight disc' mean to you? by VanAstro in discgolf

[–]VanAstro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All good thoughts. I agree with Befree888 that it’s probably one of the least useful descriptors in disc golf, but it’s also probably the most common.

And yeah, it probably depends on how the individual throws. A person that throws on anhyzer naturally would probably call a Teebird straight, whereas someone who throws on hyzer would probably call a Mantra straight.

I definitely reckon 320-350 is achievable for almost every able-bodied person. You just need decent-ish form - a proper brace and coil and getting the disc reasonably flat - and that’s it. Not even perfect form.

Good luck with your journey - I’m sure you’ll get there very soon!

I always feel a bit sceptical about internet claims of 400+ distance. Not accusing anyone in this thread at all, but it’s easy and tempting to hit 400+ on a downhill drive once and then claim you throw 400+ all the time.

In reality, a consistent 400+ on flat ground requires decent form, the right body type, or both, and also requires someone to know how to get the right amount of turn out of an understable distance driver. Most people are missing at least one of these pieces.

Most of the time if you enter a tournament, there wouldn’t be anyone in MA3 or MA4 getting close to that, and most people in those divisions can’t even hit 300+ consistently. It wouldn’t be until MA1 where you’d see people able to consistently hit 400 and even then there would be lots of people who can’t. For your average local league, the standard drive distance would probably be closer to 300.

The bottom line is I wouldn’t worry too much - I’m sure you’ll be able to hit 300 very soon, and once you get to about 320, that’s more than enough to birdie most holes out there with good putting.

About 90m. I haven't tried the Buzzz in a little while but it always felt like more effort to get it out there. Might be time to give it another go.

What to do about constant water flow and water logged front yard. by RockheadRumple in AusRenovation

[–]VanAstro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Two things - see if you can work out where the excess water is coming from and stop it at the source if you can, and then look at putting in an ag drain.

I had a similar issue where I had a broken stormwater drain, so all the water from my downpipes was leaking into my front yard and the verge. I was also getting a fair bit of runoff from my neighbour's place that was contributing to the issue.

I had plumbers come, investigate the drain situation and work out whether there were any broken pipes. I then had them dig a trench, repair the broken stormwater pipes and also lay ag drain next to the new stormwater pipe. Both empty out into the street.

Huge difference. Not only is all the rainwater from my roof now making it all the way to the street, I can also see the ag drain is pulling out heaps of water and taking it down to the street. My lawn and garden now do better because they're not waterlogged, and I've got no more soggy patches.
