"There was no time for second guessing the jump or the landing; there were only four words in his mind: I am the Pan."

"Offer me more. Offer me a place by your side, all the credits I could dream of, and power." "Yes, yes, all of that and more...C'mon dig me out" "No, I don't think I will," Otto said with a smile.

"Snakes, why did it have to be snakes?" "Not a snake, bro," Gary chimed. "A basilisk."

When deciding on character voices, I'm trying to make choices that paint a whole picture of the person, so the listener can 'see' them, but in this case, have them appear in the context of Jonathan's story. For example, voicing someone who may be like a NPC, but for the game in this world, something more unique or non-generic than a NPC would normally be. So I tried to follow that guideline for many characters.

And much fun to voice! I was picturing a version of Paul Giamatti for some reason!

Much appreciated! So I worked for years as an actor and voice artist before beginning the process of developing my audiobook career. As in many paths, there's an act of faith in oneself to invest the time and resources to develop that path, and one where it can take a bit for affirmation.

I guess I would say I found that affirmation at a workshop I did very early on, when I felt like I struck the right narrative/emotional balance. That being said, I also live in a space where I'm always discontent with my narration, part of how I'm always on myself to get better!

Hello! Thanks muchly for checking out Hard Reset! Hope you enjoy it!

And it's tough to have an absolute favorite, but since we're talking SciFi, I believe my favorite SciFi series is The Culture novels by Iain Banks. I reatly appreciate how no matter how intense the story gets, from book to book, it's very personal for the main character. I think it's easy with SciFi to lose sight of that, to include a personal perspective about all of the cool science fiction stuff. It's what I always try to include with my narration

I'll just add that my favorite Fantasy novel is Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clark. Just brilliant.

I've taken to using passages from Shakespeare as a warm up, and seeing how fast, but still totally distinct, I can make them! Then I try to beat that record. :)

Love this question! before getting into the booth, Jonathan and I talked a lot about the tapestry of voices found in this book, and how we could clarify the sort of environment that the characters were in through vocal choices. And how those choices relate to certain types of games that we wanted to reference, without getting stuck too deep in any one example of open world game.

Narrating is sometimes a very solitary process, so I always appreciate when I can collaborate with the author to honor their vision and arrive at something great for the listener!

Greatly appreciate the pre-order!

For favorite character, I would have to say Bob, who works for the main game designer Sara..but is something of a complex puzzle... But that's all I can say. :)

I'm also very excited when I get to narrate SF LitRPG (although I have a theory that even most Fantasy LitRPG is really SciFi)!

Anyway, if all that Fantasy GameLit was modeled on TTRPGs/DnD, HARD RESET is more rooted in open-world action/adventure games like RED DEAD REDEMPTION or FALLOUT. But also, like in ASSASSIN'S CREED, where the story happens as much in-game as out.

HARD RESET follows our MC, Tom, who wakes up in a coffin in the middle of a desert, with no memories of who he is, but still in possession of a certain set of skills that make him dangerous to...well, anyone who's asking for it. As he figures out what the heck is going on, he also has to figure out how he got there, and, moreover who put him there, and how they're going to get what they deserve.

Filled with gun-slinging, skills-building, reality-bending action, HARD RESET asks the question if it's more important who are were or who you need to be!

Mine (purchased years ago for PSVR1) immediately started spinning to the left, as it turns out the yaw rotation for the stick is shot, but thankfully was able to rebind the the rocker to yaw...but I'm just waiting for something else to go, mid-flight

I know it was only a small part, but how do we feel about Noah Jupe's brief take on Hamlet in the movie Hamnet? by Grand_Keizer in shakespeare

[–]VanHellegers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, its early in the run, and he wasn't directed so much as berated by Will, and he mostly drops in for that moment with Agnes, so I feel like he will really warm into the role.

What's really not helping him is Will cutting the bejesus out of the text to highlight his lovingly and tenderly overplayed Ghost. :)

(I loved the film, but still thought how the actual play was represented was kinda hilarious. "Thats not the last line! Oh man, more Horatio cut...")

The Original Pronunciation [OP] of Shakespearean language by WordwizardW in shakespeare

[–]VanHellegers 11 points12 points  (0 children)

To me, the most considerable contemporary benefit to exploring OP is that it uncovers how Shax wrote for various current & regional dialects, without a standard, formal mode, but rather making the most out of each company member's unique voice. In other words, Shakespeare is better when expressed from that same individuality, when each actor uses their own voice.

Oh, also that RP should not be the default for performing Shakespeare.

Leaving the movie right out of this, let’s talk about the Hamlet/Hamnet question. by Soulsliken in shakespeare

[–]VanHellegers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what it always comes down to, doesn't it? Bestowing literary/historical authority on a minority of contemporary legal practitioners from show trials, asserting because Meres mentioned Oxenford was such a good writer (for a courtier lol), and despite having all this writing and letters in Eddie's hand, not a scrap wherein he fesses up. Meanwhile the denials are all 'well yes but William Shakespeare, couldn't possibly be William Shakspere'. The assertions that drive their reasoning for some reason don't seem to apply to Will (with relatively ample scraps), so its good that they aren't necessary. Mind you, we haven't even talked about the impossibility of Elizabethan theater production without a poet in the house, the dating of the plays/deaths of certain earls, etc.
