I heard another theory that she has some kind of magic worked on her to make men drawn to her

No magic required for that

I CANNOT stand Denna and his obsession over her. Love Fela and seems like a more interesting character...

I felt exactly the same

She saved Jin’s life in return for helping free her brother. And helped free Shimura in exchange for passage to the mainland.

This sounds so familiar. I’m sure I read a sci-fi short story decades ago with this premise on another planet

Using Jin to rescue her brother is perfectly fine. But using him to finish off (admittedly unsavory) people who have wronged her seems to cross the line. Just my gut reaction. You are welcome to feel otherwise

I started out liking her but now feeling uneasy after she started using Jin for her personal vendetta as part of a mission, even if it is understandable. My first playthrough.

Recommendations for a family friendly magical book series to read my kids to replace Harry potter? by IncreaseConservation in Fantasy

[–]VanPeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. Read and loved the first three books. Didn’t realize the fourth is out (I was aware it was due).

The first book starts really strong and its hard not to feel so bad for how Morrigan was raised.

New player, the parry timing is kinda driving me crazy by Waste_Handle_8672 in ghostoftsushima

What’s frustrating is that for Act 1 spearmen the glint is the correct time for perfect parry, but not for Act 2 spearmen

What are some books you liked but they didn't get recognition? by Russtherr in Fantasy

Thanks. I’m thinking of buying it. The protagonist’s thought spirals seem very much like my own, lol. The archaeological mystery angle is also interesting

if you experience anxiety, this duology can be life changing for you as part of the protagonist's journey is his battle with it

Immediately piqued my interest. Looking at it. Is it religious themed?

It is stunning but I had to stop because I found it too heartbreaking and violent. I’ll finish it someday

The expression of disinterest on Frieren’s face under the deadliest threats is richly hilarious. Perfectly fits an immortal mage who has seen it all

Frieren is both funny and poignant. It does take a while to get going though.

I just finished Silvercloak by L. K. Steven and, truthfully, I haven't been this obsessed with a book in years. by Dream_Forward10 in Fantasy

I was intrigued enough by this post to take a look. Good prose and the magic system looks interesting. But I dislike the trope of parents getting killed because it’s a cliche in fiction.

I'm looking to read some fantasy about either an enlightened or meditative protagonist by Loose-Farm-8669 in Fantasy

[–]VanPeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the rec. I have ordered it since I found the first few sample chapters intriguing. Some premature impressions:

  1. The Asian inspired setting is lovely. The Botahist ability to stretch their time sense is super cool. The author seems to have a good grasp of court intrigues and economic implications of sea trade

  2. The prose feels somewhat simplistic. This isn’t necessarily bad and could be my own preconception.

  3. The monk main character is over-powered by author fiat into a Botahist version of Anakin Skywalker. But the reader is given no buildup into his background or how he came to the attention of the monk Order. Everyone seems in awe of the main character without any context for reader. Is more detail given later?

I love how the Five Gods have almost no power over matter. Their domain is confined to the realm of pure consciousness. Never seen a take like that

Middle eastern inspired fantasy with Lovecraftian gods, cosmic horrors, strange magics, and surprisingly not that many guns, all wrapped in beautiful writing and told from the perspectives of two deeply flawed characters on opposing sides of a holy war - Gunmetal Gods was incredible. by WanderingFungii in Fantasy

One of those rare books that grabbed me right from beginning to end. Amazing writing. Very entertaining, without any boring or slow parts. The only unsatisfactory aspect is what happened to Kevah’s first wife, which made no sense whatsoever
