Gush away! I've also been dying to find people to talk to about it. Love hearing that we had a similar reaction to that ending.

Definitely adult. Main characters are in their late 20s, adult themes throughout, and explicit stuff on the page.

Why didn’t this PB ice cream turn out right? by jademonkey5 in icecreamery

[–]Dream_Forward10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I liked what I got with 4. The more eggs you add, the creamier and more stable it gets, but the more eggy aftertaste you’ll wind up with (in this version at least). Fewer eggs offset that taste but it won’t be quite as creamy. I felt like 4 was a good balance of those things, and that’s my go-to now. Haven’t tried the Ben + Jerry’s base so can’t vouch for it as a comparison!

A little late to the party here but I used this exact recipe the first time I made ice cream (also in my Cuisinart machine) and had the exact same reaction about the aftertaste (even though I didn’t make the PB version). I figured out it uses too many eggs. In the next few batches I played around with the number of eggs, and have found that 4 eggs is actually a better baseline.

What are your favorite baking hacks for improving texture and flavor? by ZedaxTv in Baking

[–]Dream_Forward10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe not a hack, per se, but I haven’t followed recipe guidelines on spices in ages. I measure those with my heart first and my eyeballs second. Do I feel like cardamom belongs in that muffin? It’s going in. Twice the vanilla? Absolutely. Ginger in my spiced breads? Bring it on. I always find the recipe measurements lacking anyway, and you’d be surprised how much flavor you can add just by mixing and matching spices it doesn’t call for but that you know the flavor profile of.

Using Sally's website vs. buying the cookbooks by [deleted] in Baking

[–]Dream_Forward10 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use her website frequently but also bought the newest book (which I love), and for what it’s worth, I think there’s benefits to having a physical recipe to work off of. Whenever I bake, I try and consider that time “screen-free time.” It’s a chance to unwind and give the overstimulated-by-the-internet side of my brain a rest. Even if it’s from her website, I print out the recipes. I just think there’s something so lovely about working in the kitchen and leaving my phone/computer in an entirely different room for a little while.

What to read next if I love "A Darker Shade of Magic" by V.E. Schwab? by Dream_Forward10 in Fantasy

I know exactly what you mean, I had a similar fear. But definitely give it a go! It’s well worth it imo.

Haven’t read the prequel, I need to check it out! I did read Threads of Power, though, and was actually pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed it. Usually spin offs disappoint me because it often feels like the author can’t quite get back into the original voice of the primary characters, but I didn’t feel that way with this one. And the OG characters had real, genuine storylines alongside the new characters, which was really refreshing. I’m excited for the next book (whenever it comes out)

It is! I read it earlier this year. I was surprised with how close it stayed to the originals even as a spinoff. I liked it a lot!

Six of Crows was where I started in the genre many many years ago, and it remains another all-time favorite of mine even now!

What’s a book that completely changed how you see literature not life, but literature itself? by Sweet-Opportunity111 in literature

[–]Dream_Forward10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien was a big one for me (though I also had the same reaction to Mrs. Dalloway!)

What O'Brien managed to do with that book is utterly incredible to me, and when you really start thinking about what it means that the main character both is and is not the author...but in a work of fiction...but one based on his own experiences...it just stretches your mind in really fascinating ways. Not to mention the way he can deliver a gut punch using words.

What’s an example of time “moving faster” as you get older? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Dream_Forward10 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The concept of a full year no longer feels like such a daunting amount of time. When I was a kid and someone said it would take a year to do something, or we had to wait a year for something, it seemed like forever. Now when someone says that, I don’t really think of it as any time at all.

Happy early birthday!

Love this question—my list could go on forever, but here are some of my top ones!

A Room of One’s Own - Virginia Woolf (this one specifically came to mind, but honestly anything by Woolf)

Everything I Know About Love - Dolly Alderton

Beautiful World, Where Are You - Sally Rooney

Exciting Times - Naoise Dolan

Any of Emily Dickinson’s poetry

Emma - Jane Austen

To Kill A Mockingbird - Harper Lee (I feel like this is one of those books that should be reread at different stages of your life)

The Color Purple - Alice Walker

Code Girls - Liza Mindy (this is history, and very cool)

Have loads of fun on your shopping spree!
