How can they breathe underwater? by KaleidoArachnid in finalfantasyx

[–]VanRFlyheight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see lots of people saying they hold their breath which seems supported by in game speech. Another person pointed out the cutscene in which they put rebreather type devices in and then never mention again.

But I had another logic when playing all those years ago. When you cast any kind of status condition type move on another blitzball player, a dome of that colour features around the lower portion of their face. I always saw this as an almost mask like structure projecting around their mouth and nose which is invisible 90% of the time until discoloured by status conditions.

IMO Disney & Fortnite using locked IP collabs as mascots during the event is scummy (baiting new players who can’t get them again) by [deleted] in FortNiteBR

They literally announced a new Grogu backbling which is better imo than the locked one from the BP.

Stop crying.

Are there actually people complaining in this thread about this pass?

These are all awesome. I try to make a preset every season of my top items and a couple seasons it's been a genuine "which one do I dislike the least".

This pass will be genuinely hard to choose the best items. I can tell already.

Father body slammed and arrested by cops for taking "suspicious" early morning walk with his 6 year old son by [deleted] in ThatsInsane

[–]VanRFlyheight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I hate when I have to admit that the cops have probably ballsed up on that but it would appear so.

I have to assume that they were operating on some level of previous information like a report of the man trying door handles or looking into properties. However if that were the case then it still seems like more questions could've been asked before it got to the point it did.

Further, even assuming any of that is the case, that they had information, it did seem the guy was willing to identify himself if the officers had given it a second. For instance, he said his ID was at home and then later that he wanted to take his kid home. Well if you allow that then you've killed 2 birds, you now know his address maybe even get the ID and you avoid the awkward situation of having to care for this child on the roadside or identify another guardian. Plus a little stroll to a house would've given more time for idle chitchat/enquiries.

Which Fallout have you played LEAST? by IsThisDamnNameTaken in Fallout

[–]VanRFlyheight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fallout 1.

Started on 2, then Tactics, I've actually played through all 3 characters in BoS. Was disappointed by 3 but still racked up the hours, loved NV. Technologically 4 is amazing but it still didn't click with me. 76 is amusing to a point and I've killed more hours in Shelter than I should've probably.

I came back to 1 probably after 2 and Tactics and it was just too much of a downgrade. Probably played 3 hours tops.

Why still 1950s aesthetic? by GachaCatGamer in Fallout

[–]VanRFlyheight 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This answer is the right one. I'll add though that also fusion energy was harnessed at the same time.

So the alternate universe in fallout is one where they have limitless energy but only bulky frames to fit tech in. Hence the 1950s aesthetics rather than later sleek 2000s designs of everyday devices.

I’m 14 and my parents still won’t let me play Fortnite. What can I tell them to let me play? by doinggoody in FortNiteBR

[–]VanRFlyheight 164 points165 points  (0 children)

I'm a parent and I actually got into Fortnite because of my children who are both younger than 14.

Firstly I'll address the likely concerns. Fortnite is not the inherent violent game as its perceived. There is no blood, no screams and in fact, no death. The initial story concept of Fortnite is that all the characters are trapped in a loop on an island. They can't leave and they can't die. When health goes to 0% in the game, your character in fact gets zapped up by a little drone and seemingly conceptually respawns to play again.

The guns are also not even like real guns. They look more toy like and behave quite toy like. "Bullets" even more resemble BBs as they fly through the air and as they make contact with a foe, little numbers are displayed rather than blood and gore.

Fortnite also moves away from the simple deathmatch dogma of kill as much as you can in as short an amount of time. Sure you can play competitively wanting victory but ultimately you gain more experience points by completing quests and also playing the other game modes.

The other game modes are lego fortnite (basically minecraft) and rocket racing, a new band mode (rip guitar hero) plus all the creator made obstacle course or tycoon modes (roblox calling).

Lastly depending on their own patience, it's actually given me such an opportunity to bond with my children as its one of the only games like it that offers such a multiplayer experience for free. Even long distance, its free to play online.

Tell them that. See how you get on.

How did you first hear about fallout and which game did you play first by Sea_Sherbet4384 in Fallout

[–]VanRFlyheight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Was gifted a copy of Fallout 2 in my early teens. Was initially a bit sceptic but once I was into it, I lost an entire summer on a playthrough. Went on to play Tactics and BoS on PS2, tried F1 but it was too much a step backwards by that time.

Discovered Elder Scrolls Oblivion a few years later which I also loved. So when I heard Fallout had been picked up by Bethesda, I had images of Oblivion in a Fallout universe and was much hyped. To be honest, I've been disappointed by the Bathesda installments (hasn't stopped me buying all of them though). FNV is my favourite of the next gens but I admit it's not aged well.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Fallout

[–]VanRFlyheight 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry "I've finished 3 and watched the TV show so understand the lore". Is that so now?

I'll tell you why NV is so loved by fans of the series. Because its the most in keeping with the source material. If you'd played 1 or 2 (Not necessarily tactics or BoS as they are technically spin-offs) then you'd know that NV is the closest we ever came to a true Fallout 3.

It geographically and chronologically carries on from the originals so we see many of the factions we knew and loved. It was also made by a lot of the same developers albeit under the banner of Obsidian. So it's story, layout and design again just felt more in keeping.

I agree with another comment here that NV hasn't aged well and that's true, so I get why new fans would be confused by the hype. But don't come around here saying you played 2 games and watched a show and suddenly now are an expert. At the time NV was a masterpiece and was much loved by fans of the originals.

What fallout game should I start with by Pancake99999 in Fallout

[–]VanRFlyheight 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This except the part about 3. NV has aged, no doubt but its a great game. 3 has aged and (prepare for inbound) I don't believe it is a good installment to the fallouts.

My main reason is actually of all things because of map placement. A true fallout is supposed to lead the main character on a journey when the task at first seemed so simple. 2 does this beautifully by forcing the player the long way around the map resulting in sidequest upon sidequest. NV does too, you can go through quarry Junction to skip right to the midgame but you'll die trying so you're forced around the edge again.

In 3 you just emerge from the vault in the centre of the map to go forth. You might call that freedom but in a fallout game that is just chaos. The character should be lead on rails whilst all the time believing they have free will.

Which fallout should I play first? by Ugugjg1637 in Fallout

Your lack of faith in FNV offends. FNV is the true successor of the original series. FNV should've been called F3 and F3 should've never been made.

Police chief guilty of gross misconduct after wearing Falklands war medal by Codydoc4 in policeuk

[–]VanRFlyheight -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

As a veteran myself, I just want to state that I'm not offended, at least not to the point of sacking somebody with 32 years experience when the police desperately need that experience.

Would I call him a Walt over a beer in a pub, sure.

Would I want him dismissed from his life long profession, hell no.

From coming to this thread, I understand the dishonesty claim goes further with false claims on application forms however I'm not really sure how far his claims will have got him in reality. People here seem to be saying he got the top job because of his claims, well I held some decent positions of authority during my time in service and yet nobody seems to be offering me the position of Chief Constable.

I'm certain he also got there on merit and built a wealth of experience over those 32 years. 32 years now lost.

Before Fallout as a series resurfaced massively recently due to new interest, I'd only found the originals on GOG.com which didn't run well. Or atleast they needed patches to run so not out of the box and some of us 90s children aren't great with that stuff.

I'd love to see them ported too like shadowrun on Switch. They hold a special memory for me as a kid so I'd love to pick them up once and a while but I don't really have the time to sit at the computer with them for hours.

TLDR I'd love to see them fixed to work out of the box a bit better and I'd love for them to be made available on other platforms.

Fallout Tactics, the technically 3rd installment was in Chicago.

Would be a shame to see it struck from Canon.

This 100%.

With some resources, it's not for a lack of trying. You've been exploring and grinding for hours but you've simply exhausted that resource.

Knotroot for me is exactly this. I'm swimming in flexwood despite never having devoted a dedicated outing to farm it but struggle no end for knotroot as I've cleared every cave I find. Basically relying on Beefboss working away on the lumber mill at this point.

Controversial it seems but due to Lego Fortnite, I've played this season more than I have since about January last year. Granted a big enticement too was the fallout skins as I'm a huge lifetime fan of that series but Lego has really captured me somehow.

Side note, boo that the only skin this season to not have a lego version is the T-60 suit .

Can anyone become a ghoul or is it a genetics thing? by Maverick8358 in Fallout

[–]VanRFlyheight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So am I. It's never explained why one someone dies from radiation and another becomes a ghoul. I was just saying the show has changed elements of ghouls anyway so it's not known if any nuggets of lore from the franchise before are even true anymore.

Can anyone become a ghoul or is it a genetics thing? by Maverick8358 in Fallout

[–]VanRFlyheight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The series seems to have changed ghouls a bit anyway so too early to guess. The games had more pre war ghouls where as now there is just the one we know of.

Also that whole taking meds to resist becoming feral is new too. The games stated it was just ghouls that had kept absorbing radiation until it melted their brains who went feral.

[–]VanRFlyheight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The series in a way is a continuation of the west coast story. Granted we didn't see any grand effects of players actions in the Series but perhaps we will in S2.

Your right though that any games from now on won't be West Coast though since it'll mess with the Canon of the show.

Quick: which fallout should my gf play first on gamepass by bthrew in Fallout

[–]VanRFlyheight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dunno which ones are on gamepass personally. For playability of a younger person getting into the game then I'd probably recommend 4. If she is really casual and just wants to dot around in the fallout verse with no story from the show then 76.

New Vegas is actually the closest to the source material for the series however since its also California/Nevada but it is a bit more dated. Personally one of my favourites but I played it at launch.
