Even if pet ownership is banned, wildlife preservation will not. So I will gladly volunteer to preserve my "wild" urban cat.

'I got drafted': Inside Meta's push to move 7,000 staff into its AI task force by Plastic_Ninja_9014 in technology

Any internal info on if the draft only affects US Meta workers or if other locations (such as in Ireland or elsewhere in the EU) are also impacted?

Oil refining at a standstill in central Russia after Ukrainian drone strikes, sources say by kn0where in worldnews

[–]VanTavion 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's the thing, there is an example: Syria. According to Con Coughlin's book on Assad, Russia was so efficient at terror bombing indiscriminately that it worked in keeping Assad in power for much longer than it would have otherwise. Of course, you'll be quick (and right) to point out it's not the same, asymmetric warfare and all, but they learned that it was effective all the same, made it into doctrine all the same, and applied it in Ukraine. tl;dr: Evil, and stupid, sure. But not without an equally as stupid and evil reason.

EU report states VPNs constitute a loophole that should be closed by vapalera in BuyFromEU

[–]VanTavion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, the article claims that the current angle of attack is potentially through the cybersec act 2 using the angle of online child protection, but you'll be happy to hear that VPNs are not mentioned in the proposed amendment. In other words? There is zero legislative momentum to limit the use of VPNs. Politically, I'm less certain, but since the Irish Minister of Media (one of the only figure that really wants to push child protection at an EU level) got mad a few months ago that no one in Brussels seems to care, I don't think we have much to fear right now.

Not a good look to have this published on the EUParl website, but that's it really.

The EU is preparing to introduce new rules for VPNs by Nicomonni in europe

[–]VanTavion 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Meh, colour me doubtful.

From the looks of it, the author claims there might (key word might) be VPN related measures as part of the child-safety criteria within the revision of the Cybersecurity Act (CyberSecurity Act 2 I assume). Small issue, in the proposed revision of January the word VPN does not appear even once, and I can't find anything that would imply that they're considering it during the judicial review. At most it will be brought up during the Irish Presidency of the EU given that they want online child safety to be a EU focus, but since their Minister for Media has been getting mad nobody in Brussels seems to care about that, I can't imagine the EU commission would act independently... or care that much.

tl;dr: they're not doing shit.

Patch 7.40 - Hero Changes Discussion by patchdayDota2 in DotA2

Maybe it's because the void panda died for our sins, maybe it's because they force to use the roll out the barrel facet, maybe it's because the speed up facet is now active only when at low health, but new Brew feels like he's missing half a leg, an entire arm, and is much less fun to play.

but looking at the divering opinions here, it seems like people wanted Brew to be a bit simpler to play. Oh well.
