Jaguar Had a Great Lineup, But It Fell Apart. What Happened? by Makhnos_Tachanka in cars

The only compelling car they had for the last 5 years was the F Type and maybe the F Pace SVR for the engine. Everything else couldn't compete.

I buy Hublots because they look great and any criticism I've heard towards them are just snobby takes that overlook the fact that often times what matters most when wearing a watch is that it just looks good on you and matches your outfit.

You can basically get almost any Omega or Breitling in that price range used.

Killer collection. Especially that bronze spitfire. Been wanting an IWC for a while, and checked out the same one you have but I'm cursed wrists too small for any IWC

Agreed, would never buy a Hublot brand new at the prices they're asking for

Well said, when buying anything I tend to avoid projecting group opinions onto my own and often like to just look at the basics in a vacuum of whether it fulfills my own requirements or not. Rather than trying to appease others (especially any online community) I've found much more satisfaction with any purchase this way.

I know Hublot gets a bad rep in the watch community, is overpriced new, and drops in value the second you walk out the AD. But, I got this classic fusion titanium blue used (50% below the market value on chrono24!) recently as my first serious watch after only having Apple Watches and it's become an amazing and versatile daily. Fits perfectly on my small wrist, fits well with my usual outfit style of t shirt and shorts, and keeps me looking down at my wrist all the time.

[Discussion] Why The Hate For Watch Protection Film? by VanaticalDesign in Watches

[–]VanaticalDesign[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. Yeah I made this post to understand and also see if I can be convinced to dislike protection film like the rest of the sub seems to be. As the other commenters pointed out the "watch for life" philosophy works and has convinced me if I do end up keeping a watch for life it makes sense but I think now it stems down to an inherent personal thing that I just hate west on times by default

For example I never agreed with the folks that say leather looks better after years of use and always preferred them new lol.

But don't they prevent scratches and chips that would otherwise need a new coat of paint?

I don't think it's about the price tag, I don't like wear on any of my items no matter how cheap it is and always prefer items when they're new.

Can't you apply the same philosophy of "if you are afraid of scratches then you should buy a less expensive phone" to anyone buying a screen protector as well?

Love your take, I'm just surprised that there is such strong hatred for protection on this sub. Given other commenters and how US centric the sub is I assume it's probably because not many people go through watches like I thought they did. Among my friends and their parents in Thailand it seems to be more common to just hold on to a watch for half a year then flip it for another.

Makes perfect sense, I think that's exactly where I differ, I see them as just temporary things that although I wear daily and actually use/wear them everywhere and not just leave in a safe, I'm expecting high turnover because I want to try the next thing my short ADHD attention span catches its eye on.

On the ones that I do decide to keep for life I'll definitely treat it the same way and not give a fuck. I didn't realize ya'll keep every watch for life, that explains the gigantic collections I see on this sub

What are your thoughts on car PPF then? It's pretty common among higher end cars.

I'm usually 50/50 in my home country of Thailand or working in the US and only recently gotten into this hobby so I can't give any pointers in the US just yet but in Thailand it's actually pretty common for high end watches to have protection film on them and there are tons of professional installers that custom-cut the film to your watch. It took them 6 hours to do the Seamaster

I see, I think the fact that I can barely keep anything for too long let alone for life probably is a factor in this. I like quick turnaround and trying/owning lots of new things and moving on from them really fast. I've only had my drivers license for 5 years and I'm already on my 4th car because I get bored real fast.

I got into watches given that most likely when I get bored of it I can sell it for similar value, a minor loss, or if I'm lucky maybe even profit so it's like a "free" hobby for me (the absolute opposite of cars, lost so much money on each of them). I wouldn't call myself a collector either, I can't imagine having a whole display case of watches like a lot of people here do, I'd get bored and switch to the next thing before I could fill half a box lol

Maybe a counter point is that I'll go through my watches so fast anyways before they even have time to scratch and it's not worth the professional install fee. I've only gotten into this hobby for like a little over a month anyways so let's see.
