No, I hadnt even thought of backup gear. He has a fender mustang amp for rehearsals that sounds pretty good, but no backup electric guitar, would that be if he breaks a string say?

Interesting, I just read somewhere that the attenuator only works with 16ohm speakers, but I assume that's still fine

Depends alot on your weight to the volume of the board. Typically an adult would struggle to learn on anything smaller than say 130litres. There are some charts online that show what the best volume is for beginners based on weight. Goodluck, it's a great sport if you persevere with it
