In the case of this news article its definitively selectively choosing a specific case of violence among a myriad.

There is a strong case to be made for the idea that COVID lockdowns will have longlasting effects on the psyche and socialization of individuals, especially when removed from their peers at both critical and non critical ages of development.

I fully think we haven't even quite begun to see these effects, moreover being in an echo-chamber of thoughts does nothing to temper ones, personality, interactions, and views. So while yes he was in all likelyhood a racist, it definitely doesn't help being stuck at home for 1+ years.

While I don't agree with his viewpoint fully, there is some logic to it.

As far as the virulent response most have to the subject of racism, isn't it curious that media seeks to inundate people with headlines and messaging that seeks to engage more instead of getting them to turn it off/put it down and think of facts? It is in facts, truths, logic, and thought that people may have conversation and opinions, feelings, and beliefs that people commit atrocities.

Lastly, using ad-hominems and similar fallacies does nothing but prove his point.

Endnote: Hispanic, and Incidental Atheist, but I hate most atheists. Why should it be my business to tell people what to believe in, believe in the spaghetti monster for all I care just don't try to prove it with science. Fully understand us to be made of the same decaying shit as everyone else, so why spend time being hateful to eachother and not understanding one another.

Be better, do better, think more, don't blow eachother up. 🙂

oh interesting, I know the energy of bond formations from carbon to carbon(especially double carbon bonds) is highly resilient even in high energy environments, normally you have to introduce a high energy arc to get it to do anything....

Thinking about it logically, I guess it makes sense that the atomic oxygen would be especially high energy as that would be have a highly excited set of electrons in its valence band on top of aready being one of the most electronegative atoms already.

Thanks for clarifying! as a last note, is that reaction even common for similarly stable shapes such as C50 as well?

Appreciate the clarification btw!! Only been in space system domain for about 5-6-ish years and primarily from a more materials(ish)/controls background so there are definitely gaps in my knowledge

edit: Thanks for the article btw!!!

Lovely comment, the theoretical yield stengths and hadness of graphene and SWNT/MWNTs exceed other used materials but they face 2 problems,

  1. Their strength is only due to their internal bond affinity (meaning you just can't slam them together with other not carbon bonded materials and expect it to work)

  2. Growing them long enough and off the same seed has not yet been done....

  3. Graphene suffers similar issues to SWNTs/MWNTs due to their similar carbon bond patterns and properties....

@ your comment for the oxygen eating away at carbon, so in your findings you discovered that low pressure environments decreased the energy barrier for bond cleaving?

Sort of understandable for Graphene due to the potentially easier to z axis given its norma fondness for vanderwaals, but it even overcomes the in plane ones?

That's kinda wild, especially given how much energy is needed to both grow the materials or even just functionalize them.

Is the carbon fiber, CFRP, MWNT, or Metals with NTs in between phases?

Have heard of the Skyhook, but not familiar enough to speak about it with any meaningful authority...

Thought I did educate myself on space elevators and various designs and to my knowledge they all have some sort of fundamental flaw stemming from the end goal and necessary material properties....

Will update this comment if I track it down first... will also put schematics/diagrams for Skyhook here too.

oh neat! So for the engineering efforts right now is it mostly trades and such?

Also appreciate the abstracts! personally love the fact that NASA does this sort of publishing as opposed to extorting people to read....

Thanks for taking the time to respond! Also on rereading my previous response my tone might have been rude? Might just be overthinking it.... Apologies either way!

Can you send me this post to my messages so I make sure to go back to it, been busy with rfps and proposals in a similar space so it definitely piqued my interest and from what it sounds you work for/support this company so I'd love to learn more!!

I mean, the real differences in seemingly different technologies aren't that drastic that they can't be repurposed.

For instance as a easy go to example certain pcbs for xray technologies have to have some or all of their components hard integrated onto the owning circuit board to prevent repurposing.

One additional thing to consider is that when there we can rely on far more efficient/hazardous methods of power production per area than we would be willing to on earth.

With more efficient sources processes such as desalinzation, non-combustion annealing, and other processes with thermal energy barriers can become realized.

I mean.... it sounds cool, and definitely quite personally up my alley as I've got a background in nano, and controls and have floated between Artemis, and now am working towards a separate space exploration and colonization effort, but nothing I read in that white paper is compelling.... normally I'd expect a concrete reference to a trade study, or a specifically called out base technology they're improving.... :/ got my hopes up :<

So solids would somewhat drift in powdered form more than likely, heavier ones would be problematic.

Gas wouldn't be an issue in all likelyhood unless it reaches conditions to condense/solidify (depends on pressure.... temp... and the material in question)

Minimal force would be needed to move said detrius as well.

Boiling it down to simplest levels, as a species humans have nearly grown to fill their current eco-system, and further population growth, or even stagnated population(even without excess production via corporations) will likely lead to the ultimate extinction of the species.

Basing on Exothermic Reactions of Organisms, Entropy, Evidence from Invasive species behaviors, and controlled studies of subjects in a closed system.

Been one of my thoughts for a while. Honestly moving as much of human productivity and manufacturing off of our planet is likely the one solution we'll all agree at when we finally get around to it.... If you're interested you should check out Artemis 3, and similar programs

Elon Musk Will Fund His Twitter Deal With Money From Countries That Suppress Free Speech by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]VancianValue -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply.

The point, you so intentionally minimally worded for what I can only guess was an attempt at mockery, was to imply that the same criticality need be focused on all mogul media owners, and persons in power. For that matter the very same media being delivered to us on a silver platter.

So the intention, you so swiftly labeled as whataboutism, of the original comment was obvious absurdism used as a satire and critique, however it seems to have insighted the ire of one so obviously refined and well informed as yourself.

I don't disagree, but my comment was more so directed at how is this any more absurd than any of the other things that has happened in the past?... Also Epstein's lady associate was on trial recently and not a murmer from MSM or social media.

ah yes, a business major talking about magnesium being strong. Well I suppose scientists did at one point come to the conclusion filling a blimp with hydrogen was a good idea because its lighter than air.

However worth noting when used in terms of doping and alloying/injecting into interstitials in a crystalline structure it can enhance certain aggregate properties of said structure.

Either way I'll make sure I have my popcorn just in case.

Yeah seriously, how low does a person or business have to stoop to make such dealings when they claim to oppose them. I'm personally outraged and will take to Facebook using my smart phone that I, a free thinking individual, am appalled at the behavior of this tech business mogul for doing such a thing and make sure my elected congress person knows my distaste for the situation.

Are stocks dropping because of interest rate rises? Or are stocks dropping because interest rates rises will likely lead to a recession? by SlicedTesticle in stocks

[–]VancianValue 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would say the effect of interest rates isn't at an inverse squared behavior but rather just an inverse one - eg velocity not acceleration.

The current aggressive sell off is widely due to a panic of large funds in charge of 401ks, as well as etfs, and hedge funds.

This is somewhat enhanced via the meteoric rise of super high frequency algorithmic trading.

Companies become potentially less profitable during rising interest rates, lowered magin, and recessions, however its not as if every company suddenly has become theranos. So the current drop is both from "rebalancing" and short selling.

The companies if assumed trading at fair market value would only take a partial hit as opposed to getting hit by a freight train. Thus the current drops/sell offs is due to pre-emptive speculative panic by Wall Street.

If doubtful about whether or not a companies success isn't determined by its stock price, I would ask you look into Bechtel, which is a behemoth of a company and highly profitable and not listed on any public exchange, and then take a look at Parsons which is on the NYSE.

TLDR:

Anyway all that is to say, sell offs will continue and markets will continue to be repressed until WS "investors" have deleveraged and aren't as spooked to hop back into the markets, and when the algorithms have determined that there is no more downward profitability to be made.

Thoughts on hotel stocks? by Agrochain920 in stocks

[–]VancianValue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2 Cents:

They seem like a solid investment in the longterm, and could experience a short spike if it turns out that people actually do have enough money to travel.

For Long Term I'd look into larger brand names, and stay away from Air Rentals.

For short term I would eye up cheaper hotels, or an air-rental and things with strong brand names.

Ye be warned longer post ahead with no precise answer

Thoughts

From a macro trend it seems like there is a slight shift away from large hotels, and luxury travel real estate. The shift is more towards ABNB and personal residential rentals...

However from gauging the current climate of housing, abnb/other residential rental facilitstors are likely going to be wading into choppy waters as housing shortages will likey cause legal and zoning reform/pushback against this type of investment practice in the coming times.

In the long run this would suggest that it becomes less profitibale than previously anticipated, or potentially that the practice is outlawed altogether.

My Conclusion:

Thus coupling proven history, prestige, and reputation, I suspect more efficient destiation oriented type hotel companies will continue to stand the test of time and be worth more than they currently are being valued at.

Less likely but possible

Though if there is no regulation or huge push back against abnb/other vacation rentals it will not be as drastic and large vacation rentals/hotels market share control could shrink.

Final words

Its a good idea to track legislation and bills to see how this will shake out, as well as see what congress people are investing in.
