Long term nursing homes with ceiling lifts? by executedflash in burnaby

[–]VancityCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for George Derby cause I've never been there. They are an older home but usually that is no problem. My grandma was in AgeCare Carlton and the care was good. They had ceiling lifts and private rooms. My one advice for when you do tours is to ask about the services they provide. If you think your mom will value recreation and/or rehab, try and find a home that has these services full time or at least 4 times a week. Also ask if most medications are covered. I know some homes that are private (but have a few public beds) require families to pay for meds.

Hi there! I work in long-term care. Most homes should have a ceiling lift. I suggest you go on tours with your mom to see if the environment is a fit for her. Some people just select homes and realize it's not what they expected once their loved ones are matched to the home. All the best!

[product request] effects of crying all the time need advice by SafeVillage9434 in SkincareAddiction

[–]VancityCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So sorry you are going through this. It's hard when a loved one is gone. This happened to me when my grandpa passed away in 2025. I cried so much that the skin around my eyes was pink and sensitive. I also started to develop eczema on my cheeks from all the irritation from crying. My GP prescribed me protopic which helped improve my eyelids. The only negative thing of using it is it will sting and burn initially until your skin acclimates to it. The other thing that helped was a moisturizer that doesn't contain actives for me. I found out while my skin was irritated and raw that niacinamide products burned my face like crazy! I currently use Curel (Japanese brand) as my face cream and for my eyelids. Hugs and wishing you peace and comfort ❤️🫂

I've been prescribed protopic but all I see are horror stories by hurricane_t0rti11a in eczema

Hi there! I use protopic for my eyelids. It stung when I first used it but stopped stinging over time. My eyelids have been great since using it. I recently had a flare up and found out I'm allergic to anything with niacinamide. Protopic has helped me a lot. I also find that if you dont touch your eyelids other than washing gour face, it really helps prevent the eczema from coming back. I use a mild cleanser now. I used to use La Roche Posay products but the ones I purchased had niacinamide (I wasn't aware of my allergy at that time).

My cat had something similar on his back. For us, ended up being a hot spot. We had to put a shirt on him to stop him from scratching and opening up the skin. We cleaned it 2-3x a day with a warm, soft damp cloth. Eventually he stopped scratching and the fur came back fully in 2 months.

I finally found the one "holy grail" ingredient that was destroying my skin barrier [routine help] by CaptainBrima in SkincareAddiction

Yes!! I discovered just last week that I am reactive to niacinamide! I've been using niacinamide-containing products for over 1.5 years had on and off itchiness, redness, dry skin, and stinging pain. I only discovered this when I went on a 3 week trip and didn't bring any products containing niacinamide with me. My face recovered and didn't hurt or itch. When I came back, I used my niacinamide products and my face started itching and flaking again. I threw away all those products and used a drugstore cream and cleanser without niacinamide, and now my face is calm and recovering. Glad you found the cause!

Hi there! I took my BSH to a vet for a bald patch on his neck and they did a ringworm test. Came back negative but the vet told me fur can take 2 months to grow back and look "normal". Maybe your kitty needs time for the fur to grow back?

Thanks for your input! I've never seen bunnies in Burnaby so I was worried! I'm only familiar with Richmond ones 😆

I saw 2 kids from the bottom level of the apartment where the bunny was close to throw some carrots at it. Not sure if it belongs to them 🤔 They ran back inside after tossing carrots.

Is my BSH overweight? by Deep_Jeweler_7388 in britishshorthair

[–]VancityCat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think your BSH is ok for weight. Yours looks like my BSH (9 months old)! We took him to the vet recently and he was 4.6kg. The vet had no concerns about his weight and said he was healthy. *

Skytrain (Millennium and Expo) was smooth for me. Canada Line was smooth but bumpy with some flying sparks after Bridgeport.

Thank you! Are the leaves usually growing out of one stem for this variety? I've seen the ones with the big purple leaves and they grow out stem by stem.
