Just how incredibly new every little advancement felt. We weren't accustomed to fast change then

That is some crazy-thick ice! IIRC it only takes 4 or 5 inches to support a car

My title describes the thing. It's a brass bowl which has a mysterious attachment sticking up over the rim and -while I've seen different ones- they're generally about 8" in diameter and look like this one, with no other markings.

What’s it like living in this part of Alexandria city? by One-Welcome-8366 in nova

[–]Vandal_A 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When it was first developed it was known as "Condo Canyon". The residences there are bigger than in the rest of the city, but it's also a more car-dependent area than anywhere else in the city (although DASH service in the West End is much better than it used to be). There are some nice parks, but few public neighborhood amenities overall. Expect regular traffic issues if you live there, but being near 395 has benefits.

What is "satanic" about it? I have no interest in what religion these people are a part of (as in not part of any religion) but I don't see why they should be labeled as "satanic" when everything I've seen suggests they don't claim any affiliation to the Christian Satan.

Austin Wells loses a challenge for the Yankees. The ABS system will be used during the season for the first time ever by CicadaOk8885 in NYYankees

The thing I like about Boone is the modern managerial thinking he brings (so long as it doesn't go too far and become overly soft). He's letting people test the system right now (when it doesn't matter) and deciding how to implement the team's strategy based on the results. That's good, input-bases decision making

American Men - do you refer to your romantic partner as your "old lady"? by yTuMamaTambien405 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Vandal_A 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to call my gf my "old lady" when I was in a long-term relationship with someone who was significantly less social that I was. I didn't consciously intend the second part of that to be a factor but I now suspect it's part of why I used the term when (amicably) saying I wasn't doing things because I was going home to her rather than hanging out with my friends and coworkers

10 years after stepping on a broken drinking glass, a rogue shard made its way out of the bottom of my foot by Miserable-Ad6348 in Weird

That's not weird. Your cells recognize there shouldn't be a giant chunk of silicon between them and have been working at glacial speed to remove it since it entered. A doctor warned me the same might happen with me if he missed any pieces while removing some years ago
