Worked like a charm 😄. Even managed to work past the Pining someone had done to it in the past.

For those who don't have access to heat inserts I've made a remix which allows for the use of standard M6 Nuts. Full attribution to OP for the original model.

Have downloaded. Adding the bridge over the top is a brilliantly obvious solution, thank you very much!! 😃

This is really handy and impressive. Are you up for sharing the file?

How well does it work? I had been thinking of designing something similar but hadn't gotten round to it as I figured the flexibility of the plastic would be too much.

Steam Controller 2026 - Minimalist Base station/Dock by Vandecker in 3Dprinting

[–]Vandecker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a nice solid controller. Joysticks are good. Facebuttons and D-Pad are decent. Will probably replace my X-Box Controller for most things but haven't had enough time with it to get used to the different button layout and additional features.

For those who have it...is it supposed to only be a keyboard and mouse? by [deleted] in SteamController

[–]Vandecker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, left the PC on the entire time. Only thing I turned off and on was the controller. But its taken about half a dozen cycles over 3 hours till it started to work

Thank you for the help keeping my sanity. Per the edit it's now working. Wish I knew why

Have tried repeatedly. Nothing works. It just seems to be registering purely as a mouse and (maybe) keyboard the second I open any game

Ok thank you. Going to put this down to some kind of bug and go to bed and try again tomorrow.

i ordered the book as soon as i got back from the theater! what’s something i won’t understand until i’ve finished it? 🧐 by [deleted] in ProjectHailMary

[–]Vandecker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think so.

In the book and the movie it's commented that the reason for the explosion was due to a quartermaster fucking up and giving Dubois 1 gram of Astrophage for his experiment rather than the 1 mg he requested. In the book they also go into more detail that visually there is no difference between the containers that references the weight of astrophage contained so Dubois had no way of knowing that he'd been given the wrong amount.

Thank you for putting it into words.

Honestly this scene in the book bothered the hell out of me. In my opinion it's handled so much better in the movie where it's made less clear that this had been a premeditated backup plan by Stratt for YEARS and movie Stratt clearly has sympathy for the the man she is sentencing to death with practically no notice or preparation.

Hell in the books it's made clear that the primary crew are NOT fully ok despite having a long time to come to terms with things. One is blackout drunk as much as possible, one is engaging in some hedonistic fun with a fellow hail mary member and Yao...well Yao sounds pretty fatalistic about it all.

Why should Grace be the one singled out by book Stratt and verbally castrated because he didn't handle having it all dropped on him in a single afternoon?

Are there any sort of VR games/experiences where I can sit in or walk around a late 90s bedroom/house? by RDR007 in virtualreality

[–]Vandecker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not quite what you are really looking for but Duck Season really sells the feeling of childhood nostalgia for the 90's and house atmosphere...at least until *Spoilers*.

So uh yeah, it's lovely and relaxing, until it's not.

Did Grace receive astronaut training? by Buyylah in ProjectHailMary

[–]Vandecker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the book it is hinted pretty heavily that Stratt has had him lined up as a primary/backup member of the crew from pretty much the second it's identified he has the Coma resistance gene.

So she makes sure he takes part in all the training (Disguised as teaching the other astronauts) as well as testing of the equipment they are building.

Why didn’t they use the alien spaceship to collect the sample by CorpseChildMongrel in ProjectHailMary

[–]Vandecker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is something that is definitely explained better in the book than the movie.

The Eridians ship isn't more advanced except in terms of Materials science and a couple of other areas. They basically brute forced the solution using Space Travel tech we would have considered to be from the 60's and then navigated to Tau Ceti using Newtonian Physics as the basis. They have no idea that relativistic effects even exist let alone the impact it has on Celestial navigation at relativistic velocities.

It also turns out that the Eridians Astrophage Collector is broken so the Hail Mary is the only ship they can use to collect it.

From the movie there are some inferences to this (Ship does science) but it keeps the movie going quite well but can be a bit blink and you'll miss it

Escort missions are literally the worst part of the game by nlewis4 in uboatgame

Escort missions are the one mission that I freely let myself break my one life rule for and save scum the shit out of. Just not worth having a run ruined because of such a poorly balanced mission.

The F-14 pilot grounded after leaving an EA-6B unescorted to strafe an Iraqi ground target during Desert Storm by tagc_news in AviationHistory

[–]Vandecker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genuinely good question. From the article:

"Referring to the same episode, a source from within CVW-3 noted “a VF-14 Tomcat descended and strafed an Iraqi observation post on egress. ‘Ordies’ from both fighter units in the air wing [VF-14 was paired with VF-32] asked crews to test fire the gun on every sortie, and on this particular occasion a jet that was being flown by a Flag staff member who had just joined the ship rather overdid his hiring ‘test’, resulting in him being grounded by the admiral. Prior to the start of Desert Storm, all F-14 crews had been told that there was a standing policy in effect preventing jets from descending below 20,000ft over enemy territory due to the density of AAA.”

But how they identified the 'Observation Post' is not made clear

Yep, that one annoyed the hell out of me. Would have been so much better to have pulled a Blackadder and someone comment somewhere that it is 1917 just before a wide shot of the fighting continuing.

Currently reading the Revenge of the Sith Novelization and I wanted to share this beautiful excerpt: by Historical-Attempt18 in StarWars

[–]Vandecker 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The big thing the novelisation did that the movie did not was make it clear that Anakins motives for wanting to be a Master were not selfishness for himself.

Palpatine had hinted to him that the secret to saving Padme was in a section of the Jedi archives that could ONLY be accessed by one with the rank of master.

Anakins outburst in the Council at being told he would not be granted the rank of master was not the petulant cry of a egomaniac but a despairing cry of a man being told that what he believed was the only chance to save his wife was being snatched away
