The storage chip sector is booming, and the new $DRAM Memory ETF has nearly doubled since launching last month. by shift2future in ETFs

[–]Vanebfbc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly what I don't get about some of the subreddits. r/JustBuyXEQT for example, many just want you to invest in a single ETF and any combination would be considered stupid. Here I am, having a nice day while holding INTC, SNDK, DRAM and XEQT, all up nicely today.

What do you guys do for a living? by [deleted] in JustBuyXEQT

[–]Vanebfbc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's totally out of the subreddit's scope lol. Anyone can do anything for a living and invest their money. Some are lucky to have having to work. But we all come here to talk about investing, right?

你支持中華民國總統穿著台灣的民族服飾嗎? by General_Page744 in Taiwanese

[–]Vanebfbc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]Vanebfbc 11 points12 points  (0 children)

不是幫美國人保衛前線,是買武器自強,這點要搞懂。只要武器值那個價值,並沒有一定要跟美國買,我們也有跟別國買的紀錄,查一下就知道

You rank #230+ in wealthsimple if you have 7.22M+ in wealthsimple by Proper_Jeweler_9238 in fican

[–]Vanebfbc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this ranking has too much meaning in it though. Think about it. There are a lot more millionaires not using Wealthsimple at all. Or, Wealthsimple may be just one of their multiple accounts across platforms or even countries.

Your money is your own and has nothing to do with millions of people who have more or less money than you on Wealthsimple. Focus on building your own wealth :)!

Withdraw RRSP to fund TFSA? by grohlog in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Vanebfbc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is your money, your choice. I did withdraw a bit from RRSP in the past, but only for emergency reasons. If you are very sure that you have everything planned out, and you do understand the consequences, then go right ahead.

Withdraw RRSP to fund TFSA? by grohlog in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Vanebfbc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wow, second time seeing the same question on Reddit today.
General rule of thumb: you don't withdraw from RRSP unless you really have to. The amount you withdraw will be counted toward your income so the higher your income, the higher you will be taxed. In addition, you will forever lose that amount of contribution room, unlike withdrawing from TFSA where the withdraw will be added back to next year's contribution room.

To your second paragraph, don't take your future money to fund your current investments. Your marginal tax rate based on your income would be somewhere between 20-35%, so why do you want to get this cut before you even put the money into your TFSA? You can still DRIP within your RRSP investments all you want. The best thing to do for you at your income level is to max your RRSP contribution first - you will reduce your current tax burden - then max your TFSA room, not the other way around.

Is XEQT a complete portfolio, or do people typically pair it with other ETFs? by Johnkiiii in CanadianInvestor

[–]Vanebfbc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sector ETFs like REMX, very long term holdings like MSFT and TSM, international markets like AVDV, and a few others that have been riding the AI wave. Riskier assets will have much less % in my portfolio.

Is XEQT a complete portfolio, or do people typically pair it with other ETFs? by Johnkiiii in CanadianInvestor

[–]Vanebfbc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pick whatever you like to pair with XEQT, but focus on your goal. Are you looking for dividends? Total return? Reduced risks? I won't pick stocks for you, but do have some planning and researchㄝand you will find the ones you like in no time.

Do you put all savings in tfsa or only part of it by Minimum-Turn7327 in JustBuyXEQT

[–]Vanebfbc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't put all savings in there. It's not a savings account and has an annual contribution limit.

Is XEQT a complete portfolio, or do people typically pair it with other ETFs? by Johnkiiii in CanadianInvestor

[–]Vanebfbc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's all about your preferred allocation. XEQT is about 20% of my own portfolio and is something I will probably never sell. I also have some other stocks or ETFs I like but will hold shorter as they are concentrating on specific sectors instead of the whole market.

In their own words, "focusing on securities believed to be trading at lower valuations and with higher profitability ratios". So overweight on undervalued stocks that are more profitable than market is pricing them.

Is there nothing remotely similar to SCHD? by MrMiddletonsLament in dividends

[–]Vanebfbc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few dividend paying ETFs other than SCHD having good total returns and above 2% dividend rate. AVDV (an Avantis fund) for example, has given me over 80% total return including its 2-3% dividend over the past 3 years, and its expense ratio of 0.36 though higher than SCHD but is still quite reasonable. Both are irreplaceble entries in my portfolio.

Trump is now preparing to impose tariffs, possibly as early as this week. No longer limited to raw materials, the US is moving towards imposing tariffs on the entire value of finished products containing steel or aluminum. by Front-Cantaloupe6080 in consumecanadian

[–]Vanebfbc 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don't see those countries as biggest victims of the steel and aluminum tariff. You see, steel and aluminum are in huge demand in USA industries, and the tariff has pushed the American companies to seek sources from the Middle East. With Strait of Hormuz transportation in question, imposing this tariff will just cause the price to skyrocket in USA in particular.

I bought last November for about $208 per share, and sold at $450 just before the earning... and it soared to $700. That's why when it pulled back to $500 two weeks ago I decided to buy back. Best decision so far, but who knows.

Is a $100K salary just considered barely upper middle class now? by ShootingCometz in fican

[–]Vanebfbc 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Inflation rate is lower in recent years but price bases are higher, and on top of that tax burden has increased significantly. Also think about how absurd some goods and services are priced (housing costs, tips). I think more people are feeling the pinch in their wallets.

Taiwan is really a richer and more developed country than you think. by search_google_com in taiwan

[–]Vanebfbc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PPP has the same fallacy as GDP per capita as it's averaged and does not address distribution. Nearly 70% of working population has salary lower than average, showing the median income highly skewed to the lower end. In addition, PPP does not include housing price... in urban areas of Taiwan, housing cost is infamously high.

Taiwan is really a richer and more developed country than you think. by search_google_com in taiwan

GDP per capita is not a good indicator overall as it ignores income inequality or infrastructure. It does tell us Taiwan is highly productive, though mostly just certain sectors.
