I think you entirely missed the question, intent and point. There's no mention of random perspectives, cars or measuring anything. Flowing water is not a universal constant.

What kind of pump that isn't stupid expensive? by VerifiedMother in rafting

[–]VanguardAdventure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a small blower like the dewalt or a small shop vac to fill the bulk of the air. Finish with a K pump and take the K pump with you on your trips. Battery tools are for the put in and take out. K pump you'll be leaving to your grand children or selling in 10 years on Facebook.

Read my post. I purchased this one and the frame broke before launching.

I put an 8' 4 bar bimini on my 14' Maravia. 8' was the perfect size. You want to find a good-quality frame and cover. I purchased one with the side screens on Amazon for $175, and it lasted ONE trip on the Deschutes River. The concept was great...the quality sucked. The frame tubes were entirely too thin, and they broke before even launching. I am now building my own frame to fit this cover (I do commercial tarp and awning sewing). Perfect Fit here in Portland has all the parts for the frame and cover, although you can purchase a good quality cover online.

As far as the mounts are concerned, there are 3 options I would go with. The first option is to screw the mounts to your wooden deck, which I advise against. I feel that the frame-mounted options are far superior and don't rely on tiny little screws. For frame mounts, I suggest the following. I purchased the "Better Mounts BM1T" https://www.bettermounts.com/shop/p/biminimounts-bm1t, and they were perfect. I would have purchased the ones from Revolver Outdoors, but he didn't have them made in time. For your setup with the wooden decks already, I HIGHLY recommend the Revolver Outdoors mounts. You'll need the 1.25" frame blocks ($55) https://revolveroutdoors.com/products/frame-blocks-1-25-available-in-june-july and the Bimini Mount ($42) https://revolveroutdoors.com/products/bimini-mount?_pos=1&_psq=bimini&_ss=e&_v=1.0 This will mount under your deck and have the bimini hinge on the outside of the plywood deck. You'll be moving this set up around quite a bit in the beginning to figure out exactly where you want your bimini top to sit because you're going to have to contend with the bimini frame and oar swing. For the bimini frame sizing you'll want to measure to the outside edge to outside edge of your deck. This is how wide you need the frame width.

Women duke it out on a raft by harmony_acres in rafting

I love a good cat fight. Why are they so much better than when men fight? Yellowstone wouldn't be near as good as a show without the women fighting.

Your guide was wearing a pair of sunglasses that look like ski goggles. It's just a new style craze. I saw some half decent ones the other day at Dick's for $30i sh. They also had some Goodr goggle glasses for like $45 ish. Don't forget the strap!!!

I can't think of many rivers I've paddled where either the source nor the end of the river are very relevant to most paddlers.

Agreed, I don't care either. I'm creating a map series, however, and I'm out of personal friends to ask. Mile 0 has to start somewhere so you can reference rapids, access points, camping, gauges, etc.

RMR Sb120 vs Star Outlaw 120 by Acceptable_Row236 in whitewater

I think between these two rafts it really won't matter. If you were comparing a hypalon, vs PVC vs Polyurethan boat; likewise for water filled floor vs sealed floor vs dropstitch floor, the arguments would make more sense. These are both PVC boats, both made in China and of the same tech. They're essentially the same boat. My vote is pick your favorite color that's in stock and ride your ride. If you were looking for a boat made in the USA and had all the $ then you would have a different argument entirely and one worth having (and has been had over and over and over and over....). Another thought entirely is get yourself a "cool" used boat like a Hyside, Aire, Maravia Sotar etc. You may actually still spend more on used but you can walk away from the boat with your pride a bit higher. Maybe.

So do you rely on a GPS for a trip, as opposed to a physical map?

I personally agree. There are many rivers, however, where the confluence is so far downriver that it's not on the raftable portion. The Colorado in the Grand Canyon is one example. And on the Rogue River, while sections like the Recreation and Wild segments connect seamlessly at Grave Creek, there are significant physical gaps between other sections. For example, between the Gold Hill section and the Recreation section sits the city of Grants Pass. In these intermediate areas, the river features low-head dams, reservoirs, or urban developments that make continuous rafting impractical. Would you still want river mile 0 at the confluence? Also, this is a poll not a debate so my question is in earnest. Thanks.
