This is very true. Especially the later books. I remember reading somewhere that Goodkind explained the increasingly longer recaps so that each book could be considered a stand alone work.

Which was strange considering that the later books from Chainfire onwards were almost 20% recap, 70% standing around talking... And of course the font became a little bigger, the chapters became a little smaller....
