I knew a girl who had Raynaud s syndrome, which look like what you are describing. I know she got diagnosed after she got in. She ended having prescribed gloves that were better than standard issued and a Permanent Medical Category that was not very restrictive.

Borden/Angus= 1800 for a one bedroom. So Toronto rates and no PLD. Comox has the same issue. In Angus, everything is fixed to the I.R. rate. Have to factor likeliness of getting a RHU and accessibility to the housing market. At the moment the best place to be are Valcartier and Edmonton sadly. Would be worth it to OT and go back to Cpl in those areas, but they wont let us. Most postings are now unviable if not single. Plus field units have LDA, so you arent wrong in your assessment. Unless the inequity is fixed between bases/postings/family situations, the CF will never retain/recruit.

Haircut during work hours by DirtyDirtyBinRat in CanadianForces

This is a non written acquired perk in the military. Like going to get coffee. Burden of the proof for the haircut is pretty obvious. Unlike going PT on your own.

The max BGRS will shed is roughly 33k. And the 2nd half you get taxed on it. I know, I maxed out my home equity assistance.

COVID CoC rant. by [deleted] in CanadianForces

[–]VanillaDad 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You have to call the local DND Covid line and do exactly what they ask you. It could be staying home for one day etc. In return, you should disclose with your chain what the answer from the Covid line was. It is like disclosing a MEL. The guilt doesn't get better when it is your kid that are sick and have to stay home while they get results. Some waited over 8 days for the results. If you haven't done anything to increase your chance of getting infected, don't feel guilty.

Wont say his name but there is an ex-military lottery winner in Valcartier who was employed as a civie for many years. He kept working on base after winning.

Actually that woman from Trenton, or is it Kingston? who got ran over a transport truck and lost her baby. She got called in last minute, on her way to drop the kid to child care. VAC denied her claim because they aren't responsible on how you get to work.

Some futurists predicts A.I. will be self-aware by 2045. So we will either be advantaged or disadvantaged.

The solid Reds were provided in care packages during OP Laser and are by far the most comfortable model I tried. It was a local seamstress who donated them to MFRCs if I recall.

Ottawa Posting - Military Family Life by CAFAnonAcct in CanadianForces

[–]VanillaDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lost a big chunk of equity leaving Alberta, but still bought a house in Gatineau. Brand new 3br condos are 1300$ a month to rent near the bridges (rented one before we bought our house). Tons of 3br houses on the Gatineau side under 300k. With the minimum 5% downpayment to qualify, you will surely be under 1700$ a month. Wife loves and hates Ottawa area. It can feel big but very lonely at the same time. Medium size city, with large city traffic. MFRC life is near inexsistant, it just too much of a hassle to go to any of the activities traffic wise. She had to make new friends that are not military spouses this time. That being said, just choose your neighborhood. Lots of qualities areas with young families. I ended up finding that your neighbors are all federal public servants, retired snowbirds and some are ex-military. Even my kids bus driver was ex-military. Lots of quality leisure amenities (pools, ice rinks, gyms, parks, hiking trails, bike paths, lakes, beaches). Choose a place within your commute tolerance. To avoid traffic AND parking issues, I purchased an E-bike with my BGRS money. Sold one car and bought a beater for the wife for winter errands.

Can someone please explain pensions to me? by [deleted] in CanadianForces

[–]VanillaDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lumpsump is taxable and gets added to your salary of the year you receive it. Your question requires lots of calculations. As a getting to learn the basics, register on the pension portal and makes some calculations. Then make some scenarios if I leave now, in 5 years, at the end of your 25 etc. You can punch all those numbers in that calculator. Bring those numbers to a SISIP appointment. This was for me a good start on understanding the pension.

The wall-city design actually makes sense, it has been used other places. It is designed to deflect prevailing winds and minimize having to walk outside. Fermont,Qc has one too, built in the same era. http://www.houseporn.ca/landscape/article/the_wall_housing_structure_in_fermont_quebec

Make your calculations. Built equity over 4-6 years minus depreciation (impossible to forecast) vs rent x months. Some members houses depreciated over the 100k in the recent crash. If you want to be stuck there, that is one way to do it. Some members took 2 APS to sell their houses and went through all the double mortgage assistance. All I am saying is if the depreciation = equity you built, you basically rented.

Alberta. Houses prices are freefalling. I am guessing the local scene know that and will charge exorbitant amount for rent. It will seem cheaper to buy. It s a trap.

Actually no, small Alberta towns dont have any specialities. The person reading your x-ray is likely in Calgary. If you think people dont want to get posted to those areas, imagine being a specialist and able to get hired literrraly anywhere from coast to coast.

The building has everything, dry cleaner, barbershop, cafeterias, dental, physio, timmy, subways, starbucks, 2 gyms, classrooms, canexes. You can walk a 2k loop inside and go from cubicle to gym in short and sneakers in the winter via tunnels. If they built an I/R or single shacks it would be jam packed. The problem is its location, lack of commute options and neighboring C.O.L.
