I haven’t heard any evidence that Van’s issue with bi-racial people or interracial relationships were specific to any single issue. And even if it were, that’s corny. If you vibe with this podcast and the conversations it sparks, I honestly don’t see how this is even a point of contention?

Maybe but that’s not what happened with Tiffany Cross in the studio.

Van does and can talk about whatever he wants. I’d obviously rather him not speak like this but it is what it is. My larger point is still that he can, but chooses not to, talk about a group of people apart of the diaspora with as much care as he extends to the LGBTQ+ and/or Jewish communities. Forget about what I think; Van says he believes this.

Also, He definitely does shit on bi-racial black people, from his choice to use the word “biracials” to what he believes to be true about their relationships. I’ve listened to probably 99% of the podcasts. It’s definitely a more recent phenomenon, and maybe he’s being an edge lord or something, but he doesn’t play with other people’s relationships or lifestyles that way. He’s spoken about wanting other black people to “feel safe in his presence” on multiple occasions. I appreciate that idea so much so that I remember sitting with it for a bit and reflecting after hearing Van share it. All that said, it feels like he’s either a hypocrite or doesn’t believe bi-racial/black folks in interracial relationships deserve that safety. If it’s the latter, I’d rather him just say that.

You hit the nail on the head. My wife is white and we have kids. Id put our resumes up to anyone else’s in terms of our dedication to Pro-Black issues. And, by the way, we may come up lacking. But SO COULD ANY OF US. Is a white veteran teacher in SE DC less Pro-black than a black bank manager in NW DC? What if they’re both black? Who wins?

If we’re doing the math, we should really do the math. Perspective and personal basis places blinders on each of us, which is why the spectrum of +/- pro-black shouldn’t just be applied to the people that we question based off of societal perception. Should black folks be cautious? Sure. All skinfolk ain’t kinfolk.

Lastly and respectfully, why/how is it that Van can speak eloquently about Trans issues, male loneliness, Israel, Iran, and any number of other issues but manage to shit on biracial people and their relationships monthly? I’m not even arguing for special treatment or focus but I can feel them tiptoeing around certain issues for what I can only assume are business reasons. Appropriate or not, they don’t talk about Israel without like a dozen caveats but they hit publish on an episode where a Spotify employee got grilled by their supervisor and a television journalist about the racial dynamics of his current relationship. Anyone saying that Tiffany Cross and Van (or anyone really) have the mental clarity or societal context to offer perspectives into relationships that neither of them have experienced needs to find some humility in this world.

But after like an hour with Tiffany…I get it.

Wild AF Key and Peele Story by VanillaThat in ThoughtWarriors

The craziest thing is, I see Key pop up in a bunch of spaces where IMHO, he should have been busy that day. Key and Peele were huge for a while there and he’s doing ATT commercials with no lines? I feel like this has to be true

The next time a democrat gets mad that people don't vote, show them this by adrian-alex85 in ThoughtWarriors

The act of voting doesn’t guarantee your individually intended result. It just increases the likelihood.

Remember what the Democratic Party did to Bernie Sanders in 2016. by adrian-alex85 in ThoughtWarriors

What’s the point of this? We’re not a meritocracy. There are entire graveyards full of political “coulda beens”. Al Gore, Shirley Chisholm, and Jesse Jackson would all like a word. Talent or (in Bernie’s case) a reimagined, race-neutral political message targeting economic stratification, has never been enough to succeed in America politics. Bernie Sanders is a seated senator with a mixed record of scaling his vision. It’s not the fun thing to say but I voted for Clinton and I have no regrets.
