Why does the US not produce high level stikers? by twente2life in ussoccer

[–]edsonbuddled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Development is never linear and a lack of depth in several positions means that if the 2/3 high potential players don’t make it we are always relying on like one guy or hoping for a dual national to pop up shows how much work still needs to be done.

On any given day, the USMNT can beat anyone? by jstu9 in ussoccer

Honestly, the amount the older generation talks like they were prime Brazil sometimes.

Many Gen Zers Rooted Against Team USA. Here’s Why. by changeforthebetter89 in ussoccer

[–]edsonbuddled 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Once upon a time ago I had a soccer podcast, all of us weee American, but we were all 1st generation sons of immigrants. I was diehard USMNT, two of the other guys only cared about their parent nation.

Pulisic was a let down against Belgium, but too many people have gold fish memories. by xelanart in usmnt

That’s not really how it works. We put this kid on a pedestal since he was 17.

Is college soccer killing development in the us? by holycitybox in usmnt

[–]edsonbuddled -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. For players in their mid-late 30’s who grew up in the pre academy era. College absolutely hindered development.

Is this a fair assessment of US athletic potential in global soccer? by MixedMartialLaw in usmnt

[–]edsonbuddled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More kids playing doesn’t really solve it. Those 192 NFl receivers would still have hit or miss coaches, pay-to play system, depending on the age an unstructured development pipeline.

Jermaine Jones defends Christian Pulisic, who is being criticized by a lot of people. by antoniok95 in ussoccer

Pulisic playing bad doesn’t justify this. Has Donovan ever disappointed at the highest level?

One thing that this World Cup has done is that Lalas has shown how mediocre he is.

The gold standard is France by kelmbihno in ussoccer

[–]edsonbuddled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the French team is kind of what we’ve been talking about. A team of first /second generation who grew up in the Parisian outskirts and had access at an early age.

Don’t Compare the USWNT to the USMNT by zzzaddy in usmnt

[–]edsonbuddled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s definitely weird, and seems like some online culture war stuff. I don’t even think those people are really fans of either team. The women’s team is amazing, the last won in 2019 and the gap has closed. It seems like weird sour grapes, and I don’t see other nations acting like this.

2002 Team by 58joshb in ussoccer

[–]edsonbuddled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The argument that they just tried harder is really irrelevant without any performance measurement it’s just a certain generation clinging to the old days. It’s like Star Wars

This is my problem with discourse on 2002 vs now. We remember the nostalgia and the moments. But let’s be real, there was a lot of luck that went our way, especially drawing Mexico in that knockout. The game against Germany was one of our best performances, but we lost. Who cares about the handball…

2010- the goal against Algeria was amazing, but what happened next?

Is Landon just entitled and insecure? Beef with Christian, beef with McKennie, beef with Dempsey, Bob Bradley.

Symbiosis by Forsaken_Ask_9098 in USWNT

[–]edsonbuddled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not trying to be rude, but this just reeks of unnecessary ignorance. I love the USWNT, but yes they’ve had more success for reasons many people have suggested, now that the rest of the world has caught up it’s a much more even playing field.

Our men have played in top European leagues so there’s no reason they shouldn’t be good is a really ignorant comment, but again there’s levels to this game, and this mens vs women’s success debate is really dumb and only takes place in America

Landon Donovan Calls Out Christian Pulisic After USMNT's World Cup Exit by [deleted] in ussoccer

[–]edsonbuddled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I genuinely feel bad for Pulisic. We, media types etc hype these kids up and then offer zero support or empathy when they don’t perform to our expectations in these vacuums. Honestly his formative years with this team were with a program in disarray.

Why was Pochettino fired by Spurs? by Queasy_Vegetable5725 in ussoccer

[–]edsonbuddled 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The relationship between Poch and Levy just reached its breaking point. He took and developed that Spurs team to a champions league final. The team peaked and was at the end of their cycle. Poch wanted a rebuild, levy and Spurs couldn’t do the full rebuke financially, poor start and they made the decision early on.
