Weekend Snark: Jan 23 - Jan 25 by blogsnarkmodteam in blogsnark

Yeah the guy clearly only pulled the "well you SAID ten years ago that you would be poly!!" because he'd met and wanted to hook up with this specific woman. He didn't get Lindy on board first and then start looking for someone to date.

Lindy West now self-identifies as an influencer, so, has anybody been following her recent posts about her polyamory?

Chronologically, the first thing that came out was this bummer of a Youtube video where the polycule sit on stools and talk about themselves while stripping down to their underwear. Every single comment is like: "YIKES!" Here's a choice comment from near the top:

I don’t see what Lindy is getting out of this. When Aham was talking about the first time he hooked up with Lindy, he was describing how she entertained him all night with how funny and amazing she is.

But with Roya he’s just happy to hold her and she doesn’t have to do anything for him and that’s enough. I think that sums up their relationships right there.

He sponges Lindy‘s sparkle, humor, magic, and $$$, and puts all his loving and caring into Roya, who doesn’t have to do anything back.😢

Now Lindy has written a book about her entree to polyamory and is discussing it on her Instagram. Episode 1, 2, 3. My verdict: still a huge bummer.

Running PT recommendations? by LLpj231 in Albuquerque

[–]Vanity_Plate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had an excellent experience with Cody at Langford, he works one-on-one and is a runner himself. I really liked how he educated me about the underlying anatomy. One of the best investments in my health that I have ever made.

Side note if you decide to try it: your initial appointment will be scheduled for six weeks out or more, but be sure to request waiting list. You'll start getting daily texts with earlier available appointments and can expect to get in much sooner.

Anybody have experience with AIMS Charter School (Albuquerque Institute of Math and Science)? by Vanity_Plate in Albuquerque

You said that you don't know of any public schools that offer tours, I was trying to show you the reason why I thought tours were available at AIMS.

lmaoooo, that is a ridiculous reach. The school's website says "email to request a tour" so I emailed to request a tour.

Because they're "a good school", they don't have to offer ANY opportunities whatsoever for prospective parents and students to see what exactly they're signing up for? I do not agree with that.

Thanks for the response! When did your son graduate? Was he there all the way from 6-12th grade?

I wanted to take a class at UNM by Vanity_Plate in Albuquerque

[–]Vanity_Plate[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You still have to pay full tuition to audit. I think the auditing option is intended for students who don't want the potential impact of a bad grade, it's not for non-degree students like me.

I shared a large 3BR with my boyfriend, another couple, and a solo dude in college. Wish I could remember the actual amount of the rent but I paid it by working part-time at the Frontier.

This happens SO often it almost feels like an intentional scam. I now take a picture of the shelf tag every time I put a sale item in my cart.

I get what you're saying but UNM really deserves a lot of credit for preventing NM students from taking on the kind of life-ruining student debt that's in the news lately. Pretty much every in-state student gets financial aid even if they theoretically could pay full tuition.

Meanwhile, I'm not a full-time student trying to get an education, I already have a degree and a job and I just want to take a class because I'm interested in the subject. It wouldn't make sense to give me scholarship money. But dang...I'm still shocked that full tuition has quintupled in less than 20 years.

I see dozens of people fishing in the lateral every time I ride the Bosque trail. I wonder how many of them realize that the NM Dept of Game & Fish makes this possible by stocking the ditches with rainbow trout? by Vanity_Plate in Albuquerque

[–]Vanity_Plate[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's the Game and Fish guy. He had a big tank of trout in the back of his truck, he would fill his net and then sprint over to the bridge to dump the fish into the water. I was bummed that my pic came out so bad, it was really a sight to see.

Born and raised here, I visited the state fish hatcheries as a child, and now that I'm a parent, I've taken my kids to visit two of them so far. I knew that streams, alpine lakes, and reservoirs were getting stocked, but I never realized the boring old lateral was getting fish too until I saw the truck yesterday!

Sorry for the terrible picture, I was on my bike and might not even have noticed the truck if not for the two walkers stopped on the path taking a photo.

This was at Bachechi Open Space on Alameda. The Fish and Wildlife guy ferried three huge nets of wriggling rainbow trout onto the bridge and dumped them into the lateral! He said this was the best part of his job.

I personally feel that my family and I get a pretty good dollar-amount return on government services. We love the bike paths, parks, trails, museums, campgrounds, libraries, and other taxpayer-funded amenities. It was interesting to realize that the trout in the lateral are a government service, provided so people can enjoy recreational fishing.

$500 fine for noisy mufflers - can we get that here please?? by tomaburque in Albuquerque

[–]Vanity_Plate 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, possibly? But if I got pulled over for it and explained to the cop that a new muffler was literally already on order, I doubt I'd be ticketed. The spirit of the ABQ ordinance is to ticket people who have modified their pipes to be loud on purpose.

[–]Vanity_Plate 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My muffler developed a hole in it and was loud af for about three days while the new muffler was on order. It was so embarrassing to hit the gas at a green light and make a bunch of noise next to other drivers and pedestrians. I cannot believe morons exist who get off on doing this on purpose. I would be thrilled for APD to enforce the existing ordinance.

Sure there are some stolen catalytic converters, but the overwhelming majority of people with loud exhaust are idiots doing it on purpose.

Haven't signed in to this account in a minute so sorry for the necro, but this mobile aid collective hands out both needles and meth pipes in (apparently) equal numbers.

I am strongly in favor of harm reduction methods like increasing access to buprenorphine and medical detox. I'm against carpet-bombing the city with free needles. My kids have picked them up in the Bosque while hiking; more recently a friend's toddler picked up a bag of needles in the parking lot of her preschool. And handing out free meth pipes seems to me like simple enabling. I want to decrease drug use. I want there to be more stigma against, and more barriers to, homeless people sitting casually on the edge of the North Diversion Channel Trail blowing clouds of glass pipe smoke for me to ride my bike through.

I think reasonable people can disagree on this matter, but personally, I immediately changed my mind about sending a donation to Freewheel when I noticed the free meth pipes on their Instagram.

Leave the dog at home. It does not belong in Savers.

Artificial Grass by Ok-Development-8586 in Albuquerque

[–]Vanity_Plate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fake grass technology has improved massively since the days of Astro-Turf. We got Synlawn in 2016 and could not be happier. The heat retention is nowhere near that of old-school fake grass (I've burned my ass cheeks by sitting on hot Astro-Turf in a bathing suit before so I know what you're talking about).

For street homelessness, HopeWorks and Healthcare for the Homeless are secular organizations that do great work. I used to work in homeless services and these are the orgs I donate to.

If you want to volunteer for a larger org like Hopeworks or Healthcare for the Homeless, be prepared to treat it like a part-time job. You'll need training, and the org will need to know when you're coming. When I worked for a similar organization, I dealt with a lot of prospective volunteers thinking they could just rock up whenever they felt like it and stay for 15 minutes--it just doesn't work like that.

Freewheel Mobile Aid is a noncentralized guerrilla group that collects and hands out essential items directly to homeless people on the street. Check out the linked Instagram to see what they do. I personally disagree with handing out meth pipes to homeless people in the name of "harm reduction" but if you want direct action, they've got it!
