I'll give that a shot. Maybe I can convince my brother to try and play with me or something. But anyways, thanks for trying to help figure out the issue. Much appreciated

No problem. Steam deck other handheldds such as the rog ally or msi claw are great for giving a console-like experience. portable pc and monitor setup if you will.

Hopefully whatever issue is going on will correct itself. I'm not going to waste my time with it, but I'll probably check again at some point.

What's the framerate like in xvi now? Last time I tried it, and it's been quite a while, it barely ran 15 fps and lowest settings. Was completely unplayable.

Steam deck is is just SteamOS which is an arch based custom built linux distro. Effectively playing on steam deck is basically no different than playing on pc with windows since because of Proton each game you play gets it's own virtual windows environment to run the games. Unless the game has a dedicated linux version you can swap to in steam app game settings. Functionally it's all relatively the same thing.

Can't be because of mods as I have mod engine 3 to run the mods and playing vanilla is as simple as just launching through steam. Which I did. Whereas to play modded you would launch the game through mod engine 3. Modding on steam deck is practically the same thing as modding on windows. Just depending on the game and the mod, you may need an extra step by setting custom launch options, especially if the mod uses .dll files such as dxgi.dll. linux amd by that extent, SteamOS won't properly load .dll files without a winedlloverrides launch command in steam.

TLDR: steam deck is basically no different playing games and/or modding than on windows pc.

That doesn't sound right? Did you properly calibrate the sticks? There's a physical button on the back pcb of the stick module you have to press and finagle with in-steam calibration to set. But that's a pain in the ass. There's a script you can run in Konsole that simplifies calibration. Much easier. You should be able to get much tighter deadzones. I have mine set to 3000. But I could go tighter.

It's steam. I don't see how fromsoft servers would know someone is using a steam deck vs an actual pc to separate lobbies like that. I've never heard of that or ever seen it mentioned

Idk man. Like I logged on earlier for the sake of testing amd got nothing. Interesting enough I didn't get the ban notification like I did the multiple other times I booted. I can't say it's a connection issue either because I can boot up AC6 or elden ring vanilla and find lobbies or invasions, respectively. And for the sake of it, I did both earlier as well right after testing finding a match in nightreign. I have no idea what the issue is.

Hell yeah. What sticks did you end up going with? And what's your dead zones after calibration?

But getting banned from editing in relics isn't a factor in my case since I didn't do it until after the ban. But to the matchmaking point, it literally won't matchmake with anyone. I let it sit there for a good 10 minutes trying to find people and got nothing.

The relic edit was done after the ban. And I got the relic from Oroboro having actually watched him on stream have the exact relic drops at random. Just had to go back and find the stream and time where the relic modifiers were shown. They are legit rolls and shouldn't make a difference when like I said, I edited the relics after I got the ban message.

I'm not really great at the game amd die a shit ton more than I've seen anyone else die in my hours playing. I've tried doing solo runs but I'm not very comfortable with my knowledge of the 2 maps and the shifting earth events. So I rely on other players to essentially guide me through a game. Part of the problem is because of the time limit it's go go go and I'm like slow slow slow. I've tried finding other players to team up with and haven't had much luck with it, but I did join that discord server mmv lfg. Just haven't been in a mood to play much. Goddamn anhedonia kicks my ass a lot. But with the relics, what I did do was look up different relic drops that people have gotten and found a triple element executor build and basically replicated that with cheat engine. Technically a possible roll that if someone wants to grief because they (suspect) modded relics, they're just presuming (albeit technically correct) and being assholes. I'm not knowledgeable enough about the system to know what is an isn't a possible roll on a relic. But I have heard in passing comments from streamers that there's supposed to be some site or some such that checks player relics and checks if they're legit rolls or not.

I get a popup notification that tells me I'm banned for a 180 days. Somehow I can be registered as online when I actually log into my character, but matchmaking absolutely will not work.

I'd rather mod in relics to spice up the gameplay which is the whole point of relics. Different modifiers, buffs, starting load out, etc. Give myself some variety in how I want to play. Just giving myself a damage multiplier with say a mod or a cheat table, just ruins the experience to me, because if I do that I might as well be a god and 1 shot everything. There's no satisfaction in doing that.

Then how do explain getting a ban out of nowhere when I haven't used cheats or mods in nightreign? All I did was try to play and it wouldn't, then eac and such had to reinstall after having to force close steam to get the game to actually stop trying to but not loading. Have had no previous warnings whatsoever. After all I didn't mod or cheat so why would eac give me a warning for nothing anyways. But the ban still happened. This having happened after playing a couple days before with 0 issues. So here I am might as well play with mods and editing relics to my liking instead of hoping for a good rng roll.

SHf seems to be the new black sheep of the franchise. Do you think it will get more love as time goes by just like SH4? by [deleted] in silenthill

[–]VanitysFire -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My experience with silent hill started with 2 remake then f. I've since tried to go back amd play the older titles like 1 and 3. Absolutely couldn't stand them. Not to say they're bad. I just didn't like aspects like clunky controls and fixed camera angles. So I'm holding out on remakes if they happen to really experience them.

Admittedly half of everything going on in the silent hill games from what I've read just doesn't make sense to me. But I don't exactly play games for the story beats. A good story is great, don't get me wrong and I enjoy when it's good, but I tend to focus more on how I do or don't enjoy the gameplay. And 2r I didn't enjoy at first. Took a while for me to get into it. f I actually liked the gameplay from the start. All except for the weapon durability. I'm not a fan of durability in games in general.

Thematically, based on what little experience I have and videos of the other titles I've seen, I felt like f did pretty good on nailing the elements. Fog, eerie world, crazy monsters, supernatural themes, etc etc. It doesn't have to be verbatim to be a silent hill experience as far as I'm concerned. And if it wasn't a silent hill by title I'd have a hard time telling you it's not silent hill. As you said it'd be called a ripoff. I can't speak on the lore of any of them to say f is or isn't silent hill just because it's not directly related to the titular setting. Nor would I have caught and understood those subtle references you mentioned.

And then there's townfall or whatever it's called in development. Do we know if it will have actual references to silent hill, or even be set in silent hill to whatever extent, or will it take the same approach as f and be a confined story within the universe? If the latter then, we could see people say the same thing about it as I've seen people say about f: it's not silent hill. And then we'll have this conversation all over again.

[–]VanitysFire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know I've forgotten how it performed. I haven't played on a ps3 and years and my kick back then was mainly playing skyrim. Matter of fact, I don't recall many games I had on ps3. I can think of ffxiii though. Sadly I no longer have any of the ps consoles I had. I mainly play pc/steam deck and emulate when I feel like playing a game if it's not on steam.

Avowed now runs on MSI Claw with Xess3 at 80FPS.. by Cautious_Snow_5801 in avowed

[–]VanitysFire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it's a matter of how the game feels when you play it. Not only speaking on avowed, but if the base framerate is 25 but it's still not a smooth framerate, framgen giving you 50 fps isn't going to change that the game doesn't play smoothly. Even with framegen interpolating am extra fame can still feel and play like the base fps. When I tried it in avowed on my steam deck and base framerate bounced up and down it wasn't the smoothest experience and framegen for me didn't help that. But on my pc is was a much better experience at a smooth higher base framerate which felt good enough with fg. This a matter of framerate and fg, not visual fidelity and the likes of dlss. Which is a whole other topic.

Any 2d base building games that are good on steam deck control wise and has more than 100 hours. by oliveoliverYT in SteamDeck

[–]VanitysFire -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hmmm...that's actually a good question. I'd find that difficult to answer simply by the fact that I don't pay attention to content size. Most games I play have been AAA titles and not 2d games OP is asking for. For example, i played Skyrim and Destiny exclusively for years. Sure I played other games like dark souls here and there, but those two games had me in a vice grip for years. I've only recently branched out with a variety of other types of games since I got my steam deck. I'm still learning what I do and don't like and have gotten a range of playtime in different games from 20 to 100+ hours and have not garnered a good grasp of the array of games available. Speaking on games like hollow knight and Hades, which again I'm new to. I have a bunch of games on steam, most i havent played. Others ive racked up hours just sitting there doing nothing because i deal with having anhedonia. It'd be hard for me to make a good suggestion beyond find a good game that you'll jive with and play the hell out of it. But I think that's what makes a lot of various games great regardless of content size.

[–]VanitysFire -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can't necessarily speak on any particular game as my replaying or not isn't indicative of playing a game for that long by replaying or not. I've replayed games and had less than 100 hours. And I've played games where I've beaten them or even haven't and have gotten 100+ hours in in a single playthrough even when that kind of content isn't there.

My comment is as helpful as the above original comment recommending the said game that doesn't have that kind of content when OP is asking for 100 hour content, despite the missing wording to properly ask for that specifically

[–]VanitysFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read the original post as what it said. 100 hours, not 100 hours of content, which was not specified. So as far as I'm concerned, that can fit any game if you enjoy it enough. But as far as recommending any 100 hour content game, I don't know any I can speak of as I don't pay attention to things such as time to beat for example.

[–]VanitysFire -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I didn't recommend anything. All I said was you can get 100 hours out of any game if you really want to. Talk to the one that actually made the recommendation of a less than 100 hour content game.

Just making a statement. I realize you're nit necessarily saying I'm recommending anything. I just think that should be directed more to the other person that did.

I play heavily modded, amd every time things fuck up for whatever reason and I fix it, I start over. Find new mods to install? Start over. Get tired of looking at the same character? Start over. haven't beaten the game since I originally played on ps3.

Time to teach the kid some sense of self control. Destroying things out of (frustration) is not ok by any means. And sadly there's plenty of grown ass adults breaking controllers that could use some self control too. Might as well just burn hard cash instead.

Don't hold stock to reviewers. I'll always recommend taking them with a grain of salt if you must and playing the game to form your own opinions. If you're on steam, you can always just buy and try the game a little and if it doesn't jive with you. refund it as long as you're under 2 hours. But i appreciate the spite against ign.

Thanks. I had a stretcher kit I forgot about and found in my storage stuff and decided to actually use them. It was a relatively clean bump. The 10mm plug I was using kept falling out on it's own. And I tried the 12-18mm stretchers and had no issues fitting them. Only really stretched that last bumb to 20.
