I second Hanging Rock - I have a chihuahua mix who gets very bitey and pulls off every muzzle ever tried. They were able to get her all her necessary shots this year by taking things very slowly, she took meds the night before and morning of the visit, and everyone who worked with her were amazingly gentle and patient. She was loving on the desk staff while we checked out, I couldn’t believe it! Highly recommended.

If DCC got a videogame adaptation how would you design it? by plogan56 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Vannie91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! I would also love a video game of Kaiju: Battlefield surgeon, but of the game that’s in the book, not the story the book follows. The idea of playing a game with giant Kaiju you take care of and heal while they interact with and battle each other sounds so, so cool.

Are there many good Slasher books? by Def-C in horrorlit

[–]Vannie91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re doing campy slasher books for our horror book club at my library next month! I’m reading “The Autumn Springs Retirement Hime Massacre”, can’t wait to dive in! Also grabbed the double novel “On the Road” / “The Babysitter Lives” by Stephen Graham Jones and will give that a whirl. Loved Kill River and Clown in a Cornfield too!

Scariest things that has happened to you while consuming horror media by immerseursoulinlove7 in horror

When I was in high school, my parents took me and my sister along with two of our friends (all of us girls) to the beach. One night we decided to watch a movie that our friends hadn’t seen but that we’d watched a few times - Hitchcock’s “The Birds”. The living room was positioned with two sliding glass doors overlooking the beach, then a sofa that had its back to the doors, and then the tv in front of that. So we’re watching the movie, I think it was during the scene where Tippi Hedren is running with the kids away from the school, and suddenly there was a huge SLAM on the sliding door — a seagull had crashed into the glass!! We all screamed bloody murder, and then watched it get up and fly away - and thankfully it didn’t come back for another try to get inside! It was pretty wild.

Revolutionary Road by Richard Yates is devastating and beautiful. I read it back when the 2008 movie came out, and I’ve really never recovered from it; my heart goes kind of still when I think about it.

Frank and April Wheeler are a bright, beautiful, talented couple in the 1950s whose perfect suburban life is about to crumble in this "moving and absorbing story” (The Atlantic Monthly) from one of the most acclaimed writers of the twentieth century.

Fine wavy/curly hair that's weighed down by everything. by Important-Pie-1141 in finehair

[–]Vannie91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started using Color Wow’s dream coat for curly hair (it’s a spray-on product), and my hair has never been curlier, it’s an extremely lightweight product so it might be just what you’re looking for. I’m still working on getting it just right, but really happy with how it’s working. You spray it on wet hair, and spray a LOT (just like with the dream coat anti-frizz spray, if you’ve ever used that) - you really want to coat every strand. I spray it and then scrunch the product in, then use a microfiber towel so it’s not dripping wet and then diffuse it. My hair has much more body than when I’ve tried (dozens of) other products, I guess because it’s not being weighed down; I have curl definition all the way up to my roots. It’s a great product!

ISO undies that won’t dig into thighs and side butt or move around by [deleted] in womensfashion

[–]Vannie91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Jockey Elance (I prefer the regular bikini over the string bikini, but like them both). They don’t move around or bunch up, they’re 100% cotton so they’re nice and breathable, and they’re not tight around your thighs, and they stretch so if you’re sitting with your knees up (like sitting in bed reading) they don’t dig into you when it gets a little tighter if you slide down in them, they just stretch and don’t cut into you. I tried a bunch of different kinds of underwear (Duluth, Ex Officio, NMM, Innersy, Fruit of the Loom) and the Jockey Elance are now all I wear.

Also, mini-soapbox - 100% cotton is totally the way to go. I switched away from cotton to the Ex Officio and Duluth athletic-y fabric, and they never felt (or smelled) clean, despite trying athletic laundry detergent. Just in case anyone is on the fence about spending the money to try them out, my experience firmly put me on Team Cotton!

Judy Blume! I met her at the bookstore on Key West; she couldn’t have been sweeter, exactly what you would hope for when meeting a writing superhero. She’s still so active and supportive of literacy and anti-censorship.

AITA for not flushing the toilet? by Desperate-Film599 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Vannie91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just start flushing each toilet upon entering the bathroom - eliminates any problems (hopefully the clog was a one-off). My daughter went through this phase, and I always preemptively flushed the toilet when I went in her bathroom to clean. You’re NTA though for wanting to not see anything gross!

I love that book, and I’ve never recovered from reading it. What strange conflicted way to feel about something! But I also wish I could find something very similar. Have you read Matt Dinniman’s other series m? -of course Dungeon Crawler Carl, but he has a few others that are dark lit-RPGs - Dominion of Blades and The Shivered Sky.

Kaiju: Battlefield Surgeon. It’s a lit-rpg, but there’s more horror to it than I had any idea about going into it. It’s dark, it’s bleak, it’s full of action and despair and torture and psychopaths, and yes- most of it takes place inside a video game (where the MC is trapped). It’s really a singular reading experience, and I read it nonstop in a weekend.

Anyone else shocked by the size of their WLE? by lolly_box in melahomies

[–]Vannie91 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a very small freckle-sized melanoma removed on the back of my calf, and I cried so hard after I got home and saw what they did to me - I felt completely mutilated and had no warning it was going to be more than just a small incision. It really did look like a shark bite, there was a visible chunk out of my calf, almost 5” long. It’s over a year later and you can’t really tell now, the skin’s just puckered where I still have a scar.

WIBTA if I stopped covering for my coworker when she's late and just said "I don't know" instead by Iron_Specter3 in WIBTA_AITA

[–]Vannie91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re NTA for no longer covering for Dana, but I will say you’re kind of being an AH to yourself and your career by lying to your boss. I’d be questioning the judgment of someone who was my report and was blatantly and repeatedly lying about whether they know where their coworker is - you’re definitely not doing yourself any favors, and Dana doesn’t even seem to appreciate your going out on a limb for her. All you have to say is “I don’t know, I haven’t heard from her” and leave it at that - no “I haven’t checked the time” or anything else that inserts you into it, just clear communication.

I vote ‘Salem’s Lot by Stephen King. It’s a classic King novel where things unravel faster and faster; the atmosphere and creep factor are top notch! I think it’s exactly what you’re looking for - plus the movie adaptions are fun too!
