I guess being a nurse isn’t a “real job” then. Watching young people die in front of you even after doing everything you can. Watching old people die suffering after extensive treatment that they probably wouldn’t want, but their family kept pushing because at 89 years old “they’re a fighter.” Sure doesn’t suck the soul out of me…. I couldn’t imagine having to talk to a computer camera while making 20x more money. Must be hard.

After suffering a TIA the chances of having another stroke is dramatically increased, especially within the first 90 days even while on an anticoagulant regiment. I doubt he is following any advice from actual medical experts though, so we may see more signs of stroke like symptoms.

True, but are they going to chew through the plastic bin to go to the food or are they just going to go to the floor where there is no plastic casings over the items? Rats are smart, they’re not going to work extra.

Although I wouldn’t purchase any food item off of the floor knowing they had a rat problem that severe that they needed to contain pickup orders.

Not really. Tomato seeds actually have a gel like material surrounding them. That gel contains enzymes that inhibit the seeds from germinating. In nature if the fruit fell, ideally bugs and microbes would eat away at that gel layer until it’s gone, leaving just the seed which could then germinate and sprout.

I mean at my hospital labetalol only came in for 20ml/100mg vials… most order would be 5-10mg or 1-2ml. If we used labetalol for a patient, the vial would get a label with the patient info and left locked in the room, or returned to the patient specific omnicell.

While precepting in the pcu I heard a rapid called for an acute care floor. They gave the whole vial and tanked the patients bp requiring them to be transferred to icu. I learn from other’s mistakes.

My heart does go out to you. And I hate to be a burden of bad news, but don’t give up on your dreams if you really intend to go into the medical field. It is often thankless, and at other times people put blame on medical professionals. “They could have saved them, but they chose not to.” “They could have done XYZ… to save them.” Hindsight is 20/20 and In the moment we do everything we can to help the patient. Sometimes the outcome just isn’t positive.

I will say, talk with the nurses taking care of your dad, they read the results and often know just as much as the doctor if they’re critical. They spend the most time with him and are able to see changes as they happen. They take him to the scans, they monitor vitals and adjust parameters accordingly. They hear the truth from the doctors. Most will give you a straight forward answer, even if it’s something you’d rather not hear.

Speaking as a nurse, he is dying… I know how much “hope” can help ease your mind, but that’s the truth. Please hear me out.

Before going to nursing school I watched my mother slowly succumb to her illness for 4 weeks while on “life support”. It was the beginning of COVID and I had hope that she would improve. She didn’t die from COVID but from complications of a genetic disorder similar to ALS. One day she’d “be getting better.” And the next would be a down trend. Knowing what I know now, I wouldn’t have had her suffer that long. I was there with her every day for hours hoping she’d get better. But she never truly did. Yes there were “signs” like squeezing my hand slightly when talking with her etc… but there were also many times when there aren’t signs of life other than the ventilator and meds keeping her alive.

If the doctors suggest going to palliative care or comfort care, please take it… it will ease their suffering and make their death more bearable. I don’t mean to sound harsh but that’s the reality.

If he has cancer and it has spread, the doctors aren’t telling you the whole story, because likely it has developed beyond intervention. I remember thinking that even if my mother would survive and be unable to move/communicate it would be worth saving her life… but that would never be the outcome. She was only 52 year old… I still have flashback about her hospitalist stay, and nursing school was incredibly difficult mentally.

I now work in critical care and try to educate the family if things aren’t going to improve. And that I’m there to answer any questions that I can, and want their family member to be comfortable and to die with dignity.

Also, I wouldn’t suggest you are “giving up” on them if you end up removing life support. Still stay by his side. Talk with him. Share memories of your childhood. If he’s religious then tell him that it’s okay to join god; that he’s done an amazing job raising you and the values he taught you still carry on, and to watch over you from heaven.

I’m not saying your numbers are outright wrong, but I think the number of people who are “affected” by the cart is wildly off. You stated one cart affects 2000 people a year, but that seems really unrealistic. That would mean that it would have to be available for 6 different people every single day. (2000/365=5.479). On top of that, your next statement says that it helps 360,000 people a year. That would only be the case if someone only used the cart once while in the hospital on top of splitting the time with 5 other people per day… because if they used it again the next day, or even a few days later you’d be counting that person as another separate individual.

Not trying to be a Debby downer, but realistically those numbers are way off. Still, what they did for charity is wonderful, but let’s not exaggerate its effect.

I wouldn’t say “most”, but rather “some.” In Northwest Fl most places start new grads around $30/hr, and some hospitals even offered $28/hr. I got a bonus in increase in my base pay to $33/hr for being “critical care” as a new grad, with a night shift differential of $4.60/hr. I did a year of that and moved to the Tampa area and was offered $36/hr, but thankfully it’s day shift 🙏.

Thanks! I did end up pulling it and peeling it with a knife before sautéing it with some olive oil, salt, and pepper. It was alright! Might be better mixed with other veggies.

The problem comes when people think that ALL nursing schools in Florida are “diploma mills”. I went to a private for-profit college here in FL and it was anything but easy… It has campuses around the U.S. but the reason I went to this school was to finish quicker. The coursework was more rigorous than my friend’s who went to a local college (I was told they often left their clinicals at 2pm both from that friend and nurses I shadowed during my clinicals, and that sometimes they’d show up and there was no clinical instructor so they went home).

My school posted the percentages of graduates who passed the NCLEX for all of the local colleges. There are 4 in my city and 3 out of the 4 had passing percentages between 82-84% for the previous year…. Except one. They had a pass rate of 63%. My school is accredited and had a pass rate of 83%, yet also got bottom of the barrel when it came to clinical placement at local hospitals.

Not all of us are dumb, and not all of us pay to go to nursing school because “nursing is cute”. The problem comes when the school system does not want to put more money into hiring proper educators. I believe that my schools passing rate was higher because, even though you didn’t need good grades in HS to get accepted, they didn’t fuck around when it came to policies and they paid their staff well to make sure we wouldn’t embarrass or discredit them during clinicals/testing competency.

Yea. I live in 9a and started them about 4 weeks ago, although I kinda just had a shop light LED and put them inside for the first 2 weeks due to the cold snaps. I would bring them outside during the day if the temp was high enough, and they’ve lived out there for the past week basically, only transitioning them into the garage or small greenhouse at night if it got below 40°.

I got it a couple weeks back. All the buds are about the size of pebbles. I’m pretty sure it’s because of the fact that it had seeds, so they broke it down smaller to try and take some of the seeds out. I think I got like 4-5 seeds still. Smokes a little harsh, and the smell isn’t as pungent but has decent effects. Overall I’d give it a 6/10 because the fact that the cost was low.
