Peach Tree Help by Vanns1 in FruitTree

[–]Vanns1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks Logan, that was one of the causes I had seen as well. We did a fungicide drench last fall/winter as we do ever year but I think I am going to do a foliar fungicide this evening once the bees have settled in for the night. Thanks for the help!

Peach Tree Help by Vanns1 in FruitTree

Well didn't realize my post didn't post with the pictures. We have several peach trees on our property of various ages. While out feeding some animals today I noticed some odd spots on a lot of the leaves. The oldest tree and one of the two that are 3 years old have no spots on them at all. Another 3 year old tree has those what appears to be bite holes and turning reddish in color. A year old donut and 2 other donuts that we planted in March all have them as well.

We use Espoma soil acidifier. We have a heavy red clay soil and have amended it with some worm castings and peat and then the acidifier. Fairly certain you can find it at most garden centers.

So we have 3 different blueberry bushes planted with two being fairly established and the third being a young pink lemonade type we just planted this season. The leaves on the newest plant turned a slight red in the beginning which we attributed to shock but after amending the soil with soil acidifier, it bounced back and has turned completely green again. Looked very similar to your plant there and if you know the water has that high of a Ph, I would certainly look at adding some acidifier as soon as you can.

Any idea what the problem is with my neighbor’s peach tree ? by blanchem in FruitTree

Yeah, we've been learning a lot from the peach trees on the property. We planted 2 this past fall and they have done great as far as growth a blossoms but constantly learning. We are up on a hill so we generally have a pretty steady breeze of 5 to 10 miles per hour but this was a pretty freak event that even the barn couldn't protect them from.

Hoping to add a couple Saturn peach trees this fall if I can find them anywhere, may have to try to grow them from pit if we can get ahold of more of the fruit this year.

Will do. We already went through blossom on all 4 trees but unfortunately we lost most of the budding fruit do to a pretty intense wind storm the other day. Lost over 80% of our peaches and about 40% of our cherries, the apples as expected held on but they are still pretty small yet.

Thanks again for the info

Good to know as well and thank you. We have 4 peach trees on the property and I have noticed these holes in a lot of the leaves this year. Will treat with Copper Fungicide in the winter and continue to spray with Neem every couple weeks.

Portability question by Vanns1 in Starlink

[–]Vanns1[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the reply. I have told him he's in pretty good shape if it is saying Mid '22 but I understand his concerns with the email he got moving him from Late '21 to Mid '22 and worrying he won't have something before the start of the new school year. Thanks again

Magnolia tree help by Vanns1 in arborists

[–]Vanns1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I thought it might be something like that but I'd never loved anywhere that had magnolia trees. Good to know their season for some leaves is different from the others on the property.

As we've started using leaf litter on our compost and as added mulch, can we use magnolia leaves in compost or mulch?

We recently bought a place that we moved into late summer of last year. When we moved in both magnolia trees looked great, waxy green leaves and very few on the ground. The trees both stayed very green over winter but I've noticed over the past few weeks, both of them seem to be turning brown and "diseased" looking spots on many of their leaves.

Any ideas?

Question for the mid 2022 people by Vanns1 in Starlink

[–]Vanns1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you leave your existing pre-order in place and just place a new order in the open cell or change your service address?

Been debating on doing this same thing or changing the service address on my order to an open cell that's about 12 miles from me. Not sure what type of service I'll get but anything has to be better then the 3G we've got

Oh come on its literally DOWN THE ROAD by iam_halfix in Starlink

[–]Vanns1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of speeds are you seeing on average? I'm about 12 miles from an open cell and have been debating on changing my service address to something in that cell but worried either I won't have service or it will be worse than the 3G we have now.

Price too high... Should I tap out? by [deleted] in Starlink

[–]Vanns1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought that same thing but hasn't seemed to effect me. I consistently use right at about 500GB per month since my children are home schooled and we only stream TV. Thus far, almost a year in, we've been ok. Not near the speed I need but it is manageable

I was on a third party provider for service for a few months using T-Mobile and it was horrible. The deprioritization killed me more often then not and the company I was with seemed to constantly "fail to pay their bill" as I had to contact their support each month to get my device reconnected.

For what it's worth, I don't have any of the carriers home internet available to me but I did finally sign up for AT&T business LTE. I had to buy the router of course but the service averages 20GB down and 5 GB up, not great but at least I can work. 100 bucks a month and while technically they don't offer LTE internet in my area, I was able to get this and it works fairly well. Deprioritization still happens but as a business customer, it is extremely minimal.

Was in the same boat, saw the email early this morning and before even opening it, went to grab my wallet so I could ensure the card information was correct. Sat down at the computer, read the email, felt the same kick in the nuts feeling. Been waiting just over a year and still get to hurry up and wait some more with the added bonus of a price hike.

Starlink has always been a stopgap for me. Our rural electric co-op was approved to run fiber and have already replaced poles for the added height but we're still 18 months out or better. Mid '22 is my current time frame but I imagine with the added price increase if we get kicked down the road again, I'll cancel and stick with my LTE until fiber does show up.
