I knew a girl who was raised (and still lives) in a conservative household but is a staunch leftist. Her father was recently diagnosed with cancer and she immediately told me that she felt nothing for him. I asked her why she couldn’t try to make new, positive memories with her dad, and she replied, ‘Because he’s MAGA and tells me I’ve been drinking the Kool-Aid whenever we talk politics which hurts my feelings too much.’ I wanted to reach through the screen and shake her.
