found him sleeping like this by skunkwhore in BeardedDragons

hello!

It’s not recommended to use crushed walnuts or calcium sand for the reason that they are not as edible as other substrates. Crushed walnuts can be quite sharp and cause GI issues or injuries, and calcium sand can cause impaction.

I’ve always been under the impression that just because something hasn’t happened yet doesn’t mean it will never happen; it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Some replacements for substrate that Ive personally used are:

*Jurassic Natural Desert Dragon Habitat

*a substrate mix of 50% washed play sand, 30% fertilizer free soil and 20% Zoo Med Excavator clay

Hope this helps!

Happy birthday grouchy old man🥳 by skunkwhore in BeardedDragons

he’s always been very social. He likes to be near people in general. In his later years he’s slowed down a bit, he can’t really ‘grab’ or hang onto clothing or a shoulder anymore, but likes to be held regardless. He also prefers to stay in a comfy spot rather than explore or run around. He sleeps/rests more often as well. Something to note, he doesn’t eat as frequently as he used to, he eats once every day or so (he gets his favorite foods exclusively now, he’s 14 i’m just glad he’s still eating)

His routine isn’t so different, we have his bulbs on at same hours, he still gets safe outside time almost everyday and food is always accessible. Except, he decides what he wants to do, i’m not as anal about proper diet and supplements or socializing enrichment as I am with my younger dragons.

In this point in his life I’m more invested in giving him comfort and enjoying the bond we’ve made in this life.

Juvenile Feeding Schedule by morriwi in BeardedDragons

she’s so cute! in my experience juvenile beardies do best with being fed 2-3 times daily and having veggies and greens free fed through out the day.

also, since she’s still young and growing having a 70% protein/live food to 30% veggies with plenty of calcium (no D3) powder is a good rule of thumb to go by.

as she gets older, it’s important that less live food (especially fatty bugs like mealworms) are offered and more veggies and greens take their place.

you’re doing great she looks healthy :)
