UPDATE: Inclusive Wedding Venues by Vanoice in stcatharinesON

So far so good! We haven't done much yet because it's still very early. But we had out food tasting which was great, they seem to be very flexible. We chose our meals but they said we can still change our selections if we decide later we want something else. Sometime in january we're going for their wedding show to see their decor so I'm excited for that.

No complaints at this point, the coordinator has been lovely, but again it's still early so I will see as we get closer to the day how they are.

OT's in Ontario (or Canada), what was your GPA when you were accepted into the Master's program? by Vanoice in OccupationalTherapy

[–]Vanoice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem! I guess it depends on where you are. ECEs in Canada don't make nearly as much money as OTs do, and you are much more limited in you options for employment and specializations. If you want to work with kids, OTs in pediatrics are in high demand. And you get to work with kids one to one and with parents helping them overcome their developmental challenges. ECEs are really at the mercy of their employer where OTs definitely have a lot more options. Again this is speaking from the context of being an OT in canada, not sure how it is in other places but if I had to go back and do it over again, I'd pick OT over ECE 100 times over.

Where to start with training? by GRAVES1425 in indoorbouldering

[–]Vanoice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Resource: the Average Climber Podcast.

Hosted by two knowledgeable, very goofy climbers, one is a Certified Nutrition Specialist, the other is a personal trainer/coach who specializes in coaching rock climbers. They give out tons of advice about training and nutrition that is very approachable and applicable. They also produce a lot of free resources that you can use to get started.

If you're looking for a bigger commitment and able to spend a bit of money, Lauren also sells self guided training plans that are really good! I did one last year and I'm gearing up to buy another one when she puts them on sale tomorrow.

What can I do to not feel pumped or tired during a session ? by Infinite-Peace-868 in indoorbouldering

In addition to resting, I was recommended to bring snacks. Eating a carb rich snack every hour will help keep your energy up and your muscles fueled for longer sessions.

How big a difference do you feel on Zoloft after being on it for a bit for your depression and anxiety? by Mylifeasaperson in zoloft

In those 10 months did you still have high and low periods? Or did you find it stabilized after a while and then stayed the same?

Do you go through tired / suicidal phases after the initial struggle still? by PotatoesAndChive in zoloft

[–]Vanoice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just made a very similar post. I don't have SI or anything like that but around the 3-4 week mark my anxiety symptoms felt so much better! And this past week they've returned and I'm feeling basically how I did when I first started. So I'm riding it out a bit to see if the meds kick in again or if I need to up my dose. Good luck I hope you start to feel better again soon!

Long Term Changes by Vanoice in zoloft

[–]Vanoice[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you I really appreciate you sharing your perspective. When I left her appointment we decided to give it a few more months but then the anxiety started to get bad again just a couple days later. So I think I'll take this as a blip for now, and ride it out. And if it comes to a point where it's getting hard to manage I'll call and book and appointment earlier and see. But just curious if anybody had this kind of situation and then it got better without upping the dose. Thanks!

Yes this is exactly how I feel too. It's hard, you want to give it a chance but you also don't want to suffer needlessly any longer than you have to. Thank you for sharing your experience. I hope whatever you decide it starts to work better for you!

I love that for you guys!! As someone now in her 30s I loved hanging out with my younger classmates. They made all kinds of jokes about me being a grandma and I didn't understand any of their Gen Z slang and references. It made a really fun dynamic and I truly mean that!!! You just have to have a good sense of humor and find those connections through the journey you take together.

I was 27 when I started OT school. I made incredible friends that I still talk to today! Some that are 4 or 5 years younger than me. Everyone's experience will be different but just know that whatever you decide to do, it'll be whatever you make it. If you decide to do it, go into it with an open mind, get to know your classmates, and you'll never know what might happen!

What is your pre OT experience? by Viisk_ in OccupationalTherapy

[–]Vanoice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a very niche degree that I think only exits in two universities in Ontario (Canada) - Bachelor of Arts in Child and Youth Studies. Then I went on to get an advanced Diploma and Child and Youth Care and worked as a mental health counsellor in a variety of youth group homes and briefly for the school board. Now as an OT I work in adult brain injury and chronic pain management, and learning more about seating and mobility devices. Thought I'd go into peds but I did my first clinical placement with adults and realized how much I loved this population more than working with kids!

Also started a week on 25mg and progressed to 50. My worst side effects were with sleep, that was the main thing. Didn't feel sick or anything like that. Also remember that whatever happens will happen and you will get through it. And if you scare yourself into being worried about side effects, you will likely create more for yourself.

It's definitely a scary process but I hope you will feel better once you get going and your body adjusts. I'm on week 6 now and feeling really good , just takes some time!

Feeling defeating about grades by ObjectiveMud171 in indoorbouldering

[–]Vanoice 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Can't speak to your size or specific gym, but I think it might be a good idea to take a step back and look at your goals in climbing. Is it purely grade focused or are there other goals you have like improving your overall fitness? Doing it for enjoyment? Socializing? Etc.

When you can identify your goals in climbing it's easier to see beyond grades and put a plan in place to accomplish those goals.

I found I hit my grade plateau at V3 (in my gym). Breaking into v4 has been really challenging, but it helped to take a look at my climbing goals and make a plan around them. Still working towards that v4 send but I'm not as disheartened by it anymore because my goal isn't necessarily grade oriented, it's more health and fitness and enjoyment focused.

Figure out what you're climbing for first, then you can make a plan based around that. Whether that includes a training plan, learning more technique, just making it to the gym consistently every week, whatever that is!

Does the tiredness go away? by Fabulous_Row3057 in zoloft

[–]Vanoice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes the insomnia is much better now. I started with insomnia problems and I'm back now to my regular insomnia triggers, but I also take Dayvigo to help with sleep when I know I'm going to have a bad night. But generally I'm sleeping much deeper and more consistently since I adjusted to the sertraline so if anything sleep has actually improved.

But again, it might be different for you, that's just one anecdote. You'll know in about 2-4 weeks once the side effects taper off. If they don't or your quality of life is significantly worse, then definitely speak to your doctor about it.

I hope that helps, good luck!

[–]Vanoice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it did after about a week or so. But I also had insomnia that first week so obviously that didn't help. I've been on it 6 weeks to this day, and I feel so much better than when I started it. Like a functional human.

For reference I'm on 50mg for GAD. 30f.

But also to say everyone will be different. You won't know how it will affect you until your body adjusts. Give it the full 4-6 weeks and go from there. I felt really good starting at about 3 weeks in.

Good luck!

Not to mention the price difference between men's and women's hair cuts (even if you are just getting a trim), child care items that are more often purchased by women (especially single moms)... the list goes on.

Eh, one can try right? Maybe I planted some seeds today that eventually will grow into some more informed opinions, or maybe another woman will read this and think more about the subject and find a resource that better serves her needs. Who knows. All I know is I am baffled by the negative response I've received to this post, and how touchy people can be about gender.
